ughhhh yessss about femme queer representation! I feel like growing up I did not see any super feminine lesbians, so I kind of just assumed I wasn’t queer because I didn’t fit the mold of lesbians I saw in media. I identify as straight, have never had a physical relationship with a woman, never attracted to women AT ALL - but when I was 30 years old I met this girl who I was sooooo attracted to. Her personality, her vibe, her everything. If she had made a move on me, I totally would’ve dated her. It was very confusing to me at the time. 15 years later and I’m still thinking of her to this day ❤You’re not alone!! Congrats on your wonderful girlfriend :)

I relate so hard to this. Both my gf and I are super feminine and she was in a sorority (we just graduated). Everything is perfect within our lives objectively, but when I think about little stereotypic intricacies like weddings, date events, etc… it gets overwhelming. Knowing that she’s worth it is so amazing and being wlw is truly a blessing and wonderful life to live, even with the little doubts. You’re doing a huge HUGE service to girls like me by coming out like this. It’s so so amazing to see “cool girls” be openly gay, it makes me feel sm more normal. My gf and I are sending love and we’re so happy for you and Shannon :))

First off i dont know you very well. As a 41 year old male who just came out out june 1st 2023 i understand the nerves you have. I grew up trying to be who everyone else wanted me to be. I tried being the normal guy who loved only girls but i never was in a serious relationship. As a teenager some things happened that looking back on now were experiences that helped me become the person i am today. However i ignored some signs for over 20 years. Finally in 2022 i realized i was attracted to both males and females. I was so scared the first few months after i got honest with myself about it. Over time i realized that if i came out i would lose friends and probably family members as well. I also knew that if i wanted to be able to live my life and love who i wanted to love i had to come out even it meant losing friends and family. Finally on june 1st 2023 i told everyone in a facebook post i was bisexual. Most people were positive like you said they were towards you. Do i still get looks and all whenever i am out in public and wearing my pride clothing or accessories; yes i do but at the end of the day i am confident free and able to be my trueself. I hope you continue to live your life for yourself and love who you want to love. HAPPY PRIDE to you.

I recently led a ceremony in a celebration of life/memorial for a friend that passed away. When I finished speaking, I was chatting with a friend & said, “I couldn’t help choking up, the tears just came & my throat closed up, there was nothing I could do about it”; my friend responded by saying, “it is expected- eulogies are not often spoken without tears & cracks in the speakers voice”. You are being vulnerable & sharing your experience in navigating something new & life-changing (even being the same person you’ve always been, it’s still a significant experience that has a beautiful impact on your life)- as well as talking about your relationship with someone you’re obviously very in love with. So, in the words of my friend (basically), it is expected- you’re coming out/“announcing” your romantic relationship, acknowledging & accepting parts of yourself & sharing it with your followers, you’re stepping into authenticity, & you are allowing yourself to blossom. It makes sense that emotions are coming up & it’s difficult to express everything in a way that feels secure. All this to say: I see you & I’m proud of you, & it’s okay to be emotional. 💗 I’ve known that I was bi for quite awhile now & I still discover new things about myself/my sexuality to this day. We have each other- the queer community. We can be emotional & complex, & that’s okay.

I feel so seen in this video. Thank you for being so vulnerable. As someone who is openly bisexual but have only dated men I never felt like I was part of the community. You’re always scared to say the wrong thing because you feel like you’re not qualified. It’s so valid. I am so so over the moon for you ❤

First of all, congratulations on coming out! The soft and hard launch was absolutely adorable. It was great to see you being so candid and vulnerable about your feelings (the happiness and the confusion). You are becoming the represtation to others that you needed. That is something to be really proud of. As a lesbian that didn't come out until 28 (while married to a man) and in a small southern town, it can be scary. But you're doing great and you will be ok, I promise. ❤ Those who truly love you will be happy for you and will continue to stand by your side. And remember that you never have to put yourself in a box or label yourself at all. Just be you. Be happy and enjoy life. You will be ok. Welcome to the family! 🌈

Becca we love you much!!! Also you have not changes ONE bit, this cute little love story is nearly identical to those you've said about guys, just with a girl instead. You seem so happy talking abt Shannon it's so so so adorable 😭😭❤️❤️ We wish you love and support on this new chapter!!! tbh this is so beautiful, especially considering you're both pretty feminine and you're what most people would consider "a normal girl" it's breaking stereotypes and literally showing that people can just like other people without needing to "change" who they are ❤️

You have great taste bc Shannon is one of the most remarkable humans out there. I loved hearing your story of meeting and thank you for being so vulnerable with us. Have followed you for about 2 years and Shannon for over 10 and you both are so deserving of a healthy love like this. It’s been a long time coming so congrats. It gets easier too so please don’t stress and enjoy the ride. Just take care of and protect each other first over anything else

One of the biggest misconceptions about coming out or dating the same gender or whatever different from the “norm” or what society tells us is, that we are different people and that’s the farthest from the truth. We are exactly the same people. Who we love makes no difference to who we are at the core. You’ll be okay and Shannon is great

I'm so happy for you! This sounds so similar to my experience, except I didn't realize by getting a crush it just was a long journey of slowly unpacking my sexuality and trusting myself. I always felt confused about whether I was queer because growing up I never had any experiences with girls or had a crush on any, which all of my queer friends did experience. Then I finally realized in my early twenties (after questioning my sexuality for years), and now I'm pretty secure with my identity!

You care too much about the people whose opinions won't matter. If someone is a homophobe or hater, or unsupportive, it doesn't matter. Let them gossip, just be in your little love bubble and keep doing you.

Even though I'm very jealous that you found out you were gay by falling in love with a woman and getting to date her rather than heartbreak and spending five years on the apps 😂, I am very very thrilled for you. Shannon is the salt of the Earth and it sounds like y'all are in a very sweet supportive and healthy relationship! Wishing you all the best with your podcast.

@@1985cactus I thought I already replied to this but it's not appearing so, yes you're correct, I meant to say queer not gay. Although you never know, for me it was a journey to discover I was a lesbian. Comphet is a biiiiitch!

i totally understand the heaviness after the initial happiness and relief of coming out. i knew i was gay at 12 and didn't come out until 20. i was fine with it and was ready to tell my family. i thought it was gonna feel great but mostly i just felt exposed and like they saw me differently (even though they didn't). it took some months but i got to a place where i was soooo much happier that they knew because in the end it was heavier when i was the only one holding onto it

okay but your advice is v accurate. all you have to do is make vaguely prolonged eye contact with a man for them to think you’re interested in them

I was literally gonna say the same thing bahaha. That is the easiest way to let someone know you’re interested in them lmao - lingering eye contact with a playful/flirty smirk or smile

Truth is, you feel naked for a while once you come out. I’m glad you’re not putting yourself in a box - it has taken us a lifetime to figure this out. Sometimes it’s just the one girl, might be more than one girl. It’s okay.

I have exposure to very few female queer influences online, and I can’t describe how impactful it is to get to follow you and hear your stories, as a queer woman who finds it hard to express herself or see representation. Thank you for sharing 🤍🤍🤍

ik you’re early on in your journey but i would also consider the intersectionality of it all! during your representation part i saw that you mentioned wanting more shows and people like chappell and rene, but there have been tons and tons of out, queer POC people for years now that they’ve taken inspiration from! For example, Kehlani, Victoria Monet, Syd, Orion Sun, and so so many more even megan thee stallion! intersectionality is so important in delving deeper and knowing your history as a girl who likes other girls!
