Simmers: "We want an expansive game." EA, taking notes: "Expensive...Game."

They're chasing free-to-play monetization trends rather than trying to build a game that Simmers actually want. I don't think the people in charge of Project Rene understand what people like about the Sims.

I don't understand EA's obsession with online, multi-player games. They tried with the sims 4 and then quickly abandoned it, and now are doing Project Renee

The main reason they are hesitant to call it Sims 5 is it is likely NOT Sims 5. I have a feeling Project Renee is a Sims Online 2.0 instead, and players only allowed to control and customize ONE Sim / apartment per server / game. Microtransactions will be added regularly to expect the B&B and CAS catalog. Your Sim could continue online as NPC while you are not playing. At least that's my take.

The reason why most gamers don't enjoy EA is just how money hungry they are and also how well they can deflect and cover it up. I can tell the people working on sims have the passion but whoever is managing them most probably don't have that passion where they would just do anything thats trendy to make cash quick. Even most packs feels very rush just to get it out there

Watch them put the day/night cycle into an expansion

As an original simmer from Sims 1 up and til Sims 4 I totally agree with you, I miss the goofy, quirky crazy and questionable things we had in both Sims 1 and 2 also yeah the ads were cheesy and cringe and i always thought they were fun. my fave was the sims 2 when a sim goes loopy and a shrink has to come 'fix' him, and the social bunny as well the good old times of a sim dancing with a mop or wearing a lampshade etc..

Thet fact there's no Pool table in the sims 4 just proves your point, it's been an item in every game to this point and they still don't realize/care that we don't have one, we got a British pub for god sake and did it have a darts board or pool table in it? no ofcorse it didnt.

Even thinking about playing online with others fills me with anxiety and dread. It will be a big NOPE for me if that’s the case. At least give me the option to stay in my own little world please Sims 🤪

I don't understand why they think it's such a problem that simmers ask for better like less glitches and better animation. The Sims 4 reuses a lot of their animations for different objects which is why it's boring compared to the sims 2 & 3. They could easily save the franchise making that little change, yet instead they're trying to innovate and revolutionize the franchise into something that simmers DO NOT WANT. We want the game to FEEL like the sims, not a multiplayer game with a Sims filter. EA is like most corporations where they believe that ignoring what their audience wants will generate more income for them than just giving us our demands. Their hubris will catch up with them once the Sims 5 flops, and maybe then they will realize how little we asked of them for the franchise to survive.

I refused to buy the sims 4. (🏴‍☠️ if you know you know.) I told myself when it was fixed id dish out the cash. Haha. Yeah. Theres no way in hell I will pay for the sims 5 at this point. I also want to add- this legit just sounds like IMVU/second life vibes and Im not really about it. At all. Im hoping life by you and Paralives fill the hole for me that sims has left.

I'd hate a multiplayer world but I'd love a multiplayer OPTION, like being able to invite your friend's sims to your wedding or to stay a couple of days, kind of like you would a long distance friend in real life, and switching back to the classic offline experience once you disconnect.

You are right Satch. We don't want multiplayer. If we wanted multiplayer, we'd play a different game. EA has such a "hard on" for games as a service that they can't shake the temptation to turn the Sims into that kind of service. I'm not interested. I like what Paralives and Paradox have got cooking but I'm done with EA/Maxis. I know what they are like, they don't fix what they've got. It's a zero sum game. I know people want to stick with it for sentimentality, but you really shouldn't. Don't reward shonky business choices because that's what you'll get. EA are the worst for that. Their CEO is a real shark.

I think at this point I personally want the project to fail and have EA watch it burn. Sims needs to be left alone to rest. Too much time and money has been sunk into Sims 4 for me, and I will NOT start over with "Sims 5" And yes, EP's are $40 full price in the US ($19.99 on sale) Hearing your scenario of them possibly breaking down season ACTIVITIES to separate packs and upselling them would be a NIGHTMARE and the ultimate deal breaker for a lot of us.

Dude…you got me this morning with the no friends comment. I have 2 friends who don’t play the sims and don’t want to. Who am I multi playing with? Thing is companies keep looking for “new” in the wrong way. Greed and a lack of real customer-focused innovation. Even tougher to swallow when we already play their current game which is so glitchy that we just get use to resetting our characters all the time.

