Are you a girl who's not like other girls?
Instead of looking at r/notlikeothergirls , we're checking out basically that subreddit but on facebook.
I found this great facebook group on facebook called I'm not like other girls, i'm just one of the guys.
it's a hidden gem on facebook.
I'm excited to fossilize this experience by sharing it all with you, because misery loves company.
i'm deleting my facebook account after this.
i hope u like my commentary.

The first one wasn’t a not like other girls thing, she was making a valid point that a lot of the “female gaze” male love interests are more for men than women. She’s saying that a lot of men in the media that are portrayed as buff, muscly, etc are for the men that want to be them, not for women to be attracted to.

Yes, that is the case for more extreme exemples. But i wouldn't say that in general "buff man" aren't made to appeal to girls. Not every girl will like the steryotype but it's definitely popular. Just by going to parties you can definetly see it happen, and as well by looking for popular characters, etc. Male gaze is definetly a thing, but i find it more apparent when the guy is so muscly it becomes TOO MUSCULAR and actually kinda uggly, in superhero media lines become kinda blurry

But using the same logic I could say that hot men are for women to gaze at, as in 200% on romentic comedies the male is for the girls to gaze at and aspire to be with someone alike, while hot women is for girls to look up to, I know girls tht grew up and still admire Lara Croft. Why cant we admit tht as a people doesnt matter the sex, we like to have something to look at in movies and media. I mean ismt the most famois people also the most attractive? I mean havent u seen them male and female tik tokers? I dnt understand why females want to paint the picture tht they are all nuns while men are all perverts or some kind

A lot of women feel this way due to misogyny. The term "basic" is thrown around to women who like things like pumpkin spice or the color pink. And often times women can be made fun of for either being too masculine or too feminine. As a person assigned female at birth, I've dealt with both. If you aren't feminine enough they call you a man but if you're too feminine they will still make fun of you. So women like this feel more powerful by saying they are special in some way because it makes them feel more worthy. Growing up I was definitely one of these people. When I told myself I was different from those other girls it made me feel unique and less weak since many people would use me being a woman as a way to call me weak. This brings in the whole issue of misogyny being the reason for many of these mindsets. It's basically just internalized misogyny and a way to turn other women against each other when really we're all dealing with the same issues and pressures to be perfect and deemed worthy for other men because this world likes to base our worth on how men see us and what they say about us

Okay, yes, it is very bad how there's so much misogyny in our society that it has gotten to this point, but also, stereotypes exist for a reason, I'm talking exclusively about the pumpkin spice enjoyers because holy shit they all look the same, and what they think, or what they sound like and what they enjoy besides the spice can be as diverse as the stars in the sky, but it's impressive how similar they all are at a surface level.

Yes! Exactly this!! I like makeup and fashion, Barbies, hot pink, pumpkin spice everything AND I like video games, building toys, power tools/construction, etc, and also "weird" interests like Billie Eilish or indie music (I know Billie isn't indie she is more mainstream but for some reason people who like her are seen as NLOG girls), alt fashions, tarot and the occult. Basically I don't really fit neatly into a stereotype because I've known very few people who actually do. Somehow I've been called both "Basic" / "Girly" and a "Not Like Other Girls" girl for my interests. So... you really can't win lol

Bro I felt this in literal kindergarden... From a small age on, I would get told by all my peers that girls are weak and not as cool as boys, so since the age of 4 or something I always said: "Im 80% boy" and "I dont wanna be a princesy, I wanna be a thief when I grow up" and some stuff like this (ofc not on a child mind level, but intenalized) I am still fighting with until today. This type of mysogyny has affected my life the most from all the sexist things I have been confronted with and I am fighting with the consequences until this day, hoping for it to get better maybe when I get older (am still pretty young, barely an adult). So, thank you so much for your comment, you have no idea how much this meant to me ❤️

but fr fr, i liked that last quote, i've never actually thought of things like that and i remember when i was younger and all i cared about was trying to appease men and be "sexy" and "unique" and all that because that's what movies and shows and LIFE tells us all the time. it's been a struggle for me to make (or i guess KEEP) girl friends growing up because there was always jealousy in the air in the awkward era where we would both think of each other as competition almost? i feel like things have really progressed from then, not only within myself but how women feel more empowered now to do things that make them feel sexy and unique, without judgement from their friends and without the expectation that they only do it to appease men. i mean, obviously we still have a long way to go, but there's significant progress with self expression and i am all for that

I actually think, while cringy, the first tweet is pretty accurate, because a lot of girls are more into guys with smaller builds or skinny bodies, rather than gym rats. But despite women making it very clear that they prefer men who look like that, men still have the idea that all women like a guy who’s huge and muscular, because they often get their advice on what women like from other men, rather than women. I would also argue that it doesn’t fit into the “not like other girls” type of statements, because generally those statements are made to impress men by putting down other women and separating themselves from a stereotypical feminine woman. This tweet does not attempt to do that. It’s just saying that men don’t understand that some women have a preference for something other than body-builder-looking guys.

