12:09 was so impressive!! I used to do tail slides when I skated more often before 2010. Just started skating again a couple years ago, and really got back into it this summer with my brother before I turned 39. My goal for 2024 is to get a solid tail slide (for me maybe more than a couple feet) I was able to get a mini few inch tail slide back on the 4th and “felt” the slide! Was so stoked, had been over a decade since so felt that feeling. This video gives me hope for at least a couple feet long slide!

13:50 Totally agree on that view of skating. I love the tinkering on the board with what the environment has to offer. I think looking into the "athletics" of skateboarding has been huge for my improvement on the board and I think helped expand how creative I can be. I started it up as a hobby almost 4 years ago while overweight and in the the last year I came to the conclusion that I want to improve, a lot, and I feel like I could; but my body wasn't catching up to how fast I was grasping the concepts on the board mentally. I've seen so much more on-board improvement by training my body off-board and the tinkering has been more fun because of it. I do look at the skatepark as like a gym and that it's for training, but I have so much fun in the gym jamming to music and improving, similarly to skateboarding, that I never don't have fun doing either; at least in the moment. Sometimes I do loathe getting ready and going to the gym or the park, but being there I almost usually have fun. Unless I get hurt-hurt lol. Guess what I'm trying to say is if your skateboarding and not having fun, maybe its not really skateboarding anymore.

Calling rails cheating is no different from calling wax cheating Edit : if skateboarding is about doing whatever you want and expressing yourself how is there even cheating

I am a beginner skater at 53 just learned ollie and I have to say, when I go for walks I look at everything much differently now that I skate, I look at stairs ledges, curbs and ask myself, is that skateable? to funny how your perceptions change as your obsessions change.

I recently revisited deck rails to learn the boardslide to feeble/hurricane/barley/etc type stuff. The way you have your rails set out wide is great for stability but not so great for combos. I think mine are set a bit more than an inch from the edge of the board which lets you cheat on the combos and just lean on your toes or heels and get into whatever. I think I've seen you do some of those combos without rails but it's definitely something worth experimenting with, you almost have to unlearn the hard way of doing those tricks. Tailslide heelflip was sick btw 👍

I'm going to teach you something about those rails the closer you put them towards the middle and less towards the edges the less drag you'll have the easier it is to pop off of shit. And it'll slide a lot better A lot of people like to put them right on the edge of the airport put them right on the underneath the inside of your wheels so there's less surface area the farther you spread them apart the more drag

man im happy to hear a populare youtube skater like you say that the "athletic sport culture" in skateboarding is taking a away from the root essence of what skateboarding is as a whole. I hear a lot of people buck back against that concept and say it's gatekeeping whatever whatever. but nah its just lame, skateboarding to me will always be about reinterpreting your surroundings to be skateable and fun. not about sports drinks, corporate sponsers, and tricks being tied to points on a board

it's interesting to see how bigger, wider boards (people out here saying 8.5" is skinny? lol) and rails have made a massive comeback, it's weird, i don't know where or when this happened but it's cool to see. I can only see it as a very large part of the skateboarding community are now in their late 30's and 40's and just straight chilling, curb skating slappies cruising etc is just a way to keep riding at our age and we're seeing that in board size/style trends. idk, i could be way off.
@lockm73806 ай бұрын
When i used to skate more than a decade ago the most common sizes were around 7.5-7.75 and 8 were very much outliers, anythinng above that was almost unheard off unless you skated pool or ramps. Nowadays 8 seems the minum people go for. For sure interesting to see the change or recurrence of trends.
