Welcome to my first ever Workshop Tour! I'll be leaving this workshop soon, and as I've been working in it for four years now it's time to show you around my workspace. It's a small UK woodworking workshop (4.1m x 2.7m internally) but with some big-ish machines like the DeWalt DW745 table saw, Axminster White Mitre Saw, Charnwood B350 Bandsaw and Elektra Beckum HC260 planer thicknesser and more. A tour of my workshop extension and garage will follow this video. #workshop #workshoptour #woodworking

I work (hobby) in 1/4th of a loft next to my bedroom of which the workbench takes up half of the space (yes we have a workbench in the loft :D, its about 1x2.7 m i'd say) and it works just fine for hand tool woodworking but I obviously cant use machinery since it just won't fit in the space I wish you the best of luck in your new workspace!

Really interesting to see the workshop Keith. I'm about to move into a converted container workshop which is probably roughly the same size (160sqft) so great to see a few of your canny storage ideas. On the dust ask front, I recently switched to the trend air stealth. It has the 2 straps that you like and I've found it pretty effective, though still getting used to it after moving over from then gvs mask.

I know how you can become complacent with staying tidy in your shop, but I must say scheduling time into your workday to clean up is the key. Oh, there are still plenty of times where I have worked straight thru dinner into the night and I am too tired to do anything more. I will do it the next morning though. keeping a clean work environment and a well-organized space will help you work more easily, calmer and relaxed. No stepping over things or trying to find a clear space to work on. There is no reason one can't keep a clean and tidy work space even if you do it weekly. It is amazing after you have cleaned how many items you'll find that you thought were lost, lol.

Hey Dude love the shop I started out with a 8x 6 shed on a bit of grass in a communal cark park and have been lucky enough to upgrade to a 1 car garage. I have a really unhealthy addiction to salvaging any materials I find and I am a plumber/ multi skilled tradesmen so I see alot. You know " oh that's oak I'll take that " So now my 8x 6 shed is a reclaimed materials storage.I just spent the whole day yesterday pulling it all out and being ruthless and pretty much 3/4 of it is fire wood. I mean I could something with it 1 day but to be honest I dont get as much time as I would like to devote to my passion of making and seem to spend half that time trying to find places to store all my reclaimed " crap" I might 1 day get too. Sooooo guy and girls be more choosy some in some out give yourself space ie I want a lathe but the space I would put it is currently occupied by plywood off cuts and time give yourself time ie you've finally found a use for the live edge off cut you got 3 years ago but you have buried it under some disassemble kitchen units you thought would be great for making jigs from. Yes I really am that bad if your in Sussex and want to make a bon fire let me know 😣👍😂 But Any way Dude if you need A good face mask take a look at rzmask.com/?afmc=7e honestly I am a tradesmen with a beard and these do the job you can wear the mask goggles and hearing protection and take them all off individually. 1 velcro strap gives a good seal even over a beard with cheap replacement filters. Also loads of colours to choose from and grades of protection. I been grinding and chasing out a solid concrete floor in a small understairs WC no ventilation as I have had to keep the door shut to prevent the dust and the only clean part of me is where the RZ mask has been. Its 👍👍👍PPE

Like many people I’ve tried numerous masks from the cheap to the pricey, from basic to fancy and after all of it I always come back to the 3M maintenance free mask. The RZ squashes my nose, the Raptor gets in my eye line etc etc and the 3M is the least annoying of all of them. Yes it’s a disposable but it’s good for a lot of hours of use and if you aren’t wearing it for 8 hours a day every day then I reckon you get 3-6 months use from it.

Nice tour. Question for you. Given that you have a compressor, why didn't you buy an air-operated sprayer instead of an electric sprayer?
@RagnBoneBrown
@RagnBoneBrown 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I was given the electric sprayer by Teccpo. I do have an air spray gun (cheap one, was supplied with my old compressor) but haven’t used it yet as the plan was originally to get rid of the compressor. But now I think I’ll probably keep it.
@mikedeman5351
@mikedeman5351 5 жыл бұрын
If I may ask another question :) If you were going out to buy a brad nailer and a sprayer today, would you go for two electric tools or air tools with a compressor?
@RagnBoneBrown
@RagnBoneBrown 5 жыл бұрын
@@mikedeman5351 it would depend on a) how much money I had, b) how much space I had and c) how bothered I was about weight. I prefer cordless electric tools because you're not tethered to a hose and no need to drag a compressor to wherever you want to use it, but the downside is that they are heavier and more expensive than air tools
@mikedeman5351
@mikedeman5351 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your insight into this. I am on the verge of buying a sprayer and a brad nailer. I think I am going to go with air tools. I will never use the sprayer or nailer outside my shed so I don't mind a hose as long as it is flexible. It seems I can get a small compressor, a basic gravity sprayer and a brad-nailer for about £200, whereas a battery- or gas-operated nailer will cost a lot more. My shed is small but my budget is smaller still :)

Apart from some minor details you have your shop very well organized. Chapeau! My shop is about 20 m2 but when I want to do something (new) I have to move things from one side to the other. I'm trying to move anything out of my shop which has nothing to do with woodworking. But that is a long term project. I need to make place for those things elsewhere. I hate throwing things away. Do you have a video how you take pallets apart with the special tool for it you showed in this video? Thanks for sharing the video. It gave me some new ideas how to store some things.

I really like my 3M 650xQL dust mask (x is either 1, 2 or 3, depending on size). Filters are a bit pricey, but they last forever and do a really great job.

Great video! It’s nice to see the few UK you tubers as they have limited space, comparable to that of most Uk homes. It’s great to see you do well, but the down side from my point of view is that you as a result acquire more & more tools & move to bigger work shops therefore the projects you do become less relevant to projects that I can try or get inspiration from. I’ve always found it frustrating when using KZfaq for inspiration for a project or to see how to do something the videos that you find use half a dozen tools that you don’t have. That is one of the thing that was great about your earlier videos is that your tool collection then was very much comparable to mine. All that said I still enjoy your channel, & keep up the good work, but you you please chuck in the odd video made with fewer tools from time to time.

I have to earn a living 🤷‍♂️ besides if I kept making the same content for the next 5 years would you not be bored of it? I’d certainly be bored of making the same video over and over again. Jimmy Diresta has progressed in to using some tools and doing projects that I have no interest in, but he is still one of my biggest influences. I just don’t watch the videos that don’t interest me. I wouldn’t dream of telling him to go back to his basement NYC workshop and only make woodworking projects. He’s following his own path, as we all are.

Also it’s important when you see someone making something with a tool that you don’t have to think “how could I do that with what I have?”. There’s always a way. It may take longer, it might not work as well, but there’s always a way

Rag 'n' Bone Brown I hope you don’t think it was a criticism, more an observation on the way in which things go. And I realise that you are not making things for the videos alone, you are making them to sell so you wouldn’t sacrifice quality and efficiently for the sake of the video.

End of an era for you both, I hope the person who buys your house gives you an extra few grand for your famous workshop! I'm sure you'll get this a lot, but the thumbnail linking to your Patreon-only video of how you built your yellow shorts doesn't seem to be working ;)
