if you lay linoleum flooring on the floor, it makes it easier to clean out the coop and not get wood floor nasty from poop. you can lay shavings over it. what a nice chicken coop. it's a palace.
@ramonmacias90135 ай бұрын
I,was gonna suggest this or coating the floor with something like a rubberized mat.

I was gonna suggest that too. That’s what we’ve done 😊

I was going to suggest the same thing.😊 I have a roll I'm putting into mine in spring.

I LOVE your coop! Yall did amazing! ❤ Maybe a thick tree limb with a few pertruding limbs would would work well mounted vertically for space for the turkeys since they like to perch high at night. I adore your family and channel. I have really been enjoying the content you have been putting out.❤

Lay cheap linoleum on the floor. It will be easier to clean out and also protect the floor from rotting and stinking.

If you lay vinyl down on the floor it help clean up the floor easier & helps keep it dryer so it doesn't collect the smells!! Great Job, Girls!!!

The benefit of sand versus shavings is that sand can be scooped and doesn't absorb the moisture so you don't have to worry about parasites as much or flies or maggots it won't need completely cleaned out if it's scooped often enough

Hadley, you and Hope did a super job moving the bird herd!👏🏼

Looks great! Should have put flooring down. Makes it so much easier to clean. Poop on wood is harder to scrape off. My coop is about the same size. We also insulated and put up plywood walls painted.

A solar powered attic fan might be a good idea for the hot or humid weather seasons.

To make cleaning easier and saving the floor, put a piece of linoleum first.

When the 2x4 board for the roost are flat instead of sideways, the chickens can crunch down when it's cold and keep their feet warm. Just an idea.

Maybe add greek yogurt or an egg to gunners food.
@kellybowman57465 ай бұрын
I agree with the flooring as far as putting something down to make it easier to clean and protect the floor to last longer. Maybe linoleum or rubber mats like Cog Hill put in the barn stalls under the shavings. Any way to put the roosting area on hinges so you could lift them to get under there to spread stuff and clean? I said that before it was all spread around, so maybe it won’t be too bad. I can forget my thoughts by the end of videos so i have to write while it’s fresh in my mind. I love watching all these channels adding to their homesteads/farms. I am living vicariously through all of you. The coop looks great!

EDITED: I commented before I read any comments. At least most of us think alike. 😂 Brandy, Dutch & girls, 🥚Coop is nice. Great teamwork family! 😊 🐓 Coop Flooring Tip: 🐔 To help save your floor boards in the coop you might want to get a few sheets of inexpensive laminate/vinyl floor covering from the remnant section of your local floor store, hardware store, warehouse, resell or thrift store, Big Lots, Ollies, etc. If you get enough you might want to take the laminate/vinyl up about 1'-4' up the walls also. Then run a bead of sealant around the edges to help make it more water resistant for if you decide to deep clean it with some water in the future.
@christinastewart98305 ай бұрын
WOW! I thought you'd keep the turkeys and the duck somewhere else. I mean, the turkeys are HUGE! The duck needs water, so I thought she and the turkeys could share one of the remaining pens. 🤷🏻♀️ Just a thought.😁 So exciting! That coop is so cool!!! Love the nesting box. Looks similar to Jason and Brooke's on Cog Hill Farm. I love how everybody pitched in to get them all moved. Hadley just grabbed Tucker, and away she went! Then I guess Big Mamma is a bit heavier than Tucker cause Hadley was struggling with her! Hadley is amazing! She just gets in there and gets it done. With out screaming!You too Brandi, screaming!😂 Those girls are too much fun! ❤ Awesome video. God bless.😊❤ Queston: How long are they going to stay inside without going out? I know they have to stay locked in there to get to know that that's where they go to roost at night. Just wonderin. 🤷🏻♀️😁

@user-nt8lj1rx4h5 ай бұрын
I know you are getting many suggestions for the coop. So I had to add my opinions. If you put vinyl flooring down on the wood and use small mixed gravel/septic tank grade it will be easy to sift and clean up the chicken poop without a mess.also if you were to put in a shelf of luan/plywood below the perches that the chickens sleep on then cover with vinyl clean up is easy. It will also keep the FLYS down to a minimum during the hot months.

I don't know if anyone suggested a "hack", to make cleaning the chicken house easy with the huge roost, the part that is mounted to the wall, use bolts w/washers were its mounted so it can be lifted above head & secured to walk under & clean or remove it all together & reinstall, the chicken house is amazing thank you & your family for the great content. I been watching along time thru your husbands channel & now I'm subscribed to you, thanks alot for all ya'll contribute.

We used flattened cardboard boxes over lanolin and under bedding for our chicken houses…..a boot tray under the watering can will help keep the bedding dry ……when it’s time to completely clean it out ….we just took the cardboard out, hosed out the building….and started over…..easy to maintain and sanitize. If you get some sort of disease it is MUCH easier to sanitize.

Having the wide part of the roosting bar face up would be more comfortable for your chickens and in the winter keep their feet flat and completely tucked under them to prevent frost bite. A piece of sheet vinyl under the bedding would make it easier to clean the floor and preserve the wood sheeting. Very nice coop!

“In a multitude of counselors there is wisdom” the ‘ayes’ have it for putting down vinyl flooring or something over the plywood flooring to keep down bugs, deterioration & odor. Probably one of the least expensive items in the build so far. Good luck and finding some and getting it down to preserve your lovely Cackle Castle 😘

I see many have suggested linoleum for the floor, it does keep the poop from soaking into the wood, so less smell. I have also seen a few people take a tarp hook it to the wall behind the roost and hook it under the bottom roosting bar. Being that is where most of the poop will be. Then they just unhook it, fold the tarp, drag it out, empty it and hose it off. (Some have two tarps so while one is drying the other is in use). PS if an Ollies near you they often have linoleum remnants at a good price, especially if color or pattern is not an issue.

Nice coop! Have you thought of using a treadle-type feeder (Grandpa’s Feeder) that eliminates spillage and discourages rodents? Training chickens to use it is pretty simple. And a nipple drinker (Premier1) helps keep the coop dry and can be cooled with ice in summer or plugged in to prevent freezing in winter. Happy chickens! They will love their new home! 😊

I read that if you put the roosting boards wide side up, it gives the chickens room to spread out their feet and set fully covering them, which keeps their feet warm in cold weather. They actually feel safer with the wider space to stand on and balance more easily as well. Who knew?

Hadley and Hope are the chicken wranglers for sure! Great job done by all 3 though. While others talk about your flooring, I would suggest putting block wooding over the screen edges. The staples aren't going to stop a predator from coming through. Overall, Sean, very nice luxury coop you built for the ladies!
@leonastreva40495 ай бұрын
We have a smaller version of your coop. Be aware, the chickens on the top rungs may have issues jumping down because of the short landing area. They (ours too) don't jump down like the kids would, they try to glide down with not really enough room. They got used to it in time but was a real issue for them for several months. Looks great in there (we have 13 hens and 3 roos).
