Hey guys, thanks for stopping by as always. I know this video isn’t typical of my channel, and I know I'm not much of a video editor or script writer. But I felt I had to find a way to articulate how I’ve felt about Halo lately. Let me know in the comments if you agree or disagree with anything I have to say. I don’t want to spoil anything in the video, so I’ll chat with you guys below. I’ll be replying to every comment as long as I can. I dont know who this dude is who made this video, but as soon as you mention Johnny walker i know youre a classy man. I can agree with most said here, however halo infinite has really good gameplay, however it is far from infinite. The lack of weapon/vehicle variety, gamemodes, forge, theatre being broken, and so on at launch, but a fully functional store, showed the priorities if the higher ups at 343. Halo infinite will eventually years down the line be a great game, though only because of mod support. Sucks how people have to fix games on behalf of devs for most times free because the higher ups force the devs hand to prioritize awful ideas over ones that make the game worth playing.

the situation is quite simple, in the past many companies did not have a salary guarantee so they were forced to raise the level of creativity to the maximum. The competition was real, unlike today where basically everything is big corporatism. These days, companies are basically heirs to the legacies and money of brands that started from scratch. Many responsible men were also excluded from new projects. Martin O Donnel is my favorite musician and without him there is a clear difference in the ambience of the game

The sense of community you got in Halo Reach was something no FPS has come close to since. The ease of looking at other players stats and how it linked together across all game modes and to Halo 3. The progression also made you actually want to earn things. Even going back to other games around that time like Black ops 2 and Gears of war 3, all of them in terms of social features and stats and rewards all peaked around that time. Look at modern COD. It doesn't even keep you in the same lobby with the people you just played with.

Thanks for the comment H3 legend. It’s a shame MCC launched completely broken and didn’t get fixed for four years. That was 343’s chance to at least cater to loyal fans of the original Halo games, but on top of fumbling their own games they somehow managed to screw up the original games too. Just goes to show that nothing will hit the same high as those 360 days. I appreciate you giving your perspective my man, it’s been a pleasure playing with and against you all these years. @@blamcheese It definitely was ahead of it’s time. You can easily drop it today and it would do bigger numbers now. Halo 3 in its peak was on ESPN..the issue with FPS/3rd today is the lack of originality, everything is very similar or battle royale and micro transaction oriented. PUBG, H1Z1, Fortnite, Warzone, Apex..I’m sure I missed a few but those are some of the most popular. Infinite lacks a battle royale which sets it apart but the gameplay along with the ranking and progression system needs a lot of work. If that’s what sells right now, why not drop a battle royale mode for Infinite.

