I tried to spend as much as I could with Delta Air Lines to achieve the highest level of status which I have had for years but with the changes Delta has made, it's not possible.

Peter, I love your videos. I have been flying forever but since I’ve been watching your channel, I see things I haven’t seen or thought about before, eg, why the pilot made a certain turn, etc. there’s nothing like learning something new, thanks

Excellent points. I don't fly as much as you do but I get what you're saying. I fly primarily Delta or United. Delta is top notch. I plan trips to LGA, MSP, and LAX in 2024, hopefully all on Delta. Like you, I insist on a window seat and nothing else.

Delta has been my Primary airline and I have been platinum or many years and Diamond last year. Because i heard that this year was going got be way out on my spending I started flying more SW Direct flights when possible. Then Delta changed it back but i had not flown them as much. Its a nice airline but I wont be working for them to make status as I'm sure many will not. Those clubs will be empty and soon close which i think is what they want. Atanta has been like a second home for me. But I find I can deal with skipping the connection and making it a less than 4 plus hour travel day and fly SW if Direct is refreshing.

I have flown with each of the “Big 3” over the years, and though it’s been mostly Delta, I’ve had good enough experiences simply searching for the least expensive airfare (though I will not fly United’s basic economy as they do not allow for carry-on bags other than the “personal item”). Since most of my flying is from Pittsburgh to NYC, I stick mainly to AA and Delta, since United only flies to EWR from Pittsburgh and EWR is too out of the way to be worth the lower airfare.

Delta has always been the pioneer in taking away perks and benefits. They invented the concept of earning miles based on dollars spent vs. miles flown. This is why I hate them. Unfortunately, once they lower the bar another notch, AA and United generally follow. It was no surprise when former Delta CEO Richard Anderson, who went on to become the CEO of Amtrak, made the decision right after taking over to cut hot meals on long distance trains! Mind you, these are not three or four hour trips, these are trips that could take days! I think there was enough of a backlash that he had to re-think this boneheaded move.

You “ain’t” getting SH*# as a Platinum! I’ve been Platinum for almost 18 years and I haven’t had ONE upgrade as Atlanta based! Always #1,2, or 3. DELTA needs to STOP the Companion +1 Upgrades!!!!!!! Also, if your business pays for your flight you should get 10% credit. I’m like you, all out of pocket spend with no reimbursement
@dberke7115 ай бұрын
I can guarantee you that even if they stop the companion upgrades, you're not going to get upgraded as platinum out of ATL. I suspect the largest concentration of diamonds fly out of ATL.
@alyonapetrova6945 ай бұрын
@@dberke711 I agree, but when I fly out of Vegas or Anchorage, I’m ALWAYS loosing to the +1, however, it’ll help some others. I have a problem with a silver, gold, or basic Skymiles getting that business class seat because their significant other’s company pays for their flights. I suggest that Delta starts doing what Singapore does and have a bidding war, because allot of those business travels are not going to pay that “marginal cost”, whereas, I would
@dberke7115 ай бұрын
@@alyonapetrova694 When I was last platinum (2019), I was upgraded to first 73% of the time. Do you have things like the Delta Reserve Amex to help your position in line? If not, maybe that's part of your problem.
@alyonapetrova6945 ай бұрын
I just got my end of year review from Delta. I flew 191 segments and NO complimentary upgrades to Business Class. I can assure you, I’ve been beaten by a +1!
@dberke7115 ай бұрын
Haven't you already qualified for diamond in 2024 under the current rules? If so, your diamond status will last until 2025. If you only are platinum, you'll be able to extend for just two years - Don't forget that your MQM balance will deduct 75k miles for 2024 platinum status, leaving you just 225k MQMs, so you would only be able to "buy" two additional years of platinum at 100k/year.
@PeterMasella5 ай бұрын
No, In the video I talk about how I can only make it to Platinum in 2024 since the Diamond spending threshold was increased to $20,000. Interesting point about the 75K deduction.

Hmm, I should get started on my video about reaching SkyTeam status quickly and easily :) In comparing the 3 alliances from a US flyer perspective, SkyTeam Elite Plus (non-SkyMiles) members only get lounge access when flying same-day to an international destination (i.e. not necessarily from the departure lounge location) on Delta or a SkyTeam partner, whereas oneworld and Star Alliance upper elites (non-Mileage Plan/AAdvantage/MileagePlus) can access lounges even on domestic coach flights with Alaska, American and United, so by extension also with Horizon, American Eagle and United Express. As a oneworld Sapphire, I have access to the much more elevated Flagship Lounge at either O'Hare or DFW while waiting to board my 1.5 hr flight home to Omaha. Which brings me to another point, Delta doesn't have an elevated lounge brand in the same way American and United do (Flagship and Polaris). Generally, I'm not loyal to any airline; I fly them all and it's possible to be elite in more than 1. - Red

Delta should just call it SkyDollars at this point. Delta is my favorite airline because of their customer service and their hard product but I don't even get close to flying enough for this to matter to me. But Delta is definitely doing this strictly in an attempt to make more money not to increase their customer loyalty.
