Have you ever wanted to make your own table inserts? These plastic inserts are stronger then the old plywood inserts I used to use And look 100X better. And fully customizable!

You should make the insert thicker, then router a recessed edge so it will drop into the saw and sit flush with the top.

I thought about that. Those would take a lot more time and they work well this way. You're not wrong though. They would be stronger

When you need to cut the plastic. I use old saw blades and put the on a shaft oh and use washers for spacers between the blades. Put the blades on a shaft, then build a box wood will do for the time being. Put the shaft though a bearing and a pully on the end and and electric motor. To run it with but it needs a really slow rpms.

Another cheap idea is Sams Club sells 1/2" cutting boards that are 15"x20" out of HDPE for $9. They are great for many jigs, fence guards, push sticks etc.

i might take your idea and modify it for my sawstop tablesaw. would be good to have more dado inserts.

Brothers Make channel does tons of hdpe projects, but not yet this. The cutoffs & dust/trimmings are reusable in the next melt. Hdpe is infinitely reshapable, just apply heat again. The brothers channel has an hdpe chisel mallet that I'm planning to try.

A lot of people say that but in my experience you can only get about 2 to 3 heats out of HDPE before it's too dried out.

@@WyldeWoodworks Dry? OK, wow. The plasticized must be burning off. I think others go with lower Temps which may limit that loss. Or it may be that they haven't done enough to notice - adding "dry used up dust" a big mass likely won't be obvious what caused oddities. Thanks for info!

@@kpmathis71 Yeah NP. I haven't gotten good bonding at lower temps but I'm not an expert either. I'd love to know if it's possible

Does your inserts not screw down? Also, think about reviewing that corded Metabo sander, haven't found a thorough review of that on KZfaq yet. Do you like it?

It's a great cheap sander. I switched to a Dewalt because it uses a battery but I don't think it's as good as the Metabo. Thanks!

How stiff are the inserts? Do the flex when in use?
@WyldeWoodworks
@WyldeWoodworks Жыл бұрын
They flex less than the wood ones but more than the metal ones
