Brandi don’t beat yourself up Sister..I’m glad you took our warnings ,information to heart and researched for yourself..Also watch apple cores and garlic..I am 59 years old and I can remember giving our dogs growing up all of these things..We used to give our hunting dogs, pet dogs a clove of garlic a day to ward of fleas & ticks ..Weird thing is these dogs lived longer than dogs today..We even had two dogs eat two chocolate cakes..Chocolate also can hurt them but just like the grapes and the dogs size etc..Luckily we always had huge fur babies..I have raised many dogs, cats, birds, many many critters exotic and average pets, and a few farm animals..I’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way…Not intentionally..We know yinz love and care for your pets as if they are your children…It’s awesome to have some many friends to help along the way..I truly wish I had so many caring friends to guide me along my journey…Sending positive energy blessings and prayers from Pittsburgh PA.💛🖤💛Blessed be..

@lorimiller3375 on garlic it depends on the breed of the pups on garlic because mine was a celebrity cotti Tori farm pup and she could have garlic because it helped her with the fleas and ticks and helped her out on drinking water

Please be careful walking on the ponds or anywhere that looks frozen.. the ice might not be thick enough to hold up under them playing on it and jumping on it.. I never knew until recently that grapes are toxic to animals either.. I knew not to give chocolate to the dogs.. I’m glad Gunner is ok..

Agree. It takes longer than one night of below freezing to freeze a pond thick enough to be safe. Plus snow can hide weak spots.

Everyone can clearly see you are not a horrible pet mama!!! It’s so obvious you love all your animals. My daughter was the equivalent of a doggy PA & she’s always telling us don’t love your pets with food. They make their dogs food with cooked beef or chicken, rice & veggies like carrots. We learned the hard way overweight “food loved” animals are not healthy. If I ever get another dog, I’ll make their food like my daughter. And I’ll never have another overweight dog again. The health issues were painful to see. I loved seeing the girls on the pond!!! Country girls have the most fun!!! Blessings, debby

Brandi, when my son was about 12 yrs old we had a small dog and he fed him some chocolate and I noticed the dog was sick so I took it to the vet and so thankful that the dog lived. But, knowing now we never give an animal chocolate. Also, my cat would get into my coffee and I found out that caffeine is not good for animals either so I watch my drinks so that the cats do not get into them. We learn something new everyday, that is part of life.

Brandi, I can totally relate. I’ve raised dogs my whole life, for the most part large dogs (Labs, German Shepherd, Husky’s, Dalmatian’s). We have ALWAYS fed our babies what ever we ate, until about 5 years ago. I purchased a AKC Chocolate Labrador after losing my Shepard to Bloat. I’m a retired widow and my son is grown. So to say the least Remington is my baby. When we brought him home we found out he had a really bad case of hook worms and it was a struggle for weeks to get him healthy. During this time in an effort to get him to eat and gain weight I started researching foods for him to eat. I was mind blown at the foods they were saying were dangerous or fatal to feed dogs. Foods we had always been feeding our dogs (grapes, raisins, onions, chocolate). Our last lab was 16 years old when she passed and she could eat more chocolate than any adult I ever met, it was her favorite treat and now I was reading it was fatal to feed dogs any chocolate. 😮. So yes I do research every thing I feed my babies now! But I can definitely relate at how things have changed in what we can feed our pets. So please don’t beat your self up. Gunner is safe and you now know 🐾❤️🐾

Brandi, years ago(early 80's) we had a dog named Bear, that dog ate anything and everything he could find. Our neighbors grew all kinds of things, Bear always helped himself to the garden goodies. I'm not sure when we realized that some fruits and veggies were bad for our fur babies but they never had any issues. In the early 90's (new life path) I had a golden retriever/husky named Sadie, Sadie loved Hershey chocolate bars, back then they were marked with 8 squares per bar and she wouldn't walk away until she knew she actually got all 8 pieces. We never knew chocolate was bad for her and neither did she... she also ate whatever we ate, including grapes...we had her for 14 years until she just got old and tired. What a great dog she was with my kids and everyone...I sure miss her still after almost 20 years of being gone. We know you weren't trying to harm Gunner, it's really amazing how many people DON'T know about toxic foods for pets, I'm still learning new things.

Hi Brandi. I knew about the grapes but I said nothing. I thought for such a big dog it would take a lot to do any harm. I should have said something. There are several things out there that can hurt a dog. I loved watching the girls on the ice. It brings back memories with my brothers and sisters. You take very good care of your animals so never think you are bad at it. We learn as we go along in life. Stay warm. 😊❤

Brandi, please know that you and your family are good people and you are very responsible Homesteaders. You are raising a few pets and a lot of farm stock. Most people that comment raise little house dogs that go out on a leash only. Some foods are harmful but not everything is going to kill a dog that people say that it is. I had a big black Lab that went into my Mom's house years ago and ate a three layer chocolate cake and lived to be an old guy. No one in their right mind thinks that you would hurt an animal. You are loved and cared for.

Gunner was trying to be helpful and spread the straw.😅 I've never heard the grape/raisin thing either. My roomate had a bigger dog that used to steal a few grapes from her toddler and peel them. It liked the juicy inside but not the skin and would very delicately peel the skin and drop it to the side. We didn't want it stealing food from the toddler, so we broke it of that habit. I'm glad Gunner was OK and thanks for sharing the grape knowledge.

You love your animals as much as the rest of us love ours. I just want you to be informed. You are wonderful pet owners. My vet just lectured me about my service dog’s diet. I’m making changes. It hurts our hearts because our fur babies are part of the family. We all make mistakes, but that’s part of life.
