This week we revisit a job that was done a while ago. The sump I installed in my early videos had to be re-done. I was unaware that bay window motors sit lower than split bus engines. We do this one on my time and my dime. But I'd rather do it right! Sit back, relax, and watch a dude swap a sump. #volkswagen #vwbus #diyautorepair #update #letsgo #oil

Maybe if possible,next time you get an opportunity. Rebuild an engine in your specs . Best heads ,cam,not overly expensive. Just a reliable solid foundation engine . That does not break the bank . Great work as always

Stuff typically only comes apart one way, and goes back together one way. Everything is a learning experience. Just start wrenching and doing your own repairs. Can't tell you how many thousands of dollars I've saved over the years working on my own stuff.

@@simonnunn3367 I semi fixed the window to roll up & I enjoyed taking apart my speedometer and found out it’s the cable that broke so I ordered a new cable 👍🏼👍🏼

Not sure that small of a gap isn't restricting the flow of oil into the pickup. Have you ever looked at the gap from the stock wirebasket filter base and the bottom of the pickup tube? It would be easy to check with a slit case. I'd bet that it's a fair bit more than an 1/8".

Extra oil on demand. When you modify a VW engine it revs faster. A standard case only holds 2.75 qts. The addition of a 2qt sump increases the capacity significantly. No possibility of oil starvation on a single rev if oil level is proper. Also helps with cooling the oil. Additional oil means you’re not over working that 2.75qts. Thanks for watching. 👊🏽

George - I pulled the same sump off my lowered bay. Thanks for recommending a better sump for this set up. Question: do you recommend a sump when a full flow system is in place? Thanks!

I always recommend a sump on any engine. Full Flow just adds a filter and possibly a cooler to the mix. But oil on demand is what a sump Offers.

Also, was wondering g what size your engine is. I have a Split van too, with a Bay 1600 engine in it. The engine needs a top end rebuild, I suspect the rings are gone - and have been considering a 1776 engine. What would you recommend? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have a 2332cc engine. I’d recommend larger than a 1776 If you can afford it. Good heads are your best investment. A proper cam for your needs is a must. I like the FK7 for buses.