I just can’t get immersed into multiplayer like I could in older Halo games. Theres jack shit for us casuals to enjoy especially those of us who just like to do role plays (Yes I did those with friends on MCC many times, most of the time via split screen.) where we mostly used forge, Our SPARTANs and with me, in any game that lets it, my elites were more then in game avatars, they were meant to be us in Halo, us as an ODST, a SPARTAN, Military Police, Marine, even Elites. Said roleplaying on Halo even encouraged me to actually try to make decent maps and was my only reason to ever play Halo 5, it encouraged me to actually try to play instead of getting distracted by EVERYTHING else like I do in most multiplayer games. Alot of people say Customization doesn’t matter at all, but it does to a few of us. For example in Reach I tried to make a realistic ODST firefight that even has a versus mode, ODSTs in it have various classes with its own perks, sniper gets a sniper and AR but no grenades and only sprint, Demolitions was heavy weapons grenade launcher, Rocket Launcher, and 4 grenades, ETC there was even a Medic Class with shotgun, pistol and drop shield, meaning you could heal teammates while essentially having a “Fuck off and learn personal space tool!” For any covenant that get too close and enter the bubble of healing. Your an ODST, so your slower then you are in the campaign and most Halo Games, your jump heights also lower, making Sprint a valid option for getting around faster, your also not some super soldier who punches with the force of a Semi truck going at Mach 12, melee fighting hunters isn’t a good idea, in most cases you’ll die. In fact I believe your melee damage is low enough that unless it’s an assassination it takes two hits to kill a Grunt. You also have no shields, however a slightly higher damage resistance then normal, other wise you’d die many times over. For the Versus mode stats for humans remain unchanged Elite Loadouts were made to counter most human Load-outs, the Elite sniper having a Needle Rifle and plasma rifle, no grenades but active camo, the enemies were edited to, to make each wave a fight for survival, and have a sorta storyline first two I believe were patrols, now they know your here, they send in Elites, jackals, Grunts, Brutes, Hunters, Skirmishers. . . As you progress you’ll encounter hordes of enemies, in one you’ll be fighting I believe 4 Hunters, all of which can one shot you if they melee you. With Halo Infinite I just don’t have motivation to make something as thought out as that. Yes there is ODST armor, but the idea for that game mode is to encourage team work between the ODSTs, have each of you think of each other as brothers and become your own ODST, that shit doesn’t work when EVERY fucking person has the exact same armor and colors as each other (The primary would always be black, the secondary was up to the player.) Then theres a huge Star Wars battlefront inspired map I was making on Reach, the idea was the Covenant and UNSC at the same time going on offense and defense. The UNSC had two spawns, a ground F.O.B with a tank, a few warthogs, and a falcon, and a air base with 2 Sabers, AA defenses (Warthogs with anti air canons.) and a fleet of transport and attack falcons. Their objective was to destroy a Covenant airbase and eliminate ALL Covenant forces. To stop the UNSC the Covenant had multiple defensive positions, there was a Covenant naval vessel with a Fuel Rod shade turret, which I made use of the projectile arc, you can arc it to shell the F.O.B like Artillery. There were also two plasma cannons to the side to act as anti personal. Infront of it though, the UNSC had beach defenses, a tower with a SPARTAN laser inside facing the boat. Exploring the map rewards powerful weapons if you don’t spawn in the UNSC Airbase. Then you have my favorite part, a D-Day esc beach assault, the Covenant had set up defenses at the beach leading to the Airbase, multiple turrets, ghosts, and bunkers with anti personal weapons. Even Drop pods that landed. Infront of the beach theres a crashed Pelican with a secret weapon, a target locator that calls in Air Strikes hidden near the crash. Theres also a rocket launcher and sniper ammo. On the other side overlooking the beach and defending the F.O.B is a snipers nest for the UNSC, inside is a sniper with low ammo, anti personal turret, and active camo. Making it past the beach defenses shows the battle on the way to the airbase in the blood gulch area, crashed pelicans, flipped hogs. . . In this area theres a hidden golf club weapon. Then you have the Covenant Airfield, theres an armory, above theres two run ways, 2 Seraphs and 6 Banshees. The idea was it was a big team battle map. I don’t see my self trying to remake that in Infinite. Someone else is welcomed to, without proper customization I just don’t have the motivation.

Interesting comment but let's interject here. Call of Duty wasn't a populated franchise and actually didn't actually sell well until about 2008 or 2009. Across all platforms, which it released on all platforms, it sold just over 10 million copies by the end of 2008, with Xbox likely hitting 4,000,000 of these. By contrast, Halo 3 sold double this number by the same time span. Gears was another fun aspect. Gears of War multiplayer was popularized by it's entrance into tournament play through MLG, rather than it's actual gameplay design. Most players who touched gears multiplayer were looking at playing in tournament rather than for fun. By contrast, Halo had this scene, and it was very large at the time, but it was specific to the US, as Canada and the rest of the globe fixated on Gears of War in this light. Halo lobbies at launch were not infection, as infection wasn't gametype until October 2007. Most players touched infection for a cool off during their run in matchmaking, which typically would be a ranked playlist during these games releases. Since you said CoD4, this means it was before World At War, which was 2008, which sold a lot better than CoD4. CoD didn't actually pick up steam, pun intended, until MW2 in 2009, where it launched with a refined "Zombies" mode that surpassed World At War's original release. Now here's where your story hits minimal ground. Most players in Halo 3 were playing matchmaking, not custom lobbies. Custom lobbies weren't often held, and usually were by children (not adults). By contrast, many other games (Like CoD) would have these custom lobbies far more than Halo, as Halo's specific feature, which no other game had, was competitive matchmaking (Your 1-50 rank, and then in Halo 3, your tiered military rank exp that was limited by your 1-50 rank). So it's very likely you're confusing CoD 2009 World At War Zombies & MW2 with Halo 3, rather than remembering "People playing custom games on Halo 3". The most populated locations for Halo 2 & 3 were typically ranked offerings, namely slayer and lonewolves/ffa along side Doubles and BTB. With social being the location with guests, and custom games being for those offline (Or in MLG lobbies). Some players, for example in Halo 2 and even Halo 3, held custom game lobbies, but they typically weren't a continuous experience that would happen often. You usually would get spammed invites by players in matchmaking on the Xbox 360 to "join a custom game" more than you would see your friends inside of a custom game. That is, assuming you were over the age of 18 when this game launched. Adults didn't waste their time with that. Halo was a game about climbing leaderboards. And the lack of this entirely, as a greater belief, is why Halo Infinite has lost it's primary player-base and core audience focus...in exchange for the niche. Consider if this was the case, Halo Infinite would be at the highest player-count ever, as they introduced custom games browser into the game. It currently is where it was in August 2022, if not worse now.

