While don't believe Kaiju unalived Dom, I think if dom passed from sickness kaiju may have eaten the body, and that could be why you couldn't find him either. But I'm not sure if mantis shrimp are scavengers. I'm gonna miss his little taps tho..😢

As much as you dont want to believe Kaiju ate Dom, this is by far the most likely scenario. Domino damsels are almost indestructible, and Dom was a juvenile and feeding well. Ive worked in the aquarium trade and took a particular interest in stomatopods.- we had both "smashers" and "spearers" over the time i ran our aquarium store - you *really* cannot guarantee anything will survive long term with a stomatopod, even a smasher like the peacock you have. They are *extremely* agressive and quite volatile - a domino damsel isnt a staple food for a peacock mantis, and Kaiju appeared well fed, but these are not guarantees that the mantis wont just kill anything that gets too close or triggers a feeding response. We always ended up keeping any stomatopods we had in single species, single specimen acrylic tanks, as anytime we mixed the bigger ones particularly with anything else it would eventually end up dead.

I'm there with you. I've had a tank for months now with no fish being able to survive. All the coral and invertebrates are fine but fish die within days. It's sad but I just happens I guess

Iodine spike can be caused by adding the salt water from the bags of water your new fishes come in. Over time your salt levels increase as your water evaporate. Since salt don't evaporate it concentrates. An quiet and deadly loop. You add fish and salt then natural evaporation, more salt get concentrated, fish dies, confusion, full water change, then new fish gets added with more salt water.

It might be worth getting whatever water source you typically use checked, especially if you're on a well and use tap, as it's possible that's where the iodine is coming from

One thing that might make you anthia less skittish is getting a few more, I know it's expensive but everything I've learned about them is ~3-5 is a good number for them to be out and about in your tank. RIP Dom and the leaf fish, here's hoping that the curse of that tank is gone now that you've got something just a little less deadly than your mantis shrimp in it!

RIP Dom. Losing a fish is never easy for me, especially ones I’m emotionally attached to. I used to have a betta that was my pride and joy and I was devastated when he passed (rip Caesar). I think I like the name Tino for him. I dunno why, just strikes me as either a Tino or Valentino.
