Do the test without the vest and after the academy with the vest. Weighted vest shift during runs anyway.

A lot of chief’s want to make yearly POPAT qualifications, but know that if they do so, they will lose so many officers. You only have to pass in the academy and never again unless you want to get on a squad that requires a physical qualification. You also have to understand that most officers are on specialized units and get off of them and get reassigned. It’s a complicated mess because for a lot of jobs you don’t need to be in the best shape of your life. This is completely necessary for patrol, swat and other sworn position that require strength, agility and stamina. This isn’t me disagreeing with you, but if you wanted a reason why there are so many big officers. That’s why.

@@bunniesiatc449That and most of the overweight officers are usually 15-20 years into their career. When you're a 45 Y/O Sgt with 2 bad knees, slipped lumbar discs and 20 years of alcoholism+stress eating, you say fuck it let the younger guys handle the physical stuff.😂

I wish I had the opportunity to become a police officer, but poor decisions in my youth make that impossible. Once you grow older, you definitely change for the better..

I'm in the same boat just a few years ago made some bad choices and stuff I still applied trained for a few months till I got DQ but I have an opportunity to appeal I think as long as you don't have a felony or violent misdemeanors and can show them you've changed and are on a different path compared to your past you'll be fine everyone likes a good redemption story. Also apply to as many departments as you can if one department DQ you and doesn't allow you to reapply anymore try the next.

And how many officers are that light! Im tall being 6'3" but haven't been that weight since like late elementary or early middle school!!! Unless the cop short and fit.....or female and fit most I'd think weight more than that. That's nit including the weight of gear.

Waivers! Same as military once certain numbers are needed little things get overlooked especially when a college degree is present! They will waive certain test for certain reasons and a college degree or prior service will get a lot waived!

not all departments have this type of training. That’s why. Most if not all of them usually do just basic running: and mixed martial arts. I think there’s only one academy in my hometown NJ, That does this type or something similar to it

All I had to do was 2000 meters on a rowing machine at my PD! Of course, I would have died in the academy if that’s all I had been training for.

Definitely recommend upper body and core workouts like planks and pushups. Jumping jacks for cardio and eat plenty of proteins and don't forget your vitamins. It's hot out here.

I can’t do push-ups and I start the academy in October😅 any tips? I’ve been going to the gym but I don’t know which machines I should focus on

@@mibranwen5555 You can always start off small, like doing planks to strengthen your core and wall push-ups as silly as that sounds. Then work your way into table pushups until you feel your arms are strong enough. Then once you feel confident you can do floor pushups start off small and work your way up. It ain't easy it does take work but at the end of the day its worth it. You can do it! 💪

She didn’t mention all these exercises are timed, and you do have to do a warm up routine before starting this portion, with only 2 mins of rest in between each exercise.

They often have practice tests days before the physical agility where instead of paying the full price they charge you around $35 rather than $100 for a physical agility test ticket