How I can have over 700+ friends added from the MCC/H5 days and I'm lucky to have more than 10 on at a time on Infinite truly defines it for me. The vets are gone. Hell, a lot of H5 zoomers are gone too. It's sad to see but nothing can be in its prime forever, let alone last forever. Very well said Prec. It really does hit you like a ton of bricks when almost every player you’ve ever known, old veterans to young up and comers, completely disappear off the game. Damn bro, who the hell is cutting onions next to me. In all seriousness though, this video hit me hard. Just like you, I'm a Halo veteran since launch date CE. It was the reason I got on Xbox in the 1st place. In school, I made so much friends through Halo, doing system links, pizza and soda. Slowly thru the years, all my friends have stopped playing Halo. I have 2 friends, that ONLY play Halo. I'm not kidding, those 2 guys, was hard to get them to buy a different game to try it out together, I always had to almost beg them to buy a game with me so we can play together, the most I got to convince them was Left 4 Dead 2 lol. Even those 2 guys, have stopped playing Halo sadly. It felt like I was the only one remaining of the group, waiting for Halo to be awesome again. But I'm done waiting. Halo Infinite did it for me. There is just so much missing yet again from 343. It's really sad 😔. Sorry for any grammar, English is not my 1st language.

Halo infinite was the first halo game I ever played, I’m new to this franchise and it was truely wonderful. For a little while… A month or two of infinite and I was bored out of my mind, I couldn’t stand how the game felt so empty. I then saw how much fun people playing classic halo games like halo 3, and reach were, so I picked up an old copy of 3 and played the multiplayer shortly before it was taken offline a year ago. It was an infinitely better gaming/social experience. I’m glad all of you lived through the glory days of this franchise, I’m still holding out hope for 343 to become an actually decent company or hopefully a company that actually understands how to make a fun and social hall game takes over. I've moved on from the shooters I used to love to play RPGs, platformers, indies, and a whole bunch of other genres, and have been having a blast. I encourage anyone who feels that same way I felt, that feeling of "gaming isn't what it used to be," to do the same. You'll find that gaming's not ruined or anything like that; you just grew up.

It’s sad, but at some point people who want more from Halo have to accept that. I’m sorry to hear you feel the same way I do. Whatever games you decide to get into, I wish you the best of luck as you move forward!