I'm having the feeling they are not moving forward with the technology. I thought Sims 4 would be way ahead compared to previous titels but instead it was multiple steps backwards. We had color wheel, we had landscape/world tools , cars, (20 freakin' years ago) We had a couple of amazing things in the past on freakin LOW-END Machines. We had amazing chemistry systems, interaction, communication and a ton of gameplay. It didn't feel repetitive. Sims 4 has some good features: It looks good, build/buy/cas tools are superior - no doubt! But hell! Let's be honest: It has so many cons and it really suffers regarding the features it used to have. In my humble opinion? Sims 4 is like a Ghost in a shell (nice but empty) and it runs barley on a high-end machine due to the lag and massive bugs. This game is not worth the 1.000+ (your currency) 😆Lookin' at the competitors now? I know why I was so disappointed with Sims 4. 😔The features the others are now implementing were the things I wanted Sims 4 to have. Here we are 10 yrs later - competitors work hard to make it real. Sims 4 stucks with Sims 5 / Project Rene (whatever that will be - a spin off? - who knows) and they have no clue how to move on and Lindsay seeks inspiration in Animal Crossing. For real? 😑😶‍🌫This is concerning! Geez, the community tells what it wants but EA is not interested in what we want. Even if this would be a spin-off? When would come the next title?🤔Luckily the competitors understand what we expect a Life-Simulation Game should have, and which freedom we desire to have back in order to be able to tell our stories, lores and whatever we wish to our liking...! What i appreciate about the upcoming competition is that all the projects look different, so everyone can pick and choose the style they like more (and i think they can all coexist in a same game library) I keep telling myself that I wont buy anything more from ea, im so done with them.

i’m over it honestly, i wasn’t really excited when it was announced and i’m not a fan of the backtracking & bush beating they’re doing on whether or not it will be a free to play heavily monetized game or not. i think it’s gonna blow up in their face like simcity. they’ll make money only because the game won’t function without spending it but it’ll no longer be considered THE life simulator and have majority of the market share. i think the sims died years ago and we just don’t wanna admit it.

if the sims 5/project Rene doesn't end up doing well at launch..or at all, then at least people will have other options, like: life by you, paralives and InZOI.

I have a suspicion that Grant was fired over the fact that the past year of Sims 4 releases have been an absolute flop, including many infamously broken packs culminating in an absolutely broken expansion pack and a buggy kit. It might affect Rene, but Grant deserved to be fired.

I think EA thinks they know what they are doing and what people want. Project Renee knows what children like. The excitement of talking with strangers online, the OVERLY silly faces that sims make when they screw up, the EASY ,shallow game play that they understand, etc. And of cause it's worth Paying real money for small returns.

I’m absolutely not going to play a sims game where we are restricted to an apartment. IRL it is most people’s dream to own their own house. An apartment is worse than my real life situation, I don’t need to role play that. The Sims 4 is a cute game, but just lacks so many things we were hoping for and really lacks value for the price of the packs (of which I still bought almost all of them) and now so many competitors are emerging into the space with fresh ideas… I don’t see this franchise holding on that much longer, and a terrible Sims 5 like this is just going to be the nail in the coffin. I have been playing since The Sims 1 and really wish they would have kept the game like The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 with more challenge to it and just upgraded the graphics and improved on what was already there because the gameplay was so much better.. and it didn’t cost $1000🙁

Fun fact from a software developer: many software companies are known to be terrible to work for (they will work you to the point of burnout and then some if they can) but the trade off is the pay is great so developers work for these companies despite the reputation. Game companies are known to have all that bad reputation but without the great salaries. I've never worked for EA so I can't say for certain their work culture is bad but I wouldn't be surprised if a developer there told me it was.

With Sims multiplayer, I think people would love the idea of playing with known entities in the same world. Like playing with their families and friends in a closed server or something akin to visiting each other’s islands in Animal Crossing New Horizons. But a massive multiplayer online experience I think is what most people are wary of and more people don’t want. There are people who want to place every tree in their world and have it be a Sims Utopia and there are people who live chaos and making their sims world as chaotic as possible. And what some fear is the strangleholds of those players sharing space and both being able to enjoy their gameplay time.

