Found your channel researching this very thing. Wrapping up building my own hull as well. A great resource on any marine electrical is on the Pacific Yacht Systems KZfaq channel. Based around BIG boats but our systems are just miniature versions of those. Good stuff. And Hello from SW MO by the way. Great channel 🤙🏼

I switched my 24v trolling motor batteries from AGM to LiFePO4 and now, instead of running out toward the end of a long day, I can go 2 FULL days in-between charging. This is a real advantage when you go somewhere to fish for an entire weekend.

Makes me want to weigh pros & cons and obsticles of installing a small generator to power all the electronics. May not be feasable, but it's overcast and windy outside. Good thing to think about as I have a cold one.

Nicely done. I have a Minn Kota 24 volt trolling motor. I want to buy two Litiium batteries to power it. I will wire them in series (current setup with Loaded cell batteries). The trolling motor powers a 20-foot fishing pontoon boat. I doubt I will ever use the trolling motor.... continually for more than 6 hours in any given day. Usually always short fishing days. Fair weather fishing, not fighting wind. Will two (2) 50aH, Lithium batteries, wired in series be enough for my needs?

I run 5 heavy ass batteries also , I have been wanting to change over , but I can’t justify the price difference. What is your opinion on the new set up vs the old lead batteries? Do you think this was still the right choice and did it make that big of a difference? Also how much weight did you gain back from the lithium batteries? Thank you .

I got three 12 volt Dakota batteries three months ago. They advertise an 11 year warranty. One of them would not take a charge. The company does not ever answer their phone and they do not respond to emails. That seems to be the case for a lot of reviews on Amazon. So it looks like I'm out three hundred dollars for nothing. I guess that is par for the course these days.

Looking forward to see how they work out for you this summer. I use my Terrova to troll on Erie a lot and it sucks when the batteries die and cut your day short. As an engineer, I don't see how a 63 Amp/hour battery is going to last longer than a 110 Amp/hour battery, but I've read reports that say they do. Keep us informed please.
@totalanglingexperience3493
@totalanglingexperience3493 3 жыл бұрын
Just because the lead acid is 110 amps, you only get that for a very short time due to the huge voltage curve that is associated with them. Lithium’s have a extremely flat voltage curve which allows for a longer run time and the ability for a lower amp battery to be very comparable to a higher amp lead acid

Lithium batteries are amazing I've been in love with them for years!!! They have a higher charge density & put out more energy. Less cells bc more power so way less resistance. Less heat & can release the stored energy faster. Also hold a charge for alot longer. Less weight & no power drop. Temp extremes don't effect as much either. I think they're worth the money. I've never been disappointed with any lithium battery.

Lithium are 36v 100% power until they are dead. Lead acid are 100%power to start but as the battery looses charge you only have that power to pull from. I’m running lithium for 36v and live scope as well and love it. I chose lithium so can troll cranks all day without a kicker motor
@rod7944
@rod7944 3 жыл бұрын
as others have said, the 110 ah of a lead acid is a bit of a farse. The actual usable ah of a 110 lead acid is more like 60 or 70 ah. I have switched over and can confirm for all that a 60 ah lithium phosphate has about the same usable energy as a 100 ah lead acid.

I'll definitely will be following how this turns out for you because I'm interested in it. I have a question. When you're running lead acid batteries. Why would you wire them up in series to equal 36 volts and run a voltage reducer and not just parallel to give you three batteries at 12 volts? On a side note I think it would be beneficial to look into some solar charging on the boat. I'm thinking like small solar panels that's not in your way as a small trickle charge to keep the batteries going for the day.

Had to have 36 volts for the trolling motor. I’ve not been able to find a panel that will actually benefit me most just charge to slow to even be worthwhile. And you need a synwave charger to keep voltage spikes down while running the electrics
@adrockey
@adrockey 3 жыл бұрын
@@totalanglingexperience3493 ok. I didn't catch that your trolling motor was 36 volts. I'd say get creative with small solar panels all around the boat to keep up with the smaller batteries. I think they're an eyesore but I've been pondering on different strategic ways of doing small solar panels. I live in Iowa so our cloud cover is pretty much the same not like it is down in the south but still can be effective in our region. The trick isfiguring out how to make it not an eyesore and out of your way. I'm trying to figure this out myself.

I think i am getting that same set up in my Ranger Z520, of course i am not installing them, they will have to do some work taking out the old quad charger and 4 worthless batteries, hope the big battery fits well, i will be asking those questions with the boat shop, your boat is custom but is there a normal plug to charge the batteries like i had on my quad Ranger Charger? Heard they can't be charged in cold, what is cold below 20, 40? Its only around 50 as the high in spring and fall, the boat however is always in a garage, can't imagine having a 100k boat outside, what are people thinking? Well i know money means nothing to them. I was told these batteries 1600 for 36v and think 600 for the starter both come with a charger. Never heard that one before, battery coming with a charger. Dakota is the brand. I just want batteries that last longer then only 4yrs, and really last month or so of that was running very poor, having my Minn Kota at 50% all the time, needing to put it at 100 to get the same speed after 6hrs means those batteries are done. Minn Kota Fortex 101 is what is going to be running on that 36v. Twin Talons, and Helix units, along with 250 Merc running on the cranking battery. This is the first upgrade, then trolling motor will be the following year when Minn Kota unleashes its newest model. Which i haven't heard nothing about it, so may have been scratched. Ultrex will then be my motor with 360 transducer. Hate changing from my Fortex to another one, its all i have ever used, the Maxxum, 2 of them in previous boats then this Fortex for the last 9 yrs, flat out beast dominating the competition. Had a motorguide, it got stuck in weeds, yeah weedless trolling motor stuck in weeds, donated that pos to a poor person at the ramp say this can be your anchor, it is trash. Never has Minn Kota ever got stuck, even when its buried in weeds in a ft or less of water, its a beast and with inferior batteries i cant wait till its running on 36v. How often are you charging these? I hear they can go for days, i can't imaging doing that, i would charge as i always would after ever trip, unless i do see they don't need to be like other guys say 8hrs of being on the trolling motor still 80% charged i say what? Mine are 80% dead.