God I miss the halo 3 glory days, I miss every single person that was on my big team, and there are many others also I played with who I remember fondly... I miss the mutual respect that organized big teams would have for eachother or possibly even mutual hatred. We definitely had our own little esports thing going on before that was really established at all, back when MLG was struggling to find footing. I could've been pro, easily a top 10,000 player at least, same with some of my teamates, we were damn good, and I miss that. We dominated and had fun doing it, using stupid weapons and dumb strategies. Rest in peace Delta Force Knights. DFK. Miss you guys: Lucario (maybe one of the best friends I ever made and lost online, UK fella with a warm fun voice and giggliness), KB (another great friend, all of these people were honestly, smooth-talking southern mofo who was a little older and always quick-witted and surprisingly intelligent based on his low-effort vocal mannerisms), RVCA (michael, who worked at a tortilla factory), Harddrive [leader, was like 5 feet tall and wrote fantasy books with his brother whos name I dont remember who also played with us], kingKev and his brother (lol cant remember either of the brothers names, a couple of UK hooligans with thick accents and a penchant for being loud), Jennyjean (our token special female, she was really good though, always kept at the top of the leaderboard with the rest of us), Dutchess and her husband (forget husbands name, these two were funny af, they werent the best but they were wonderful support/role players and their relationship always came off pretty wholesome, they owned a farm or some shit idk), Adam (who lived in my neighborhood when I was a little kid, we knew eachother for liek 4 years and then randomly RANDOMLY he ended up as a part of my clan through another friend, completely unrealistic unbelievable coincidence that we knew eachother previously in real life), and a few others. Thank you for sharing. I was never one of those Halo kids, I was simply too young at the time. And yet, the video still hits close to home. My childhood when it came to Halo was replaying the Halo 4 campaign (tried Halo 3, got scared at the flood and dipped) over and over again, sometimes with the house cleaning lady whenever she came by. My elementary/middle school also had MacBooks, and since I was in an afterschool program, I would be on the MacBook with all my friends playing a MacBook port of Halo CE multiplayer +mods, called Halo MD (I believe the acronym is for Mini Demo). We would host countless LAN lobbies, getting pissed off at each other for screen watching or spawn killing, but we still had a lot of fun. This, and CSGO, where the go-to multiplayer games for me and my friends whilst circumventing school restrictions. Fast-forward to my early years of high-school, I got myself Halo MCC and thoroughly enjoyed the campaigns and PVE content. Halo multiplayer was never really my thing, but I got really into custom games. Way before the custom games browser existed, I would host countless lobbies and explore so many cool gamemodes and maps. I would meet new people, some I have became friends with. Unfortunately, due to Xbox/Microsoft's incredibly dogshit social services, I got too tired of trying to setup those lobbies. I continued to play the PVE content more and more, becoming really good friends with one particular dude. I eventually grew tired of Halo, as it felt the same. New content was mostly (definitely not all, but mostly) new cosmetics, and obtaining seasonal points became a chore after hitting a certain rank/level. The addition of custom browsers is great, but it lacks the voicechat with everybody. So I played the waiting game for Halo Infinite. Then I played the flight. I bought the campaign. I played the "release." I watched video after video about how broken, rushed, and disappointing Infinite is. Much like you, I held out hope. Some good additions here and there, but the game's "live service" is unbearably slow. I want to see where Infinite's forge and custom games go, but it's a buggy mess trying to join lobbies. All the problems with Infinite also still exist: Dsync, long loading times, zero incentive to progress, etc. While I'm somewhat? interested in the upcoming battle royale (honestly I'm so tired of this genre of shooters) and campaign DLC, I don't have high hopes for either being of good quality. My passion for Halo has dried out, and Infinite is the reason for it. The stories, the multiplayer, and the culture are no where as good as it used to be. Anyways, thanks for reading my wall of text (that is if you did haha). Almost everybody I know and see are giving up on Halo, and honestly, who can blame them?

@@Legitsky Hey man I recently came back to MCC cuz my boy said it has gotten so much better recently. Are you playing? I would really love some new H3 content from you!! Hit registration seems to be about 75% fixed but still not perfect. I still get a ton of ghost melees where I lunge at someone and hit them but the melee does no damage (of course their melee works just fine!:) Still get blood shots more than OG H3 but its whatever. The thing that really bothers me is the shooting players 5 or 6 times with BR to kill them when they are AFK. It seems like there are still some hit registration issues to iron out BUT it is definitely better than a year ago. Just not what it was back in OG H3 IMHO. Also we are wondering why there are so many sweaty players in social slayer playlists and NO ONE playing ranked playlists? Are the ranked playlists broken? I found a game in a few mins in ranked slayer and ranked dubs... Maybe the good players would rather just dump on the new players and scrubs? Some of my friends wont play cuz social is to sweaty. The sweats are ruining social for the returning players which is demonstrably killing the player population. I have seen this first hand for multiple players. I bet this exact issue is driving TONS of returning players away from the game right now. I got 6 of my old teammates to come play MCC with my over the last 2 weeks and we all had some fun for sure but most of them don't want to keep playing because we cant even practice in social slayer due to all the sweats that refuse to play ranked. They went back to Infinite to get back into Halo because of the training mode with bots and lower skill level in social slayer. What's the deal with this? At first I just thought that everyone was just so much better than me but then I go into plenty of games where I had no problem running the lobby so there are still lots of average players in MCC H3 social playlists. Sorry so long but I am really having some fun playing MCC and I plan to keep playing but at the same time it is really hard to train and get better when the social playlists are packed with sweats that wont let me respawn. I did ask some random players in the lobby and they claim that they cant find games which is ironic because if they all just played ranked they would have more players to find games faster LOL But also I tried ranked and had a game in a few minutes so IDK... Thoughts?

