I ditched the corporate scene over 30 years ago. I've recovered from an 18-year-old debilitating illness. And I started my KZfaq channel 2 years ago so that I can pay off my credit card debt and just feel useful. I wanted to promote my Etsy shops and incorporate DIY and at the same time. So I really need help in learning how to attract my target audience to my Etsy shop items and at the same time do the things that I love which is the DIY.

Yes, yes, yes!!! This makes YouTubing so much more interesting and FUN. We don’t live in a category so it’s nuts to ONLY focus on a narrow band of what we know or want to share. But being able to reach the people like us striving for the same things totally makes sense. Thank you!! 💯🙌🏼

Yes!! This was so refreshing to watch! Following what I’m really excited about feels so much more natural and fun, and actually makes me WANT to do work every day! And I think that matters more than forcing ourselves to do what we’re “supposed to” do in order to niche, because it makes me actually do more for my business!

Thank you!! That's one thing that's always bugged me about the "riches are in the niches" (reeshes are in the neeshes?) people. It feels so stifling. Focusing on the audience rather than a topic feels much more natural.
@thentheresjeff
@thentheresjeff Жыл бұрын
Hey, Jessica! Love the “deesh the neesh” joke. Your advice here is going to free so many people from the “niche boxes” that KZfaq’s many gurus have put them in. I’ve been programming radio stations for 30 years and the one thing I know with absolute certainty is that people don’t develop relationships with stations (or niches), they develop relationships with other people. Stations that promote “the station” almost never make it to number 1. Stations that promote their personalities and help THEM build relationships with THEIR listeners do extremely well, both in the ratings and financially. Your strategy - to identify your target audience and super-serve them - works regardless of the medium or the message. Care about your people and they will care about what you have to say. I’d end with “good luck,” but you’re not going to need it so, congratulations on the even bigger successes to come. I’m looking forward to your future content!

FIRST OF ALL..... This video deserves tons of likes (: I think I saw it at the right time... Secondly I agree, let's really break this down in examples: I've binge-watched youtube channels that are specifically about video editing for example but I've realized that the only times I really come back to that channel is specifically when I'm stuck on the subject of video editing. They don't offer an entire career inventory of subjects and resources that help my overall career as a business owner and digital marketer, they're just REALLY GOOD editors. So I'd have to say this video hits the mark really well.

I watch and enjoy your videos because I'm inspired by your confidence, and I really like to listen to you talk about real-time changes and growth! I have my own unique journey of finding the courage to walk away from traditional employment against all odds and societal pressure, and finally realizing that it's okay to pursue an alternative path. I've shared both the highs and lows of my experience in real-time on social media with my audience, but after two and a half years of freeing myself from traditional employment and attempting to do my own thing, I'm in a place where I have zero financial stability and am struggling to survive. Returning to a "real job" isn't an option for me at this point, but I feel like I can't continue to keep up a facade about my lifestyle or inspire others to follow their passions/dreams when I myself am not living the perceived "dream life" on the other side. On the topic of niches, I've successfully pigeonholed myself into the dog & pet-care niche for about 5 years now after creating a brand about being a dog mom to three senior pugs. I am bored to deaaaaath of not only sharing about the pugs, but I am so extremely apathetic engaging with comments and messages with other "pug people" about the breed. I was inspired once upon a time when I created my business and brand, and wanted nothing more than to grow a community around this one specific commonality, but over the years I have experienced such huge, massive growth as a person that my values and interests have shifted completely away from this thing I created and built up. While I know a big portion of my audience is interested in me and my life, most of them only care about my dogs which makes me feel so uncomfortable with pivoting into more of a lifestyle situation. It's a conundrum. I rarely leave comments on anything online but thank you for your authenticity!

Love the channel and the content! I'm here for "all the things" that can help me grow my digital product business. I owned a custom cake shop for 10 years and it was great but I worked 24/7 365 nearly that entire time. I was burned out, so we decided to close down in 2018. Since then, I have struggled to find a place in the 9 to 5 world. My experience seems irrelevant to hiring companies. No one wants to hire a Baker with a Fine Arts and Communications degree.

Jessica - Thank you for the content you produce. This issue of niches is a puzzler for many of us. I agree with your analysis. What I hear you say is more about broadening the SCOPE of your niche, providing more value to your community. I totally agree that many channels do this. I would add only one caveat. If your scope is REALLY broad (as in your farming/tech) example, I feel that there comes a point where one has to consider multiple channels. I realize that you were just making a point, but I see numerous creators with several channels. I think you are spot on in focusing on your audience. That is Communication 101. Thank you again for your engaging content.

I've seen several videos describe a niche vs. a target audience, but this was explained very clearly and I understand it in a new way. This video confirms that I don't want to be an "information vessel" and having a variety of video styles can be very helpful as long as it relates to the area/challenges my target audience is facing. Thank you!

The trouble with everything these days is everyone forgets to just be themselves, to be unique to who they are. I watch a lady who has an Etsy shop (even though I don't have one), and she is a total different niche to what I am aiming at and also have a business website for. But I absolutely love her uniqueness, her quirkiness, her honesty, and she actually has some really good content. I watch you for some different reasons Jessica. Brilliant video, Jessica! I've been struggling to articulate this idea myself. I recently pivoted form the "personal finance" niche, to the "online business niche", BUT there's SO much I didn't want to leave behind (like my wildly engaging anti-Dave Ramsey rants). This REALLY helps me put it into a better framework, Thanks for that!

I loved this video. Just an FYI, years ago I used to watch some of your videos from time to time, but only when I needed to learn something. Then earlier this year, I watched another one of your videos, but you were being way more personable. I realized that I could actually relate to you as a person and I started watching your videos all the time. This is a great transition for your channel. Thanks for posting this.

I've never been a fan of niche-ing down. However, I feel it can make your channel grow quicker. I'm gonna take your advice on being more conversational with my titles, as my video style is similar to yours, and I believe it'll help. Thanks for inspiring us smaller creators :)
