Have a good, safe trip and what out for those idiots! For suggestions (I have 20+ years on you so be kind) a road atlas in case your phone fails, some sort of roadside assistance like AAA and a flashing beacon or strobe light that you can attach to the back of your bike for the side of road emergencies.

This was when people didnt vlog about everything they do. l wound up going all the way to Key West and then home thru a national park that was mostly a bridge. l was 17 in 1980 when l did this.

It's amazing how little you really need, she'll figure it out. Also I've gotten to the point were I don't camp anymore. You have to carry all the crap and then there is the time it takes to set up camp in the evening and break down in the morning. A cheaper motel isn't that that much more expensive than a good camp ground.

I carry a rolling luggage rack because that luggage can get pretty heavy especially when you are carrying your helmet in. My luggage stays on my bike when I'm only staying 1 night. I use a detachable roll bag that I carry my toiletries and a change of clothes for the overnighter. I also take an extension cord with multiple outlets so I can charge everything in one place. There's more but you'll figure out what you need the more you do long distance travel. Just remember to stop before you get to tired and don't be in such a rush to get to your destination that you forget to take in the sites and enjoy yourself. Be safe and keep the Shiney side up and rubber side down

I've ridden extensively across the US and Canada, at least 250k miles on road trips. My advice is the left saddlebag is for frequently used items: food, water, wipes, extra gloves, etc. You should be stopping every 100-200 miles for breaks anyway so that saddle bag is my 'kitchen'. Put a small flexible cooler in there too. Right saddle bag is for emergency supplies plus safety gear. That saddle bag is the 'garage'. Tank bag is for stuff you need right away. Sunglasses, other keys, wallet, lip balm, camera, kleenex, etc. I often take pictures by pulling over and not getting off the bike. Tank bag is the 'purse'. Tail pack is for everything you need to take into a motel: clothes, personal items, etc. Tail pack is the 'closet'. I take the tail pack and tank bag in to my room when at a motel and lock the bike up. Also, put maps in your tank bag and mark points of interest to stop along the way. Use a GPS too. It helps finding food, gas and hotels plus is great for not getting lost in big cities which is where most accidents occur. Mount it high as possible to keep your eyes up and don't program it while moving. Avoid the interstate at all costs and plan a route with sites to see but don't plan a schedule. It's all about getting away from your regular life.

My second road trip was solo from Chicago to the Florida keys, I met a guy from Ohio in a Florida rest stop near Daytona. To my amazement he was riding a old beat up CB 350 Honda loaded to the gills with all his gear. He rode with me from Daytona beach to Fort Lauderdale before we parted ways. Number one thing to prepare for on long trip. Rain. Rain gear so you can ride in light rain. Things to do under freeway bridge when it’s raining too hard. Extra clothes to change to when you get soaked. I used to travel around my state ( shorter trips ) with small pup tent on handlebars and sleeping bag rolled up with a washcloth and soap inside of it strapped behind me. Bare bones. You better BOLT that stuff to your bike. Cracks me up to see people quick strap some stuff to their bike or even car- trailer. They’re getting out every 20 miles to make sure it’s still there.

I’m pretty sure the same oil is in transmission and crankcase from 1991 The only place it used to leak was from seeping through the head gasket ( ??? ) Don’t begin to tell me all Triumphs leak. Young blood goes with young motorcycles. Harley has its genuinity, but sofar failing to produce modern style cruiser for 21st century. Both technology and style is very backwards. It really struggles that's why loses people. Older guys dont feel it, but younger do. Ask Italians to make over and Germans to give some insight into the engine and so. It will pay off. Look at the futuristic BMW cruiser. Man thats some bike. All the Harley guys will say about some spirit or what ever is a crap. Doesnt work. I like harley sound its history... Its like JEEP. I love JEEP. But please man... especially that black big front mask over the old style body looks so ugly. If I would be CEO of Harley I would make that company flourish once again. All those guys in the top management are just narcisistic self centered living in their own bubble, at least sound like by the actions they lead the company to disaster.

It is good to see you being so excited about riding and trips. It is all so new to you still. I'm 70 and been riding since I was about 12 on dirt bikes but I had my first pan head when I was 16. Anyway have fun that is what it is all about, and assume very car on the road is going to pull out in front of you or is out to get you, and look for a safe route around them. (free advise). But in joy with all your heart. my old bike has 245,000 miles on it and my new one that i bought in April has 12,000 already. I'm waiting for fall weather before my next long trip another 3000 miles, when your 70 you and heat don't get along much anymore. do it all while you are young and healthy. don't be afraid of doing a lot of cross country trip. they are a blast being a girl just be watchful of people around you. and be a where of your surroundings. with a good head on your shoulders you will be alright. and remember those with the most miles win.

I live in Florida and absolutely agree with what joseph bianco said. Here You've got really slow drivers, really fast and aggressive drivers, lots of folks drifting into your lane as they text and drive.....and those are the GOOD drivers! I'd suggest plotting a course that keeps you as much as possible off of I-95 (if you're coming this way) and out of congested cities if you can avoid.

