Jared being the voice of reason in the beginning is definitely what Shelley (and anyone) in that position needs. Such a calming and understanding but forward facing approach to the situation. I’ve had a few MRIs/CT scans and they’re not enjoyable at all so I feel for you there Shelley! But they’re such important in-depth scans you should be proud of overcoming your anxiety and accepting help from medication definitely isn’t easy to do :)!

I have had a few MRI and I found just closing my eyes before I go in and while in there until I felt comfortable, you haven't got to open your eyes. Jared is such a great support. Your anxious and that's totally normally. If your anxious about meds I wouldn't read up on the medication as they have to put worst case scenario on them and may make you more nervous. I have had that medication and it just made me chilled out X

With mine I had two valium, head phones with music and the button to stop the mri. It was awful! I could not walk into the center, was terrified, made it through the mri, tears streaming down my face. When it was over, I walked out of the mri room and passed out. Slept 48 hours! Never again!

I am also very sensitive to medications. I am on several for anxiety, depression etc, I am so scared to take new ones as I have really weird reactions. One thing that helps is to not read the warning or articles online, I know it’s tempting but I find getting someone else to read the side affect warning helps. I try to take the side affects one at at a time if the happen! I hope your ok!

I understand being claustrophobic! When I have to have them done, listen to music and also when they are putting you in, focus your eyes above your head (look up) to see the open space behind the machine. Definitely take the meds! Just for perspective as I know when I am talking about, I have had many mri and 35 surgeries during my life. The pups are so cute! Jacob and Max already takes amazing photos, so I can imagine their improvement after the fun classes! Love that Kylie took the class too! Glad Kylie is going for support! Happy you were able to get through it!! Hope you get some answers! The meds likely affected you more because you hadn't eaten before taking them! That food looks AMAZING!! Hope the water leak at Eli and Lacey's is getting fixed and glad you can stay with your parents!

It’s okay to be scared Shelly, I’m horrified of those machines too . I get claustrophobic too. 🙏🤗 They can order you meds if you need it before hand. Nothing shameful about having to take them. I've had to take two once a year for 10+ years. It's actually calming for me. I 💯% understand your anxious iness. It's the unknown answers that get me. That's weird that didn't let you wear your wedding ring. I asked a nurse and they said it's actually illegal to ask you to take it off

OMG Shelly, I know how you feel! I've had 5 MRI's in the past 2 years. My first one, I felt the same as you, I cried so much! When they told me I had to go for my second one I panicked. My doctor prescribed me some ativan to calm me down, and it made a huge difference. I took half of one to start because I was worried about the side effect, but then I took a full one 15 minutes before going in, it helped me a lot. For the next 3 MRI's I took the ativan. Hope you get well soon,

Aubrey, I have had several shih-tzu and shih-tzu mixes in my life plus all my various family members who also have had them so I can say from experience that my shih-tzu's have loved playing in the little baby swimming pools when they would get hot. Train the hair around the eyes and nose to lay away from their eyes and won't cause it to hurt or block their vision. Also, as soon as the hair on the top of their head is long enough start training it into a ponytail which also help to keep it out of the eyes. And NEVER allow anyone to cut or shave off any hair on their tail. Once it is cut it never grows back to what it was before. My original shih-tzu's tail was cut/shaved when she was 3 and when I lost her at 15 her hair length was 3" on one half and 6" on the other half. Comb them daily, work out any matts gently and immediately and be prepared for snorting due to the short, cute nose a shih-tzu has. O, and be aware shih-tzu's have a very strong stubborn streak and may be harder to train. Use small training treats if possible, mine loved it. My Yorkie/shih-tzu cross loves her bath and is very loving to me. A lot of what I said can also be applied to the Yorkie pup Addison has. Good luck girls and great job bathing your fur babies.

Hi guys! New subscriber here! I felt SO BAD for Shelly, not only because she was nervous about the MRI, but because of her claustrophobia. I not only have had my fair share of MRI's, but in 1990, I actually had to go in for surgery to have my bladder reconstructed, because it wasn't growing with the rest of my body, I was in the operating room for almost 14 hours! But I'm glad I had the surgery, because it saved my life, I was very sick up until the operation.

Shelly, yes pills can be scary, but you can always take half. And side affects are just a few things that people felt out of the millions of people who take it every day. Shelly, keep your eyes close and relax. The first time in the tube, it is normal to be anxious but you will be fine I promise! I have had 11 MRIs of my brain and a craniotomy. The first brain MRI was the hardest because of the unknown but then I realized I was not enclosed in completely and I thought, "I am happy it is me and not my child." It helped because then I was doing it for my child! Many hugs to you, it is okay to be afraid but know that you will be okay. Love you!! 🫂💕

I am sorry you are having a hard time "hugs" and prayers. I want to share with you how I get my MRI's over all the years. I will sit in my quiet space and watch a sermon and then prayer time. Once I start my imaging I take my mind out of the situation and think of a safe space for me it is gardening or what I can do with the kids once this is over. It is scary taking meds I agree it will make you tired, when it comes to emotionless it is more of a spaciness for me but wears off by the morning. Just know you got this and it's going to help find answers!!!! Go Strong Mama!!!.