Sims 5 is merely the carrot on the stick that they can say "Look were onto something, in the meanwhile buy our other unfinished crap!"

I played and actually beta tested The Sims Online, that is where I met my husband, (we are still together and doing great, we are both geeks) it had potential, especially if you made some good friends there, I also play WOW, started that in 2/2005, microtransactions, player character boost ruins games, talking about wow, I still don't want to get too excited until it gets closer to release.

You can see it by the workplace of these Sims creators, it looks like a nursery...no atmosphere of the old Sims. We had storylines, eerie atmospheres, adult humour... It was a tongue in cheek adult game. And yes, Sims 4 is a loner's game.

I personally think a multiplayer sims game would be horrible and if that’s what they go with I’m not buying it. The sims for me is about building your own world, with your own characters, and your own storylines. I have no interest in being restricted to one building and forced to deal with other players.

I’m definitely not her for the multiplayer either, because people can be cruel and toxic online sometimes! I love to play The Sims to have peace of mind for my own self to be creative without anyone’s thought’s and opinions on how I like to play my game, I’m kinda a vanilla player in the sense that I don’t like to put too much custom content in my game, also the fact that there’s only one person I know who plays the Sims and they love a lot of mods and cc, and I don’t! You see how this could be a problem if we wanted to play together!

At this point I just wish they would remaster the Sims 2, all they care is about the $$$, and I do not want to play Sims with others, it's my Fantasy world not others.

Totally agree with the multi player thing. I do not play sims to socialise. I’m forced to socialise enough as is. Sims is my escape.

EA is not worried about triggered chronically online snowflakes, they’re worried about children. EA wants the game to be so PC so that younger and younger children will be allowed to play.

I'm not worried at all about sims 5 but simply because I'm not even the tiniest bit invested in another Sims iteration at this point. I suspect I'll be mildly curious if and when another one comes out but I'd have to be absolutely blown away by seeing actual gameplay by others to even consider it. However if it's multiplayer even that mild curiosity will evaporate.

I'm not a multiplayer person, I dont hate it and occasionally I enjoy it BUT that is very rare and it usually stresses me out quite a bit so if they made it simply multiplayer I wouldn't be playing it. They should do something like Genshin Impact where people can request to join your world or you can request to join a friend's world, if you have them lol, but it can still be solely YOUR world where you can turn off join requests and simply enjoy playing it on your own if you don't want the multiplayer aspect. I have to say I wouldn't hate the idea of being able to add friends in a friends list and have a in game chat where you can talk to each other through the game and share the chaotic things going on in your world lol similar, again, to how Genshin handled the multiplayer/friends aspect while still keeping people who prefer to play alone happy.

I'm not worried at all about The Sims 5 or Project Microtransactions or however they want to name it, because I have no plans of having it. Waiting for Paralives next year and hopefully LBY this year.

Them reasons you stated in the game is why I am heavy consider buying Life By You and Paralives when they come out. Hopefully people in EA will wake up before it to late. But I doubt that. Just hope it don't ruin the franchise but it might.

Honestly, I haven't much thought about Sims 5 anymore since I've been more interested in Paralives and Life By You. They lost me almost completely with Sims 4 and it's only almost because I promised myself I'd play the base game once The Sims 4 ends to give it one more chance. I'm fine sticking with Sims 2 and 3 and letting The Sims franchise end there for me. I'd have to see some major changes with Sims 5, with EA/Maxis, and I'd even go as far as saying the Sims community to consider supporting any furute Sims titles (except maybe MySims Agents 2).

At this point I'm only waiting for InZOI cause I know Sims 5 is gonna disappoint

Tbh I don't care if it will be Sims 5 or a mobile multiplayer Trashgame. In the end it will be cashgrabby stupid buggy soulless trash no matter what. They still produce cashgrabby lazy buggy soulless DLCs for the Sims 4 which shows that they didn't change their attitude or whatever. I'm 100% sure this will be the end of the Sims franchise. They killed Sim City, they killed C&C, they killed hundrets of games and studios and now they kill The Sims. But there are a lot of alternatives on the way, so who cares.

I honestly would love a VR online multiplayer version of The Sims. I know that people say 'just play VRChat', but I would honestly love to be able to invite friends over to my house from across the world and do things like go out and do things with them rather than just talking online and gaming together.