I was a kid during the time when Justin Bieber was really popular and I loved to hate him with every fiber of my being because girls my age were supposed to love him. I had an obsession that bordered on fanfiction fantasies. I would daydream in class that he would want to come to my elementary school and give a speech to our class about whatever just so I could stand up and heckle him until we would finally, yes finally, become the mortal enemies I always dreamed of us being. I dreamed of the fight between us that would kickstart a life of rivalry and I wanted to destroy him. I would watch videos of him and plan how I would publicly humiliate him and destroy his spirit. Now that I'm an adult I think he's chill and I wish him the best but I don't really have any strong opinions on it

But oh gee once I left my house more and got different hobbies and met more people, suddenly girls are pretty good friends. And well, I can also not judge any teen girl for having their not like other girls phase, cos it's rough being a teen girl. I only judge the ones older than me or in my workplace cos I don't have to hear a THIRTY YEAR OLD talk sht like "I don't think you hear this alot, but I'm actually a HUGE nerd, I love gaming, and I could NEVER wear dresses or drown my face in make up. Yet all the thirst traps still have super fit guys? I want to be strong and fit, but nowadays I'm not allowed to without being seen as having "toxic masculinity". Never mind the fact that I WANT TO BE FIT, but now that's "toxic". A few years ago toxic masculinity meant what you do and how you act, but now it seems like even how we look is under attack. I've seen many comments that go along the lines of "I love feminine men because they aren't going to be toxic unlike buff guys." "Buff and hairy guys are so ugly" etc. Like what happened to don't judge a book by its cover damn.

That's a pretty comprehensive list of male expectations tbh I'd also add "can eat like a man but not be fat" because men want women to not eat salads but look like they do, but they want them to somehow maintain their figure while also eating pizza and beer (like the prior photo). I love pizza and beer but I'm fat because you can't eat pizza and beer and not get fat off of it (at least I can't, if you can then you're lucky!)

Having lived the "Facebook tag group" lifestyle for a hot minute a few years back, I'm fairly certain this whole group is meant to be satirical and mock the "pick me" and "i'm not like most girls" mentality.

That post at 2:00... I think there are women with all kinds of tastes, but there is no majority that likes (overly) muscular men, for various reasons. And the fact that muscular male characters are most often created by men, make it seem like it's actually intended for a male audience. Instead, women are expected to like them. Just as a lot of (overly) sexualised female characters are created by men, intended for a male audience, but women are expected to view them as empowering. I feel like she was just trying to say that she wished male creators would do more research on what different/most women would prefer to see in a male character. Besides that, when there is media predominately created for women, it still happens that a lot of the characters (male and female) are not to most women's liking.

Gaming wasn't so much a thing when I was on high school... But happily I never knew the first type of girl. For that matter I never knew the second type of girl either. When we'd all get together and play console girls the girls were just about as into it as the guys and nobody became a toxic douche about it. Instead we all just had a good time together and wasting time playing games was just one of the things we'd do.

I remember my "not like other girls" phase. It ended when I realized that if you aren't "like other girls" it's because you have different interests as a human being because we're all unique individuals, and you're comparing yourself to a caricature.

As long as you don't make your identity "I only hang out with guys, etc" & constantly point it out as if it makes you better, no worries. Hang out with people that make you feel comfortable, doesn't matter what the demographic is.

I was a not like the other girls girl since my 7th grade. I didn't feel like a girl. So I tried cutting my hair short, wearing T-shirts and pants and all that stuff that are stereotypically "boyish". And then I didn't feel like a boy either. Turned out, I was Non-Binary. Not a girl, not a boy

I did have my "I'm not like other girls" phase, I used to say thinks like "I'm not thinking all the time about boys, I don't care about having a boyfriend, all the other girls talk about cute celebrities, and I like anime". At the end, I was talking with other girls about cute anime boys, and I discovered I was aroace all along lmao

Had a bit like other girls phase mostly because, turns out I'm ace, but A LOT of the conversations girls in middle to high school and spilling into college are very relationship focused, and a lot of the people around me really didn't sit well. Like a person's legitimate, entire life purpose from their own words being to hurry up and get married so they can stop working and get fat. And just me watching that like oh wow I really don't wanna be here. Also was a small town and a really crappy focus group
