I think the white stuff is lime.

I think the old heavy industry is actually more interesting to look at, such as steel or metal works, abandoned coke and cement plants, dock gantry freight yards, etc. Can't quite pin point what it is about those places, but they can be great to photograph. Still a handful of them left, but not for much longer, I think.

All those old railway lines sidings were probably connected to the old docks for exporting from the UK .
