I machine and hand sew a medieval Italian renaissance cream silk underdress or Gamurra. I'm working on a series of garments to recreate a historically accurate version of Danielle's Court dress from Disney's Ever After: A Cinderella Story with Drew Barrymore from 1998. Her green and yellow court dress is truly iconic to me, and the look is super similar to 1490's Italian Renaissance styles. This is the second layer of the outfit, next will be the sleeves, the Giornea or overdress, and finally a snood.

Bonus: Diana the Corgi and Bean the Chihuahua dogs.

I just found your channel and love it! Just wondering where you got you very large cutting mat? I have carpet in my new place and worry about cutting it when cutting out fabric. Thanks!!

Happy to have you here! And yes, the cardboard cutting mat that I use is just from Joann's, they usually have it near the scissors and sewing machines I feel like 💚

Quick random question! Why didn’t you cut out the bodice pieces on the fold? Always curious about these different choices. Thank you so much for another great one ☝🏾
@AbiSueCostumes
@AbiSueCostumes 2 жыл бұрын
Good question! Most of the time I generally cut on the fold when I can, it def saves time. For this one the reason I have the full pattern is because I trace around it onto the fabric directly, this helps me visually, as well as able to fit my pattern pieces in weird places on the fabric to use as little fabric as possible, the long shoulder straps fit into each other well. It helps when tracing seams so I don't have to mark the middle and flip it over and trace again, so mostly, to save me time and effort 😆

Hello, I am learning to make Renaissance Italian style clothes. If I do not make corsets, can I achieve the effect of gathering only by pulling ropes around the underwear like yours?
@AbiSueCostumes
@AbiSueCostumes 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! And yes, for this outfit, the corset/stays that I made just didn't work under it, I ended up just using the underdress bodice as my only support, it worked out fine for me!

Great video footage yet there no way I could make that, I could and did make a tapestry Renaissance dress and it was all wonky mainly because Cranach Landsknecht sleeves fall down. Yet this looks a lot more than I have time …

Ok, so the pockets... Are they on a seam? It's hard to tell.
@AbiSueCostumes
@AbiSueCostumes Жыл бұрын
So for the pockets, I made those separately, they tie onto my waist. I had long openings on the side seams on this inner dress below the lacing.