The social aspect about Infinite seems to apply to most every game these days. Games now feel structured to be as competitive as possible with little room to goof off with your friends. And also funnel you to the shop to pay for micro transactions. Imo the worst part is that people growing up playing these games like we all did with games like Halo 3 or MW2 (2009) maybe won’t realize just how good they could have got it had games been put out the way they used to
@Legitsky
@Legitsky Жыл бұрын
Well stated. Truthfully, as a competitive player I wholeheartedly believe that the casual experience is the most critical priority to nail for games. Especially Halo. I don’t want to play a Halo that’s built from the ground up to be an ultra competitive game simply because I know the game won’t be popular or even all that good. Plus, a Halo game built from the ground up to cater to the casual experience foremost will not only be much more popular but it’ll have plenty of room for tweaks for competitive players. Otherwise games become too harsh and uncompromising with a massive barrier to entry for the average player. I know this because games like the original trilogy of Halo titles already proved this. They’re just party games at the end of the day. Thanks for sharing your insights.

@Legitsky

I think it was probably unnecessary. It just goes to show that 343 view MCC as the definitive classic Halo experience, even though it’s a pretty watered down version of the originals. The classic Halo titles had this intrinsic value and charm, and they had unique features that made their matchmaking systems really fun. Those games were particularly populated but still, leaving them be would have been in better taste I think.

Good question. My answer short term is no, simply because it would take several years for a new game to be developed. So I would still be in a position where I wouldn’t be playing. Long term, if a new studio released a Halo game that was good (or even if 343 did) I would consider coming back. But as it stands we are years away from either of those options materializing, so I’ll stick to just not playing.

One of the most amazing things I've seen and the photos were out of this world. I normally go there every year but I would have never thought carp that size would swim in those shallow waters. I really enjoyed this, thanks!

It’s a beautiful spot. Not a lot of people know about it, it’s a bit of a hidden gem. The fishing is just unbelievable this time of year over here. I appreciate you commenting, and hopefully I’ll see you this summer at the campgrounds!

I came into Halo with 3, and stuck with all of the ones to come after. ODST was a delight in singleplayer, Reach had some of the best custom games in all of console gaming, even Wars has a special place in my heart. I didn't even bother finishing 5's campaign, though Warzone Firefight was... enjoyable, mostly. I'm honestly glad that I had skepticism for Infinite, but even then I wanted Halo Infinite to be good! Wars was proof that a different team can make an enjoyable experience, even if it was goofy and unbalanced. Infinite... just lost that last part of the old Halo 'soul' that had been waning for so long. It hurts to see the franchise this way for so long. Excellent video.

Well stated my friend. Halo Infinite just feels totally soulless. It’s hollow, it’s dull, it’s sterile, and it’s just plain sad to see. Because we’ve seen just how good Halo can be. But after years of watching Halo decline this has to feel like the lowest point. Thanks for your feedback and insight, I appreciate it!

@@Legitsky The only truly good thing from 343's Halo was Spartan Ops, way back in 4. If the Halo timeline beyond 3's ending was just that, I honestly wonder if the community would be happier. It'd have given 343 way more freedom with the stories to tell, for sure. Playing as 'not chief' worked in Spartan Ops, though I admit I wasn't too in-tune with the community by the time 4 rolled around. PS, I miss the Plasma Rifle and old Shotgun dearly. They just felt... better to use their their modern replacements. God, remember the controversy with the Storm Rifle?

Very good video man. I too loved Halo when I was younger I couldn’t see my self play anything else. I was always so quick to brag that I played Halo when people would talk about Cod (I was 9) good times.

Thanks Chris. It’s crazy how years ago being a Halo player was a source of pride for so many of us. It was a cultural force that brought so many of us together. Good times indeed.

When we couldn't even paint our own armour I felt like that set the tone for what Infinite would turn out to be.

That’s right. This game was doomed when player expression was so badly nerfed.

Games today in general just don’t have the social features that older games did. I remember as a kid absolutely loving the globe in Halo 3 matchmaking where lights would be dotted across the real Earth showing where people are playing. I remember how Call of Duty used to tell you how many people were playing. I played Halo 3 on the Xbox 360 the day that the servers shut down. It was honestly kinda sad seeing so few people online. There were only a handful of dots around the world. But I did get to play some final matches before it died. The MCC the great but it misses the charm of the old menus. I just want that globe back.

Yeah, nowadays gaming has become very antisocial and stagnant. Back then gaming was a thriving ecosystem and culture that spanned the whole globe. What a letdown.
