I recently finished making a pair of "Downton Abbey" inspired 1920's shoes by hand! Join me on the daunting, fun, and at times terrifying journey! Making these Downton Abbey, 1920's shoes by hand involved:
*Finding a historical inspiration shoe to model from
*Finding and building up a 1920's shaped shoe last to fit me
*Making the 1920's shoe pattern
*Stitching the uppers
*Carving wooden high heels
*Lasting the shoes
*And much more!
I will also share a horrific incident that happened during the hand making of these "Downton Abbey" shoes, and how (or if!) I was able to fix it!
Would you ever try making historical shoes, or any shoes at all? Watch the video, and then tell me what you think below!

i love this type of heel. it's very stable and comfortable to walk in. if i could find like 3 pairs of these, i would ditch the flat doll shoes that have been affecting my back. this is beautiful work. thank you for sharing the mistakes too. crafting takes a lot of repetition so that you finally feel satisfied with the craft. beautiful👏👏👏

Amazing, I love the shape of these shoes. I always wear a similar type shoe for work as the heal is comfortable but as with modern times, the front has a slight platform to it. My grandfather used to make shoes like this as a shoemaker in the village he was from in Cyprus. I never met him, but my mum would tell me stories of being in his shop helping him. My mum showed me how they made ‘shoe glue’ 😂 when I was little and we used it for crafts. From memory I think it was flour, water, lemon juice and salt, but I don’t remember the quantities. She would then cook it on the stove until it became very opaque and the same consistency of what you were using. I remember the satisfaction on my mums face ‘ shoe glue!!’ she would announce when it was done lol

Definitely feel your frustration when shoemaking goes wrong! My first pair of shoes went on almost perfectly, that is .. until I took it off the last and tried it on: it was way too big for me to wear 😂

Thank you for sharing your process for making these exquisite shoes. I’m looking forward to reading your blog. And thank you for your honesty. Sometimes the best lessons are the most painful ones. Your color matching is masterful, and clearly they part of the process was Gray Kitty Approved.

I thought I my head! Looking at a box of shoes I have that are destroyed on uppers and heels, but the soles AWESOME and fit my arches, or lack of, and are not made anymore. And I wondered if I could do this myself.. and here you are... I didn't even speak it out loud,. Same happened with your hair video. I commented same.. just a THOUGHT.. ANYWAY. I LEFT A COUPLE PAIR IN MY CAR WHEN IT WAS VERY HOT, AND DIDNT FIND TILL IT GOT VERY COLD. so they've fallen apart. But the soles are still. Perfect. And I wondered!!! In my head, if I can find a way to recreate the shoes. The style fits. I'm a dancer and I buy my shoes for that.. the perfect hieght and sole that doesn't stick as so many are rubber now.. not leather or poly. 2 to 4 inch heels. These two happen to be from "MUDD" AND are not a tight pointed toe or tight pointed extended .. So this video popping up ... Tells me.. YES,, YOU CAN! I HAVE A moccasin ship that sells leather scraps.. they are different thicknesses, types, and I used a thick one to resolve my moccasins.. ( grounding, I'd I'm not barefoot, I wear leather soles shoes. Old ones because they are hard to find. Even reservation products lately are using a rubber sole.. which I ripped off this pair of moccasins.. to put new leather sole. ( Honestly, I'm very surprised indigenous shoes have rubber soles) grounding is prevented through runner)

Yes for sure! It is called a post bed sewing machine. I am in Canada and so ordered one from a Canadian supplier. The brand and model of my post bed machine is an Adler 888, but there are less expensive versions of post bed sewing machines, like the Consew or Artisan brands. Hope this helps ❤

They look lovely on you and I love your comments at the end about its fit. I have a question about foot size, I tend to wear wide women modern shoes, is this anywhere close to yours? Finding pretty shoes that fit is pretty darn hard and have wanted to make my own but most people that have videos have regular or narrow feet.
@KatherineSewing
@KatherineSewing Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment! 💕 My feet are about a 9C in women's modern shoe sizes- on the wider and larger side! The great thing about shoemaking is that you can completely customize the size of your shoes- either by buying shoe lasts in your proper width, or, if that isn't available, "building up" a too narrow shoe last with strips of leather glued on. ☺️

@@KatherineSewing Oh. Okay. Thanks. I can fit into mediums but I have to go up a whole size for it to fit and going to the specialty shoe store is a drag. I tend to only buy and wear tennis shoes becasue of lack of selections.

This is the day Hayah has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 118;24). // SHLM & HaB (peace & love). The Name of the Creator is Hayah asher Hayah, as what He told Moshah (Exodus 3:14), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. There is a curse to the G-o-d name (Isaiah 65:11-12), preserved in the Hebrew Scriptures. All followers of the Messiah are to do the 7 appointed times (Leviticus 23), but no more animal sacrifices, following the Crucifixion of the Messiah. We are now of the order of MLK TSDQ (King, righteous), to Whom ABRaHM tithed. Ask the Messiah to be your personal Savior. He said to him, I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6). All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of Hayah (Romans 3:23). The wages for sin is death but the gift of ALaHYM is Everlasting Life through Messiah Yahushgh our Master (Romans 6:23). That if you confess with your mouth the Master Yahushgh and believe in your heart that ALaHYM raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved (Romans 10:9). He Himself is an Atoning Offering for our sins, and not for ours only but also for all the world (1 John 2:2). The Messiah died on the cross, & Resurrected three days later (presenting Himself as First Fruits to the Father). Please ask Him to be your Savior. He is the ONLY way to Everlasting Life.
