Well, the day has officially come. When I purchased my Commencal just 1 year ago, I wasn't sure how long it would reside in the bike stable. I've learned it's a beast of a machine and it can handle anything. However, all things must come to an end. Tell me your thoughts and where to ride next in the comments below!

Love the video and the details. Good job on your EWS Race! I have a Small Commencall Furious that I also mulleted. So glad I chose Small. Bike feels very balanced with 435mm Chainstay and 445mm reach. A 490 reach with a 435mm I have no doubt it feels unbalanced. I am Love'n my Furious and so glad I mulleted it. She rolls so much better through the Tech Sections now. BTW. I am using the same the same 27.5 Fox-40 Fork, I just bolted on a a 29er tire and set the Fork Length about 8mm longer. I have about 10mm of tire clearance between thr tire and brake archm. I measured the HTA and she is now at a super slack 62.5 Degrees.

Thank you 🙏🏼 And yes, I can certainly believe that people of smaller stature will have a great experience with Commencals. They’re incredibly solid bikes. But with current geometry fundamentals in the industry, it appears other brands may be better suited for taller riders or this with a particular riding style. Glad you’re loving it! I was certainly a huge fan of my mulleted clash. And that’s correct, switching from 27.5 to 29 raises the front about 20mm / resulting in approx -1 degree HA change.

Careful w the Bomber CR- check and make sure it’s rated for the stress. Fox issued a statement for their older versions at least saying that their coils were not compatible with the stresses these frames can put on the shock.

Exactly why I chose a norco sight, chain stays grow on larger sizes. 6.3” tall the longer rear helps centre and balanced feel on the bike. Test rode XL TR and AM. Way way to long front centre to the same chain stay on all sizes. Too modular. My boy runs a small meta and it’s awesome, just us tall folk not the best imo

So when i got my meta AM, 5'9" , the chart said Medium. I look at the reach, changed my order to a small. They were great with that. The small fits great to me. I got the little on Canyon, and after shipping and duties, add about another 25% to the cost.
@GlobalTrailGuide
@GlobalTrailGuide 2 жыл бұрын
It’s crazy to hear that someone 5’9” is on a small 😅 just like me on a large at over 6’3”. So glad Commencal is resolving that on their latest designs. Also want to note that Commencal has changed their size chart on the 2021+ Clash several times since it’s release - while they tried to help customers figure out what’s best for them. Originally they were even further off. And yeah, shipping and duties will vary based on location of course. For me in Italy, the VAT is included in the Canyon price of 2799€ and then only 50 bucks or so to ship.

@@GlobalTrailGuide good and good. For me, It came $730 extra to a young hero in the country! Commencal and Canyon have two different systems. Commencal has office/warehouse in BC, the other side of the country, so I only Paid $150 for shipping, and only federal tax. However for Canyon i had to pay federal tax, import duties and about $360 for shipping. Plus shipping fee Canyon charged. One day I do comparison on the buying experience.

@@nostr8ghtlinzs596 that’s a bummer for the Canyon products! Thanks for sharing your insights. It’s interesting to hear because in the US, Canyon will ship for a similar $150… then a possible state tax. Hey! I know it’s been a year since you posted, but a question : I rode my last bike with a reach of 460 (torque 2018) and it felt amazing to me! And I’m 1,88m. Now considering to buy a Clash, sizing says L but the reach of 490 seems a bit long! Really thinking about getting a size M clash with a reach of 465 and the wheelbase is also longer than my last bike. Maybe someone can help me, best reagards !
@GlobalTrailGuide
@GlobalTrailGuide 5 ай бұрын
Sounds to me like an M might do the trick for you. I also wouldn’t be surprised if a clash redesign is coming within the next year, Commencal has been shortening all of their reaches ever since they went too long on the clash. So maybe the next gen clash will be shorter (if you can wait) - hopefully there’s a next gen, 27.5 bikes are falling off.

@GlobalTrailGuide
@GlobalTrailGuide Жыл бұрын
Gosh, it’s so hard to help with sizing on this bike haha. But I was on a large and it was just a bit too small for my liking at 193cm. So I think you’ll be happy on it! If you have a bike currently, compare the reach numbers to help you decide
@msgesus4518
@msgesus4518 Жыл бұрын
Hmm if you are meant for the xl on the sizing charts maybe you should be on it. You say your over the back wheel, having the longer reach would negate that. I actually had to size up on the meta ht because the reach was too short on the medium, on the large it's 450 which is what I'd expect on the medium 🤯
@GlobalTrailGuide
@GlobalTrailGuide Жыл бұрын
I fall between L and XL on the clash (because of their questionable sizing tactics). But my primary point was that even if you make the reach longer, it will only exaggerate the super short chainstays… this isn’t as noticeable to riders who aren’t in the XL category. Commencal even recognized this problem they created and that’s why the Meta SX now has a shorter reach, but a longer chainstay than the clash.

@GlobalTrailGuide
@GlobalTrailGuide Жыл бұрын
Smack dab between sizes… I’d compare with the reach on your current bike and go from there. Maybe someone else that’s similar in size can chime in too. Of course, a smaller frame is more agile and playful feeling; while the larger frame would be more stable and planted. But once you get familiar with the bike, you probably wouldn’t notice anymore anyways

I looked up the geo on the clash and the torque after I watched this and their fairly similar on a size large. 490 reach on both, 434 chain stay on clash 435 on torque and the wheelbase is 10mm longer on torque. The numbers aren’t very different. IMO I’d keep the clash. I don’t think the difference in the geo is worth the downgrading to the spec on your torque
@GlobalTrailGuide
@GlobalTrailGuide 2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you might be looking at the 27.5 Torque?? Based on the chainstay length you mentioned. Carbon Torque geo is also slightly different than AL Torque. My XL Torque 29 AL is 510 reach and 441 chainstay. So geometry is quite a bit different than my Clash, plus full 29er. Whereas L Clash is 490 reach and 434 chainstay (like you said), or XL at 520 and 434 respectively. Regardless of size, my Torque is quite different than both, wheel size differences aside.

@@TheRexPerkins no problem! I’ve only ridden my Torque for about 20 min so far, but I can already tell that it fits like a glove and I am definitely more centered on the bike. Sorry for your loss bro. Commencal > Canyon. Also- you should be on an XL. I’m shorter than you and it’s a perfect fit. The slightly unbalanced thing is real- you have to put more weight on the bars- they are aggressive. Can be a negative if your terrain isn’t super aggressive. For most people a balanced approach is better for sure so I get that. Let the downvotes flow lol.
@GlobalTrailGuide
@GlobalTrailGuide 4 ай бұрын
As mentioned, the L is too short and the XL is too long. It’s a sizing problem. One that Commencal themselves recognized and has since corrected on all of their redesigns (shorter reaches and longer stays)

Everyone has different riding styles and preferences, that’s why we should be happy there are so many options available to us 🤘🏼 originally I got the clash to try out long travel 27.5, quickly realizing it wasn’t for me. Mullet significantly improved the bike and it became a speed machine. 29 up front was the right move for me! But overall I started to find other things about the bike I didn’t like, so I moved on.
