Sounds like to me, she didn't have any trouble spending the insurance money on a fancy retaining wall. She seems shady, I would cut your losses and move on.

TO KEEP YOUR SPIRIT GOOD, I WOULD WRITE HER OFF. I'D STILL GET WHAT SHE OWED ME. SHE'S PROVED HERSELF TO BE UNTRUSTWORTHY. TO ME WRONG THE FIRST TIME, ITS YOUR FAULT, DO IT A SECOND TIME, IT WOULD BE MINE.

No good deed goes unpunished. Keep her as a customer and charge her before you come out.

She knows you were badly treated and I have not heard one attempt of an apology. I would go by that. No apology means it will happen again.

I'd ask for the money again and then have her pre-pay as the only option. She doesnt seem mean, but perhaps she is extremely disorganized. This is why a pre-pay would be ideal, that way it pushes her to be pro-active.

Tough one. I’d feel the same way you do. I feel bad for the woman but it’s still a business. The part you said ‘feeling bitter each service’, oh yeah it’s gonna cross your mind every time. I hate to say but I’d move on.

a mans wife is not that man. They are two different people. I have seen great and respectable men married to terrible manipulative women. Cut her lose as a client. You gave him great service because he was a great customer and earned that relationship. She has not and hasn't tried. walk away.

YOU ARE TRADING YOU LIFE FOR DOLLARS REMEMBER THAT, AND OTHER PEOPLE SHOULD RESPECT THAT BECAUSE YOUR LIFE ISN'T INFINITE. JUST A LITTLE ADVICE FROM SOMEBODY AFTER 50 YEARS OF SELF EMPLOYMENT FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH.

Buddy I’m a little different than a lot of other people. There’s to much work out there to deal with people that that try to take advantage of you. My rule of thumb is you get 1 strike with me. It’s too hot here in central Mississippi to put up with non sense. In my opinion and if it was me she would be looking for somebody else. I have a customer finding out the hard way that I own the business right now not her. She didn’t let me know that she was re sodding half of her back yard without letting me know. When I showed up she informs me of everything and that I will need to push mow until sod is rooted good, and that the back yard was to wet to cut that day to come back in 2 to 3 days. That’s when she got her new price for mowing and that I would be back in a week on her scheduled day, or she had the option of finding someone else it was up to her.

Just move forward. She took advantage of you. It's terrible for her to take it out on you.

I’d have a talk with her tell her you are sorry for what she’s been through but how you feel about the way things were handled and get a clear understanding before moving forward with further services. I too owned a commercial lawn, landscaping and parking lot sweeping business for 20 years,it is very upsetting to do a professional job and then have someone come along and destroy your work,I have had this happen several times. But let the lady know how you feel if you lose her business that’s on her.

After talking with this person to express myself just like you did in this video. To move forward...card on file which will be charged before service is the ONLY way I would take this property back.

If she was as decent as you she would have paid you the full amount. She took advantage of your kindness. If you billed her $70 and she paid it thats on you. If you keep the account raise the rate $10hr and no more mr nice guy discounts. If you cant put it behind you dump her lifes to short. Stay hydrated in that heat

I would move on! It sounds like, going forward, things will get in the way. She knows she had not paid you yet. So move on!

Out of respect for your late customer you took care of business The widow didn't handle things right but maybe you can get back on track if she pays the old bill and for at least one season pays you up front for the work and maybe she'll have her act together if she doesn't want to then just write it off as a last tribute to your late custome

Honest opinion it seems you had a negative attitude towards the job to begin with. Its very common for people to tell the other contractors that its ok to park the machines on the grass and to put the materials off to the side of the driveway and its not any of your business to tell them to move. You should have just mowed around them and moved on and made a effort to collect payment as normal. As far as the payment part goes its sounds like the lady husband was handling the finances and she was not familiar how to pay your invoice and the agreement you had with the husband. More than likely could have went over knocked on the door and had payment same day.

@fzz188 or they can wait until I'm done instead of putting pallets of materials in the way. That part is my business when I'm hired to do a job. It's common courtesy, just like if there is someone installing an irrigation system, they would expect me to wait instead of getting in the way. As far as payment goes, I would've been happy to walk her through it if she had said that she didn't know how. I guess I didn't mention that she avoided phone calls and never came to the door when I knocked. I tried all of that, bud. There was no negative attitude, I tried to cut her a break because I genuinely felt bad for her. It is what it is, though. I'm moving on from it.

Hey buddy, nice to see you're staying busy. I wanted to remind you that you didn't "let your emotions get the best of you" you were human. You saw a place to help and you were able to and you did. It seems to me that people who are coming up have the least amount of trouble with forgetting that we are all human. The main thing here is that you shouldn't let things sour your humanity. Some people are jerks, that is a solid fact, but they don't come with neon signs above their heads telling you wether they are or not. People sometimes genuinely need help. From the business standpoint.... when people show you who they are you should believe them. Don't second guess yourself. This lady didn't pay in a timely manner for your work. Moving forward with her I would absolutely request payment up front for a set amount of time at the very least. I would also charge her regular pricing. If she wants to continue using your service she will. If not then I'm sure you won't lose any sleep over it. I work with civil engineers and if spmeone does a retiaining wall "correctly" then they aren't cheap. However to assume makes an ass out of you and me. You giving the lady a break might have been the reason she ate that week. We can't know this stuff a lot of the time and that sucks. If you make sure only to help out when you are able to then things such as this shouldnt' bother you too much. Kind of like lending money to friends or family.. If you lend them some money make sure its not an amount you dont mind losing or youll wind up losing friends and maybe even family. Trust your gut when someone shows you who they ara, trust your head when you make moves with your business and trust yourself when it comes to helping others.
