I do like to see this style of painting represented, so much on KZfaq and Instagram is focused on ultra smooth blending or ultra fast speed painting or ultra brown grimdark. These look so nice and painted in a way that looks like a traditional 2d painting.

The final glory shot shows a really well executed paint job. Half way through the video I was unsure of where the final minis were going but I'm pleased to say that fear was unfounded. I like the take of doing the armour as a leather instead of metal.
@52Miniatures
@52Miniatures Ай бұрын
That was a fun idea that came out of the "Roman" concept. It's why I like having ideas for armies that might not be connected to the lore of the game. I'd never thought of trying to do leather armour without that little story side line of Roman soldiers. I like how it turned out :)

I love how much detail you are able to achieve with what seems like so few colors in relation to the final result. I tried some NMM last week and got really discouraged at the same sketchy effect you achieved here, but maybe if I adjust my expectation and lean into it, that will make me a bit happier. Your NMM looks really good here, and maybe I just didn't take it far enough. Great video! And I love how you show the less glamorous parts of the hobby that are so real.

I find it takes a bit of repetition. There's plenty of spots on these ten minis that don't look great. And there's some that do (to me). But repeating the ten minis with similar panels and shapes made me "better" for each mini.

I think that's the thing, painting scheme complexity doesn't necessarily make a finer final product. Just being mindful of what colours we use and how to compliment them is. Like, I wouldn't have thought about introducing other colours to shade yellow in this really stylistic way, but it really does work. Makes me want to do some experimentation of my own.

Your kitbash videos are always a treat Alex, you have a way with making it feel less daunting and I think it has to do with how you don't focus on how tough it can be but rather the more positive aspects of it like the story you make as you select the pieces or what fits the theme you want. One of the biggest draws for me to Warhammer is this idea of making a seemingly uniform army tell a unique story of its own through customizations and color schemes that do not follow exactly with the lore. I've been on that journey of watching every painting and color theory video I can find on warhammer and miniatures. Since I don't yet have a buffet of paints to choose from I vicariously enjoy watching all the materials you try out in this video.

Hi Alex, I think you're right, do not paint for some times, make me feel like everything I knew is been deleted, in these days I'm working on a small diorama, with two 54mm Andrea minis, and after some years without painting some so big I'm quite scared, I love those minis and I'm worried to make a mess. Thanks for this video, is always a pleasure to have a high protein pancake and a coffee, watching you working

I think one of the benefits of not painting for some time is that I "forget" some things I've done as a habit and replace it with something new. This can lead to interesting development. But the brushcontroll, controll over paint consistency, things like that certainly goes down after a while.

I've been getting tired of all the over the top nature of a lot of the other painters on here and I'm really glad I can put your videos on relax and get into the important thing painting minis. Not the "10 mini painting tricks you won't believe work" or the constant need to just go go go fast get the video and minis done. Thank you so much for that. Thank you Magnus! I have done video recommendation videos in the past. I believe there is a playlist. Unfortunately they messed with the KZfaq algorithm. KZfaq got confused and the book videos actually affected the hobby videos in a negative manner, pulling down my views as KZfaq couldn’t decide if it should recommend my videos as hobby or book videos. So I stopped. I don’t like it but this was not a stand to make.

You mention the length of your videos on a few occasions and I must say that I prefer the fact that your videos are longer. The sharing of your thought process as you work wouldn't receive the merit it deserves in a shorter video. I have commented before how I enjoy the way your videos get me thinking about my own hobbying affairs. So please don't change, the algorithm be damned!

I appreciate it Paul. I always do try and do what I want. It's just a shame when "algorithm be damned" also means "income be damned". But there we are.

What an awesome trip back to the owlcast! The atmosphere your paint style creates is so rewarding to see! I'd love to see these sitting on a table to get a feel for how visible they are at a medium distance

I really appreicate being taken on the jounrey through all the warty and ugly phases. As an aside, the rabbit hole a good cover can send you down. I wish those arts were available in hardcover. And the excerpt really explains why they said for fans of Game of Thrones.

Really appreciate the story telling monologue videos. Most excellent company. Really appreciate the painting technique shown here too, even if my results are closer to your Son’s than yours. But maybe that’s because we both paint green skins. Though I doubt it.

Thank you PG I appreciate it. I also very much enjoy the fact that this hobbie is for everyone and what brings us together is the love of painting and gaming. We are all at different levels and that is not important

I have been waiting for this video after seeing the figures on Instagram. It was worth the wait for sure. I love your painting style and learning the thought processes behind it. I would like to emulate this style, but I cannot seem to get out of my own way when it comes to "sketchiness." Thanks for the book recommendation too. I listen to audiobooks while I paint, so I have the first book on hold from my local library.

@@52Miniatures I finished the "Nevernight" last night. What an amazing book. I loved the style, the story, the characters, and the little historical side notes the narrator made. It reminded me of the Harry Potter series, but definitely for adults.

That test mini looks great! As is the finished squad of course. I admire your fast NMM painting skill, it looks quite convincing. The sketching approach of trial and error is a very interesting approach to painting mini where you seem to let go of pressure and just have fun with paint - I should try this more often. Personnal opinion : if you go through with your idea of writing a Fantasy book, I strongly suggest you record an Audio version. I fin I alway enjoy listening to your voice explaining how you painted a mini or what's your thought process on selecting this or that theme for an army.