Take pictures of all your important documents... I also stash some cash and a spare credit card in a secure location just in case... Create a checklist on your phone, hate getting on the road and discovering I left something critical behind. Have AAA for a tow in case the dreaded breakdown happens. Also, download the GPS route maps, if you loose cell service you won't loose navigation. You might want do invest in a SOS device, not very expensive and if an emergency happens you can summon help. One more ... Some pain meds might be advisable, something that won't make you sleepy. And, stash a spare key with the cash...

Keep you're tools and safety kit on the right side of your bike, if you are ever pulled over and have to work on your bike, stay on the right side of the bike to ensure your safety from traffic coming from behind you. 2. Keep your PPE on the left side all you have to do is reach over, open the saddle bag and pull out the jacket as this limits your exposure to traffic. Safety, safety, safety. You will always notice motorcycle cops access most of what they need from the right side and also mount from the right side also.

Good luck on your trip. I actually just did this myself because I'm headed to Sturgis. I threw a video on my channel about my pre-flight checks I do before every ride. Whether you have someone do it for you or you do it yourself ... it's uber important to do a head to toe check on your ride. Have fun!

The mask period is not doing any good...staying 6 ft. away allegedly does the most good. Those masks don't stop droplets :P Besides, most likely the mask is from China too!

You don't need "masks". You wear a full face helmet I walk around everywhere with a helmet on even if I drive my truck.

How exciting! Jess, you pretty much nailed it. I do keep a cloth for glasses and helmet shields along with one for the bike. I do enjoy those solo trips and having a quick bike check is the smartest thing to do. 👍🏼 I’ve always try to pack heavy items as low as possible with lighter on top, then a little test ride to feel if I have the weight dispersed evenly. I use cube packs in my bags, just make it easier for me, including my camera gear, cords and batteries. I didn’t care for my air hawk (just never really felt right) but like to hear how you like the gel seat cushion. Have a great ride Jess! Be well and ride safe! Oh yea, and if you ever make it out here....🤙🏼

You packed most of what I would also pack, but there are a few things I'd add. First and foremost, I keep a six-pack can cooler strapped to my luggage rack. I fill it with Vitamin Water bottles that I froze the night before. That way, they'll stay cool all day, and I put snack bars in the pouch in the lid. I outfitted my handlebars with a chrome bottle holder that fits Vitamin Water perfectly, so I don't have to stop when I need a drink. As far as regular, every day items I keep in my bags is a small emergency tool kit. You can find a Motion Pro T-handle socket sets on Amazon that have the most common sizes, but you can always supplement with odd-ball sockets from your main toolbox. I also have a weekender set of Allen wrenches I take with me. I will be adding a Roto Pax. Thanks for that tip!

Great video and good vibes sent your way on your trip. Just took my bike to Florida two weeks ago. I wanted to ride the bike, but, trailered it down. It wasn’t a pleasure trip, moving down in about a month or so. I have a Road King and can’t wait to be down and ride. Love your videos. Can’t wait for the updates 👍

You are so SO organized! After absolute essentials, I usually just keep adding random things 'till I can't fit anything else. And then, on the road, I can't find anything (wallet, cell phone, now where did I put that after using it last time?) I'm going to bookmark this for reference and use it in the future. Have fun and be safe (and not necessarily in that order)!

For camping in hot weather a little sprizter bottle in the tent - a little mist over the body cools you down and can make all the difference for sleeping soundly on hot southern nights. Back scratcher. That's the spot.

Have fun, be safe. At this time of the year in the South, we have daily threats of afternoon thunderstorms. Sometimes you get nothing, sometimes severe storms, and everything in between. I use my phone and weather radar updates to make sure I'm not riding into tornadoes on long distance trips. Looking forward to your post-ride report. If you are planning to use Interstate 75 - avoid taking the interstate through Chattanooga, detour onto main roads such as US-41. There is a ton of construction and they periodically shut down the 1 remaining lane to move equipment through. I pulled through there last week and sat for over an hour at a stand still. As others have mentioned, use the loop to get around Atlanta.

Have a safe and enjoyable trip. The Rotopax is a great idea. I'll have to remember that one. I use them on my Jeep but never thought about carrying one on the bike. Not sure where you're going in Fla but if you're crossing the state on I-10 it is pretty desolate on the stretches before and after Tallahassee. I just made the trip from central MS to Wheeling WV; went through Chattanooga and Knoxville on the way up and Columbus and Nashville on the way home. Stopped in Farrow East; and of course Downtown; had to get my "oldest Harley dealer in America" T-shirt and chip. Also stopped in at Neidengards; that was a really nice place. Youngstown dealership was huge and really nice people too. Anyway, has a happy and safe trip.

Thank you for this video and so many others! I've been watching your videos (and Doodle on a Motorcycle, As the Magpie Flies, The Girl on a Bike, and others) as I prepare for my cross-country trip in April. I bought a BMW F850GS in Newport Beach, CA and I'll be driving it home to Charlotte, NC... stopping at a lot of National Parks to hike and explore along the way. I won't be camping - I'm too old for that. Ha! I'll be in hotels and airbnbs and will KZfaq my journey. Thanks for being an inspiration to me!
