I know some people that buy expensive cars and they prefer to finance them and invest the money instead. Not sure I can get behind that...cause I doubt they really have the cash to buy a $100k or so car. I guess if you have the money that at any time you could pay it off maybe I could see it. Invest 100k or so at avg around 10% makes some sense keeping money invested if the finance rate is low like under 4%.

We just paid off our car and are completely debt free. No, it wasn’t fun writing the $9300 check, but it was a blast seeing that loan balance at $0.00. We’ll replace that money in our savings over the next 3 months. Like this lady, we are looking to buy a house in the next six months. We want to chunk down as big a down payment as possible. I just had to be “nudged” by the wife to do what I already knew was the smart move. Now, we can look to buy with no other outstanding debt.

You can usually get a decent used car for around $3-5k. Even with an occasional breakdown it's much cheaper. It's still a lot less than monthly car payments. I got my used car 6 years ago for about $3.5k(in cash) and since then I have probably paid an additional $1.5k in repairs. Which is about $ 5k in total. Meanwhile the average used car payment is $381 a month or $4.5k a year. So in that same 6 years you could pay $27k on a "reliable" or save yourself $20k and buy and regularly maintain an affordable used car for around 3-5k.

My problem with this one is yeah live debt free paying cash for everything and see what you get when buying a house UNLESS you can pay cash for it too...

Don't buy real estate without being debt free but a mortgage is a debt as a matter of fact anything you owe is a debt so whether you owe money for a car a house a boat or a bedroom set debt is debt

Pay off the car and then can't buy a house? That makes no sense whatsoever!! A house is a house - there will always be one available. One will come along sometime.

The solution is easy, if you are not upside on the car sell it and buy a cash car. That way you still have most of your savings and you still have a car to drive.

Sounds like what she wanted was for him to say, "Sure, keep the car debt and buy a house. Forget my plan." LOLOLOLOL HE'S DAVE RAMSEY! OF COURSE HE'S NOT GOING TO SAY THAT! Also, no land. In Oregon. Again, LOLOLOLOL (Pretty sure she's not paying off the car lol...)

She wanted to rationalize why she should purchase a home with car debt. Smh. No land being accessible is BS.

I love when people try to re-explain something they’ve convinced themselves is an intelligent financial decision, as if Dave hasn’t heard it all a thousand times over. Then they’re shocked when Dave says the same thing he’s told everyone else for 30 years. 😂

Sometimes I feel like Dave's advice is only catered to the people who are completely financially irresponsible. Eat rice and beans, drive a clunker, don't go out to eat, don't buy a house unless you have no other debt.

What's happening? The only thing Dave didn't do was draw it out for her. You have money to pay off your debt, INSTEAD of doing that she wants to buy a house? Here's a thought....give me the money, since she's sooooo confused give me the funds I'll find use for it!
