I love watching your videos. You're helping me revamp my business. I definitely think I will be discontinuing my sprays & car diffusers. I might bring them back in the future. They do not sell like that. And to think I was about to pay for a brand ambassador to help me change up some things in my business. All I had to do is sit still & binge watch you. Erica don't feel bad for not wanting to do something. Yes it's important to have customers but if it means your unhappy what's the point of doing it. Your misery will show through your products if your not happy. Besides it opens things up to trying new scents or new lines. Sky is the limit. You Got This!!!!

This is exactly where my mind has been over the past month. I don't make candles but I love to watch your videos because they cover a scope of business topics that are relatable regardless of the industry. I make bodycare and recently I have been really taking a look at my business and seeing what works and what doesn't. I have products and scents that just don't sell, but have kept because some customers enjoy them. I have been in the process of renaming some of my original scents, updating others, and planning out how and when to discontinue the rest. I had to realize that I can make changes and that I am not locked to what I started with. I am being more strategic with my business and what I offer and in order to do that I have to let go of what just isn't working for me and my business. Good luck on your journey!

Oh and I almost forgot, don’t be afraid to rename scents based on the time of year. If you only sell 10 of a scent per month then when making a new batch during a different season rename it and have the old scent name out of stock and if it sells better under a new name then you’ve struck gold

I am right in the middle of this atm so I'm so happy to see this video from you, I think this side of business gets overlooked but in some ways reinventing or refreshing the biz is kinda necessary from time t time to stay fresh, relevant and also just as the biz owners to recentre and make sure we're doing what we love and going in the right direction, for us.

It's cool to hear some of the technical challenges of a fragrance business! Have you considered switching to a higher melting point wax for your wax melt sampler? That may help lessen melting during shipping.

i love doing the sprays , because I love fragrance. I am a crafter and soaper who recently started making candles. I just love creating when ideas pop up. I prefer to have a variety since I am starting and fragrance can be expensive.

Hi Erica.....I am doing candles for 20years.....and I know the feeling of I do not like to make that 1 specific candle....But yes.....we grow and so do our businesses also grow.....And maybe the season of that 1 product is not now....but maybe later .......I am trying to keep my business as simple and easy as possible. But yes.....we must enjoy what we are doing.....😁👌Thanks for your advice and chats....LOVE it👌😁🌼🌼🌼

Thanks for sharing! I have candles that I’m rethinking as well. Some have never gotten a single sale despite the fact that I enjoy those candles scents and like making them. Maybe I’m just not posting about them enough.

This is SO relatable. I really hate making room sprays, but I thought that offering more than just candles and melts would be a good idea, but these just don't sell well at all for me either.

Yea I honestly do not like having a ton of scents. I have 6 year round scents and then each season release a collection with 3-5 scents and only restock it once. I love doing it this way

I make intention candles, so they are topped with crystals & floral. (Don’t worry, i instruct the customers to remove floral and crystals before lighting the candle). A lot of my customers tell me that the candles are too pretty to burn so that’s why I started making room sprays and wax melts. I market the room sprays as aura sprays to enhance or shift the energy in the room. They do pretty well, but I haven’t figured out a mixture that I like since I use clear bottles, I need to add alcohol or something to it so it’s not so foggy. You actually taught me how to make room sprays 💜

I have a friend Ross that makes little .5oz samples of new scents as freebies. They’ll make a new scent every month but always make just enough for the month and once they run out it’s gone. Now, if they really like it they might make it a regular scent

Love your channel and tips. I am still learning but have question, when you have figured out your jar and wick,wax, branding etc, and want to add new scents do you test each scent as it gets added?

Adding beeswax to your sample pack may keep them from melting while in transit. Also, beeswax releases negative ions, which could be an additional selling feature for your melts.

