MOST of you hated the noise, when I first revealed the new stainless snorkel on my Next Gen Ranger back in 2023.
I've been searching for a solution to reduce the noise as I just love the look. Well, I’ve found a super easy and cheap solution!
Here’s I test out the before and after - you might find the results surprising.
For more information, check out the Snorkel Ram Head Cover 4 Inch snorkel filter at: www.uniflow.com.au
Or on Google search 4” stainless snorkel sock. Prices range from $19 - $30.

Fabulous Fabrications in Brisbane option a silencer on their 5” snorkel. As them about theirs.

@@bigwill2711 thanks mate. I did initially chat to TWD 4x4 and we felt there could be some air restriction via the addition of a silencer (although saying that I haven’t explored it in great detail). That’s definitely a more aggressive option but there’s pros and cons to everything. For sub $30 the sock makes a reasonable improvement but the reality is a rear facing stainless snorkel will always be louder than a front facing plastic snorkel. Appreciate the comment 👌

@@Perth4WDandCamping all makes sense. Would be interesting to see how they do it. They run a full snorkel air box package. I haven’t explored it yet but it pricked my interest.

@@bigwill2711 I’ve seen PPD do a 4” silencer and there’s is a mix of different muffler packing and perforated tubing making the inner 2.5 inches wide to create a muffler effect to lesson the decibels. You’d assume there’s some restriction there to make that work.

Mate love the videos. Key question - if you had your time again would you still get a SS snorkel??!

@@brettblanchard7522 mmm that’s good question mate. I’ve been in one with a Safari snorkel on the V6 and they’re hardly quiet either. Before finding this solution I must admit I had some regrets at times, but now I’ve learned to live with it and don’t notice it too much. Before the sock however, it got annoying at times. If there was a nice looking front facing snorkel on the market, I’d had probably leaned that way (if I had my time again) - but saying that I’m yet to see one I like the look of (all look very plastic / stuck on to me anyway).

Nice. I think a lot depends on the car / engine too. V6 Ranger ones are loud

The whole idea is air induction, The cooler the air in high volume into the manifold, the better. the rear facing are useless. You already had 800mm plus wade depth with a perfectly fine OEM air intake out of the top of the grille. If you don't replace the paper air filter with a K&N High volume air filter its just a useless wank factor add on, just saying. Ps: Luv the vlogs!👍👍😎😎

Cheers mate 🤙 This topic always devides people ha. It’s a love or hate relationship with snorkels. No in-between! I must say tho - I’ve never had a 4x4 with a cleaner air filter before. Definitely some pros to the rear facing. A note on filters - the factory ones are better than the the reusable performance ones for dust. The performance ones are good for the city - better air flow and performance but that’s necessary what you want offroad in dusty conditions. Just something to think about.

I think it's hilarious, manufacturers go to all this trouble to make the vehicle quiet inside, then you stick a noisy ass metal snorkel on it, I have always used Safari, never had noises inside from them, I think it's the rear facing and being made from metal that make them noisier, couldn't think of a worst noise to constantly listen to on a 1000k trip, besides a droning exhaust, some love both noises some don't I am from the don't, I want my vehicle quiet and comfortable inside.

I will probably get a fair bit of hate, but I think snorkels are one of the worst mods. I could not stand that noise.
@Perth4WDandCamping
@Perth4WDandCamping Ай бұрын
@@robfowler3824 na not at all mate. Some people like induction noise and others hate it. Good for water crossings and getting cleaner air into your engine but certainly not a must have mod.

For the majority of people who get a snorkel…. It’s about the look… they crave that testosterone. Fords have a 800mm wading depth… unless you’re very experienced… you ain’t going through that water ( and your wife will have you by the balls if you did 😂) and as for dust… it’s much cheaper just to buy a new air filter and no noise.

There’s definitely those that chase the look. I was always going to get one - had a good experience with the TJM on the Pajero Sport and the difference to dust was crazy. It’s fair enough to say just change the filter but when you’re doing a lot of dusty driving it does add up. 800mm wading depth as standard is pretty good - more than most will ever need.
