After a long time of thinking, I decided to go for the JLPT next December. Not for he N1 which I planned on taking. The decision was made after certain things happened which made me feel like there just is not enough job security. So passing the test next December is very important as it will open more doors for me in the future. I still really like teaching English in Japan, but only the teaching part.

Programming seems to be the best avenue for those wanting to move on from English teaching, possibly the only avenue from my research? Although you are married so I think you can do any job. Programming pays well so, best of luck to you! My plan is to learn Japanese as well as programming and both are from zero....in my 30s......I'm doomed.

Programming is the second most popular job for foreigners living in Japan. Learning Japanese to a level that you can talk does not take that long. Just requires lots of dedication. For programming watch Cs50 from Harvard, best free course you can find which will get you up and programming within a few hours 😊😉

Voylin's recommendation to start with Harvard's CS50 is good- and check out Launch School as an example of a 'bootcamp' that takes the right approach (very holistic/comprehensive). You'll have to learn to self-teach and get a fair bit under your belt before you can join a program like that, but plenty of people switch careers and start from zero in Programming (and Japanese!) in their 30s. Ganbarre!

So JLPT is really really important for Japan considering for JOB. Hmmm 🤔 How much JLPT hold compare to our background Education? I would like to know that.

Without a JLPT, they won't even consider you. Without correct education or experience, they won't even consider you. As long as you have a JLPT and did some kind of university, you'll be fine.

I've been working as an English teacher since I've arrived in Japan. As a foreigner with not enough Japanese, there aren't much other opportunities for jobs here 😅

@@VoylinsLife I see. You have mentioned that you are from Belgium, right? Do Japanese companies consider nonnative English speakers for teaching?