I wouldn’t mind a multiplayer aspect BUT I wouldn’t want that to be the main thing. I think it’d be so cool for your sim to be able to teleport to your friends sims house and interact with your friends sims. But I’d like that to not be the main focus. I agree that sims should stay the sims and have a separate option in the game for the multiplayer part

Did they officially call project Rene the sims 5 or is it just speculation??? I feel like just like how the dlc for sims vs the trailer look totally different I’m pretty sure “project Rene “ isn’t really what y’all think it is.

I interviewed with EA a while ago and the hiring manager and everything I heard about the team and company was an utter mess. The hiring manager seemed like she was going to have a mental breakdown but also like she caused mental breakdowns to her employees who kept leaving. The role was even openly described as “putting out fires all day” during the interviews. When I declined to move forward in the interview process they practically begged me to give it another try which is highly unusual for famous companies.

The broke up a ton of packs from TS3 to create a ton of packs for TS4 for more money. I wouldn’t be surprised if they broke up TS4 packs for even MORE money

One thing that I wish they would bring back is the ability to play a storyline. I used to love that about the original few Sims games. I liked starting at mom's house and then completing certain things to unlock new locations and items within the game. I don't feel as connected to The Sims anymore because it's officially turned into "Sandbox" mode. And I don't mind playing that sometimes but most of the time I want a Storyline to complete. That made it a better experience. I will be glad with they FINALLY release a trailer for the new game because they are leaving us soo confused and fearful of what they are creating lol

I think you have to be critical to show you care about where a series is heading, and from what we've seen pack wise Sims 5 is not looking too promising.

I doubt that Grant Rodeik leaving has anything to do with creative differences. It's probably because of money. People seemed to have forgotten that he left EA already during the end of the sims 3 era, along with rod, and left the game with a bunch of broken dlcs... only to return to EA for the sims 4 and say that if people didn't buy ts4 there would be no ts5 instead of addressing the real state that they released the game... This guy doesn't care about The Sims legacy, or even in delivering a good game. Him leaving project Rene will only be a bad thing if they actually manage to hire someone who cares less about the franchise, if they do... EA deserves the failure.

I enjoy thé sims 4 but i recently started playing sims 3 again which I really love. I think when sims 5 comes out I’ll get the base game just to check it out but I don’t see myself investing the time and money in it that I have with sims 3 and 4. I’ve lost a lot of faith in the teams with the constant bugs and issues in the sims 4

I have friends, but I don't want to have to play with them. I've played since the first Sims, and this isn't the game for this online model they're trying to push on us. EA, you are not going to get a GTA-style cash cow here. The Sims 5 should be the best version of the Sims so far where they learn from their many, many mistakes and give people what they've been screaming for. That's their cash cow. If the Sims 5 takes the chaos and rich gameplay of the Sims 1 & 2, Sims 3 open world & design tools, and the Sims 4 build & buy mode with pretty graphics, we'd gladly give them our money. I loved SimCity, and they killed it accidentally in the stupidest way possible, let's hope they don't make the same mistake.

Good thing there will be alternatives this time around. Paralives and Life by You both look good.

Banger video. The primary reason I've been enjoying sims 4 for the past several years is because of the various mods that add the chaotic and fun flavors of sims 1-3 that I grew up on. I essentially had to make my own preferred version of the sims 4 in that way. "Naughty and fun" is a perfect quick descriptor of what the large majority of players actually want.

sims 2 was the game your parents didn't want you playing for being too adult. sims 4 is the game your safe edgy aunt swears is the same thing but your parents just see playdough dolls moving around the screen.

I am new on this channel - I was away from Sims for over 5 years and didn't play Sims 4 much for all the reasons you mentioned, even before that.... I was soo disappointed when it first came out. I have been playing Sims since The Sims first came out - loved the first 3, maybe 2 the best, because I played my families/Sims the longest - I wasn't too keen on the graphics (characters) with the 'moonfaces', but it didn't matter so much because gameplay was fun. I won't even begin on Sims 4, because you said it all - and thank you for not being scared of stating the truth - before I used to only watch LGR, and I love the fact that he has always been honest. Same with you. In any case - Project Rene - well, at first I was excited about it - one can always hope - but I have the same fears as you, and already one can obviously not build one's own house - that's already a bummer. Maybe I'll just hope that they actually get down to fixing the thousands of bugs in Sims 4, at least - but that won't fix the lacking gameplay. Which game was it that had a lady that randomly attacked you in the street with her handbag? Things like that - all the little things that made each game day a different experience. But I digress.... The other games coming out actually look much more interesting. I think EA will lose this one.