Hey crazy middles and welcome new pups! I got my first pup of my own two years ago and I have to say the best decision I ever made was brushing her teeth every night! The vet say her teeth and gums are extremely healthy and I’ve noticed that she doesn’t have the typical dog breath! Definitely something to try with your new pups and see how they do! Thanks for sharing your MRI story! It’s definitely something that a lot of people fear, and I think it’s because there aren’t too many non-clinical videos about them. I wish there were videos from the patients’ point of view - with the patients’ words - to try to take away some of the mystery. The machine you get can make all the difference! I’ve lost count of how many brain MRIs I’ve had (all precautionary!), so my head is placed in a cage and then I get slid into the machine. The older ones are the worst! The ones from like 2017 to now are so much better! I hope your MRI helps your doctors properly diagnose what’s going on so they can get you on a treatment plan to ease that pain ASAP. Best wishes headed your way 🙂

Claustrophobia can come out of nowhere (seemingly). The anxiety of the tablets as well, tells me that you have a fear off losing control. People depend on you, so you want to be fully in control of your faculties. You are allowed to be vulnerable, you are allowed to be afraid; but Jared has your back Shelly, you’ll be okay. Think of what could be wrong, possibly even more scary; best to rule it out, or start treatment for whatever is going on. Your family loves and needs you xx

I suffer from anxiety too. The #1 thing that you shouldn’t do with anxiety is looking up your concerns on google. Google is filled with tons of misinformation that only adds to your anxiety. If you have concerns about medication, the best person you can call is the pharmacist. They will answer all your questions and can give more advice than your doctors when it comes to medication interactions and dosages. Personally I find that it’s best to start off small taking small doses, especially if your trying something new that can cause anxiety.

I love the way that Jared supports Shelly when she is very emotional. It reminds me of how my boyfriend is with me when I have an emotional break down.❤

I have back issues and have to go in for semi frequent MRIs. Last year I started getting claustrophobic so I thought going into the “open” MRI would be better. It wasn’t I still freaked out. Next MRI will have to be done under medication. I feel for you lady. You’re not alone.❤️

I'm proud of you for getting the MRI done Shelley! And I really appreciate that you're talking about your anxiety and talking about it so openly, it means a lot to keep those subjects up for conversation! I've had really bad anxiety about going to the dentist, and avoided it for the longest time which made me having to get several teeth pulled (I have really bad teeth, thanks to my dads dna...) and I was SOOO scared! I had to take medicine to even be able to go to the dentist. BUT, just as you Shelley, I made it through!

I understand, Shelly. I have to get regular MRIs due to a medical issue. I also am claustrophobic. Its a really bad combo. The meds to help you calm down are a great mental health tool. You’ll be okay and soon it’ll be an unhappy memory.

MRIs can be scary. I have gone through a few due to various serious medical conditions. And one thing that has always helped is soothing music. Have been fortunate enough to have very helpful assistants who have been very supportive and made it clear that they are there in case of any discomfort I may feel. And I am extremely claustrophobic

Shelly, I was diagnosed with IBS last year and to get diagnosed I had to go through a colonoscopy which with already feeling yucky because of my gut issues? Going through the prep so I could even have the procedure made me so anxious and overwhelmed as well. Know it’s not same thing but I pulled through and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. The medicine I had to take can make you nauseous but it only happens once briefly. So I get those feelings of having to do something that is uncomfortable to be able to get needed medical answers to know how to move forward. Praying that this MRI will give you some needed answers and so sorry that medications give you so much trouble.

Shelly, I'm 68 years young and go into a full blown panic over constriction and claustrophobia. I've refused every MRI and they cannot take my blood pressure either. The dentist and I have long talks about my phobias and believe me, I win every time or the work doesn't get done. When I recently had surgery, they couldn't take my BP until I was knocked out. Thank God the surgeon was very compassionate. I hope they don't find anything and it is just a temporary discomfort.

So glad you made through your MRI! I dislike them so much! It is the banging sounds that I can’t handle. They gave me silencing headphones last time, that helped. Puppy baths were adorable!

I had brain surgery to remove a cyst from my pituitary gland at 24 (almost 4 years ago now.) I hallucinated after a 'bad trip' on a narcotic, and I yelled at the nurses because I had told them before, and it was in my chart that I have family history (with problems) as well as my own intolerance of anything more than a 200mg pain killer. I ended up with a very low blood sugar and an extra day in the hospital because of it but the nurses listened to me after that. I have always been very careful and observant of my own health because I don't get to see a regular doctor a lot (and that is how it was growing up too) I actually noticed something strange going on with my eyesight which led to me having brain surgery. If I hadn't been vigilant about knowing my own body, I would have a cyst that was bigger and not detected for 20 years. It was also discovered that I have an underlying hormone disorder and may actually have an underlying eye problem (which may or may not be glaucoma) I have an anxiety disorder and asthma which is not a fun combination but working with my health team I got medicine that is a lot like Benadryl and works for me. I hope and pray Shelly you can find the same. I've actually fallen asleep in an MRI machine weirdly enough. They take some getting used to but relaxing your mind and body as much as possible before will help!

Claustrophobic too. Had to have an MRI years ago of my head to help diagnose constant vertigo problems. I asked for something to relax me since they said they couldn’t knock me out (I asked). I also had to have a cage thing over my face so I kept my eyes shut the entire time. Luckily I was able to listen to music during the procedure and the guy doing it had some really relaxing sound music.
