hi I have a question since this is easy to make with wood (I am a carpenter myself). Aren't you afraid that someone other than yourself will release this as a game? I'm also going to make one for my nephews and nieces but here in the Netherlands and I can already see the question coming 😅🤣 👍 keep it up nice to play in small . now the big version

Puzzles and toys are great but I only print useful things anymore such as repair parts and tooling like your jig. I would like items such as these but you only think of them when needed. Maybe some connections for shelves or anything for organizing. Maybe gather ideas from your subs? I love useful prints and need ideas. Thank you.

I have learned a lot; You give a great example of using 3d printer to make tools for your projects. I have two suggestions: - Could you try using wood insert nuts with bolts instead of wood screws? this might make each part more durable and rigid. - Could you get a CNC router, and write a program to cut down wood blocks that you would fasten with bolts & wood inserts to the bed, to, say 35mm? It still will take a lot of time taking parts in and out, but it would likely solve issues with curved blocks and the tolerances.

I would love to play this game, if you can figure out how to streamline the building process I could see many bars/breweries buying this giant version. Was there 42 leaves?
@Benoit-Pierre
@Benoit-Pierre 2 жыл бұрын
Concrete would have worked. If worried about strength, you can reinforce using plastic fibers (sold separately ). Also to make it light you can use 80% polystyrene balls (either sold separately, or as ready to use mixture usually with fibers included ). Just let it dry 2 weeks for 90% strength. (3 weeks for 95% is time loss ).

Really fun to see. One remark though: this large version, made out of wood, might be less suited cor kids as it makes a high build AND the falling pieces might be heavy and a bit dangerous when there are a lot.

Suggestion: More of a question really; I wonder if a CNC Foam Cutter could make these parts? I guess the foam would need a coating to make it durable enough. Also; I wonder if a Vacuum Former could make 2 parts that would fit together to create the shape?

I think it would be cool to have more kinds of base trunks. The original is oak, another could be a pine trunk that has more sticky-outy bits on the sides, one like that savannah tree that looks like the roots are on the top, a birch with a super thin trunk and maybe a mangrove with roots like stilts.

Start with a 4x4, then plane and cut it in half. It'll take quite a bit of saw time, but everything'll be square. You can also make your own lumber from landscape timber if you want it cheap.
@ShopTherapy623
@ShopTherapy623 2 жыл бұрын
My first thought was just to cut the whole thing out on the table saw. First cut the piece to the exact dimensions, and then cut the dados/groves out. Would give you a nicer looking piece and should be a little stronger too

It's awesome! I would love to play this game and I've always hoped that someone should do it this big. Even better that you yourself got to it and made it so great. You asked for advice, so because I am very much an expert on account of me following exactly two woodworking channels here on the Tubes: If you have access to a drillpress, I think dowels should give you the strength in the leaves. Obviously a lot of holes, but one jig and then a lot of repetions and probably a fraction easier and cheaper than if you were to use all screws. Maybe just the endpieces (because the sides have the grain parallel and are also probably not getting the same amount of twisting forces?) (Also, didn't you at one point have a CNC-router? Because you could probably route some cool designs in the sides of the trunk.)

I definitely thought this too, but I think he avoided trueing them so he didn't end up with really thin pieces. Still, having consistent tolerances would have helped the project be easier and more predictable, so it probably would have been better to just design for thinner strips from the beginning.
