I was so nervous to replicate Queen Victoria's iconic emerald tiara but I am so happy (and shocked) that it worked so well! And now cannot wait to be able to pair it with my upcoming Met Gala dress too 🥰
I'm going to be honest with you, making crowns is becoming an obsession now. They are so gosh darn pretty and they might be making a regular appearance on the channel so I really hope you like them! 😅
Let me know in the comments if there are any crowns you would like to see me make in the future, I'm super curious to see what ones you guys love!

She said ribbon ,it's got a finished edge. You might try stretch or bias and finish the edge with a tiny zigzag stitch to stop fraying. You don't want velvet or velveteen fraying off a crown

I'm perfectly flabbergasted by the totally candid manner you managed your way out of such a difficult, technically specific and time consuming project. These things require a team of jewellers for litteraly months (if not years) to achieve, and you copied it all by yourself in a matter of days. I've worked in high end jewellery for years, so I can tell you this was a BRAVE undertaking of yours. If I may give some advice, you should definitely invest in buying bare settings for your gems (either plain or hollow ones) to make the glueing phase less tricky. The tiaras are just that in the beginning : arrangments of different settings shaped in different designs and welded / microscopically screwed together. Then comes the gem setting phase : by carefully chipping some tiny weeny 'prongs' inside the setting case, the setter can then set the gem and ply the prongs on top of it to secure it in place. Not for the faint hearted, when you know the price of the gems involved in this process. Unfortunately, making it that way requires quite a lot of tools that can be very expensive. You could bypass this by using already made jewellery pieces that you can use as 'spare parts' (costume jewellery and specially brooches are a pretty useful resource / some suppliers like cupchain USA sell new empty settings, too). Some blank brooch bases have tiny holes (the ones for stitching an embroidered item to it), that could be useful to thread your fiddly friend through it. Also a solder gun could prove more effective than cyanoacrylic glue in the long term, although it requires a bit of practice. It's less toxic, that's a real plus point for you and your lungs. Anyway, as long as you're having fun while creating your tiaras, and in love with the end result, it's all that matters. Thanks a lot for sharing it with us all.

Thank you so much 🖤 I never would have considered making the settings first, it’s sounds challenging but I kind of want to try it that way now.

Or just use a drop of UV resin? I use gel polish on a regular based and it does wear down, break down over time. UV resin is more solid and minutes to cure with a UV lamp or UV torch

I'm another rando brought by the algorithm, but I do LOTS of crafts, and now I want to recreate tiaras. (I recently found 2 well-made tiaras at a thrift shop, and *had* to get them!) To not glue your fingers to the tiara so much, they make reusable, silicone finger guards. like a soft (gel-like) flexible thimble covering appropriately half the finger. (in the US sold in 2-packs for ~3) They're marketed as being for hot glue, but they'd work just as well for this. (even better with UV gel that someone else suggested.) It seems like your glue would peel off easily, like hot glue does, but even if it doesn't work, it'd be better than peeling your fingers off.

WELL, you did ask for suggestions! I would love to see what you would do with a seashell-mermaid crown!
@MadameMyriad
@MadameMyriad Ай бұрын
I definitely would love to do a design based on Ariel from the Little Mermaid! She was my second favourite Disney princess so taking the seashell idea and using gems to give it the undersea treasure aesthetic could be really interesting!

How lovely! My thought for you is to take mesh (like tulle) and glue your jems down to that fabric, and then mount the fabric to the wire frame. You can use a sodering iron to melt away any mesh that is exposed, so you can't see the fabric, but it gives you many more points of contact!

That’s a really interesting idea, I might experiment with that, thank you ☺️

WOW! This is a GREAT project! Lots of good tips like arranging the clusters in glue. I am definitely going to try that! I make tiaras out of shells, I live in Santa Barbara. But being a sewer and a crafter I have lots of gems too! Simply stunningly gorgeous result, by the way. Enjoy it for a long time!

Thank you so much!!! I’m glad you enjoyed it so much! I love the concept of making tiaras with shells! I’ve been trying to think of more fantasy styles crown/tiara designs so it could be really cool to try out 🤔

Wow what an amazing job!! Well done! 🤩✨ As someone who’s spent hours at work staring at the actual tiara, in the Jewel Room at Kensington Palace (where it lives, not the V&A), my only criticism is that yours is set in silver rather than gold and seems quite a bit taller than the original - though that’s probably down to the limitations of your materials. A lovely video showing it clearly is here on KZfaq called ‘Preparing Tiaras for the Victoria Revealed Exhibition.’ But again, well done! 💗
@MadameMyriad
@MadameMyriad Ай бұрын
Oh wow that’s crazy, you work there?! I definitely didn’t realise it wasn’t at the V&A so I appreciate you filling in that gap for me 😬 Thank you for the kind words and the specific tips are really nice to receive, genuinely!! 🥹Yeah it was definitely an availability thing. I did notice it was gold initially but I still had a fair amount of silver wire and gem chains left from my first crown. Thank you again so much!!

Also you should check out some of the prong setting wire wrapping tutorials there's a very easy way to make a wire wrapped prong setting that would look amazing then you can glue that in and it would have both the wire and the prongs. Also when wrapping the wires you should use the thinner wire it will stay and it's actually what they used to do wire weaving on those gorgeous wire wrapped pendants which those are the places that have the prong setting tutorials. I would love to see what you do next especially after watching a couple of those tutorials cuz you've got the talent and as soon as you get some of the wire wrapping skills I think you could go on to make some of your own designs and they'd be absolutely fabulous

This is lovely. Now I have another thing to add to my craft making list. Though I will start with something simpler. With getting your finger glued, sometimes the bond will break easier if going sideways rather than straight out. Slide your fingers sideways. Some glues have a stronger bond when pulling straight apart. I hope that I make sense.

It looks amazing! A great success. It’s also a huge inspiration, you make the idea of a custom tiara approachable. If i’d ever attempt something like this, I would attempt to use some solder for the metal backed gems, to see if it can be done with slightly less glue.