It is true that since there was a poor Instagram marketing strategy applied on that spray, the conclusion that it is not selling may be a little bit arbitrary. I mean you haven't tried your best to see what happens under perfect conditions. However, since you identified that some of your products lack that "Erica element", it was a wise decision to discontinue them. You need to be both practical (follow the needs of the market) and cost-efficient (invest more money on candles which pay you most). To sum up, I believe that your dedication to candles will soon make you reap the benefits of deciding to specialize more on them. It is time to shake up the customers with some new scents! I really enjoy your content and always appreciate your tips and ideas! Greetings from Greece!

I make a beautiful botanical room spray..it’s not only beautiful, but is all natural base and no oils..mine sell pretty well at vending events..I limited my scents to 4 ..cool, clean, zest and Lavender..

If you are looking to change out your sampler packaging, can I recommend "24 CAVITY WAX MELT CLAMSHELL?" South FL candle supply has a decent preview image to show what I mean. 6 different scents with each using 4 cubes for about 5 oz of wax.

I participate in a lot of weekend markets and room sprays are the slowest mover for me. I can go several markets without selling one, or I don’t have the fragrance they want but then I’ll do a market and sell several 🤷‍♀️

Gosh markets are so hit and miss with everything. One market I will sell a ton of one scent, at another market I wont sell any of that same scent. It's so all over the place haha. But I agree, most of the time I will sell 1-2 room sprays per market, if that

I found that my small travel candles sell best at markets, meanwhile no one wants to buy them online. I also hate packing and shipping them because it takes more time than regular candles so that’s a factor.

@@alyssatucker4244 I sell both my 6 and 12oz candles at the markets I go to, both do well and I know if I went to one size people would ask for the size I didn’t have. I try to have a mix of price levels to hit a bigger target audience.

I made that best sellers video a long time ago when I still had my Etsy shop! For some reason when I switched to my own website it did not do as well at all. However this could also be due to me not talking about it/bringing it to markets because I just very much dislike the scent 😅

Having a tracking sheet helps me. With keeping track. Example: TFC Harvest spice= Cinnamon Spice CS Cappuccino Espresso= Coffee Shop NG Scent= My candle Or vice versa, etc. Couldn't agree more. With doing what you love and ruling out the others. I hit a slump when I ran into inventory issues and it was hard to get moving again/ being motivated. Magically, I then, get asked about an order. Like just this morning an order for 8 candles, the other night was 4 candles and so on. That's what gets me going. Anyway, I did make a video... Two videos and we'll, honestly, they were aweful, just reviewing it and out of embarrassment, I scratched them from the channel and need to just re- introduce myself/ channel in a different way that makes me excited to do it. I was so bummed at myself for it that I played a video game (rare and it was FFX) for an entire day. My wife and kiddo just let me relax for a change and honestly, it was nice. It also gave me ideas for products and I've been thinking about handbags lately.. but more.in the fantasy sense. Other merchandise as well. Okay, now that I've messaged another dictionary, I'm going to bed. I have candles to sell in a few hours. 🙂

I feel like I misspoke when I said I couldn't keep track lol. I use Inventora so I'm able to keep everything organized and tracked, I guess I just meant that It costs more money and more supplies to keep larger amounts of scents in stock 😅 I'm so glad to hear that you're getting motivated again! And I can promise you that everyone's first YT videos are NOT great 😅 But it's nice to look back on those first few videos years down the line!

I'm finding it more important to take a step back now and then. It's really helping with my imagination. I've even gotten back into sketching as well as trying my hand at watercolor painting. It's helping a TON. That, and some Spotify music/ lofi videogame music channels. I'm trying to get a routine down and hopefully begin stream lining in the wholesale dept., I'm seriously slacking there lately (I admit ☹️). 😅😅😅😅 I truly do appreciate the encouragement. Idk if you saw them, but I thought they were really just not good at all and not the kind of content style I really want to go for, I just kinda posted for the sake of doing so, because I said it's what I was going to do and I was in a (I'm taking accountability for what I said!) Scenario.. I'll make up for it in the future; yet I'm learning my limits and really want to post good content because I like to, not because I need to, to make better quality things to share.