I'll be honest. I have played more sims 3 in 2013/2014 and 2023 than I played sims 4 from 2014 - 2024. No joke. I couldn't even play sims 3 for a decade straight cause my macbook said no. I downloaded sims 3 last week. That says alot about how enjoyable sims 4 is. And the only reason I sticked with sims 4 for so long, was cause it was the only sims game running on my computer. So Sims 5 will prolly just not be it for me either, but this time I ain't even gonna waste the money.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s free access that gives u an apartment and everything is multiplayer outside of that and for 40 bucks u can get houses and a neighbourhood and then for a game pack price get seasonal activities per season then we might get a transport pack for 40 but that actually is just rabbit holes to get to the town center again

I hate the idea of sims online 2.0. It's not fun for me at all and obviously I'm not alone. It's honestly their first attempt that lead to Sims 4 being the way it is.

Honestly EA lost me years ago. Their desktop app sucks balls and I WILL NEVER give them money for another sims game outside of steam. TS5 can't even disappoint me anymore because I expect it to follow the trajectory of The Sims franchise of being unplayable yet extortionately expensive.

100% Project Rene is not the Sims 5. It's going to be a free to play exclusively online life sim game, probably something like Second Life.

I still need to watch the video but after knowing paralives and life by you will exist I'm not giving EA anymore money! They have no customer service , and I'm really not keen on the fact it will be multiplayer. Not to mention how bad the sims 4 has been

5:00 The way you describe this is also pretty much the PS3 PS Live experience where you had a custom apartment you and friends could visit and voice chat in, messing around with things you won in events on the live. It's also where they demo'd the Infamous Carnival of Blood DLC by turning everyone in the main areas into vamps who went ham at each other. It was free, unless you bought the fancy mansions.

I know I sound dramatic but this literally makes me feel like crying. I’ve been playing the sims since I was maybe 5/6, my uncle showed it to me on his Xbox… I’ve been obsessed ever since, even got my 5 year old daughter into playing it in her Xbox now… my 2 and 1 year old like to watch me play. So it really sucks seeing it possibly die like this.

I really want multiplayer . But I imagined it to be more like for rent, where everyone has their own apartment but you can visit each other or live in the same house. Where the multiplayer is limited to one property. Just like it's been possible on the Playstation since Sims 2!

8:30 Yeah, CC is why I didn't get the castle kit. I've already got CC for that. Same with the other kits. The only kits I have, I got when they were free for a limited time. I usually only buy a pack for gameplay purposes and the occasional item. Sometimes, it's because a piece of CC I want requires a pack. But most of my use of TS4 involves CC rather than EA stuff. I haven't played vanilla in years.

I'm waiting for the new life sims games to come out. Very excited for these.

Multiplayer doesnt really fit into SIMS. One of the major game plays of sims is woohoo and death. We all know what happens in multi player games, people use it as a hook up site and all the creepers come out. I dont know how they would regulate this, I can only imagine the problems that will arise from this alone. IMO if they go in this direction it will be the end of the SIMS as we know it.

I agree that they killed Sim City with bad decisions, but I also believe that they could easily resurrect the game if they wanted, showing in practice that they can return to their origins and renew themselves at the same time. Maxis is a studio that has a lot of creativity, but it is always pruned by EA, which only thinks about short-term results, and money obviously. But I believe they really lost interest in city simulators, which I think are less popular than The Sims. They made terrible choices in The Sims 4 base, but they have all the cards in their hands (financial resources and creativity) to renew themselves and show in practice that they can redeem themselves and create something very good in The Sims 5. But again, it depends a lot on what the bosses want and if online microtransaction resources are "obligations from above", can these elements screw up creativity, you know? We just have to wait and see, if at least maxis can find a middle ground, and at least be able to deliver the content in the appropriate time to be well done, well polished, well resourced.
