From this engine, I think I like 270 the best, it has that sound that both V-twin and crossplane V engines have. 360 reminds me of old VW Beetle engines a bit. Have you tried 90 or less? (90 and 270 should work on the same timing disk) I think the 5 cylinder has a really unique sound, maybe something for a future project.

360, hands down. Less vibrations and the nicest throttle response. Even sounds like a Triumph.

It sure sounds the most like an old British twin. Mathematically, however, the 90 degree has 70% of the free force of the 360 and 70% of the rocking couple of the 180 - combined, mind you. In reality, nowadays with the use of crank speed counterbalances, this leaves you with an engine that has only a small secondary rocking couple - something neither of the other configurations has a hope of boasting. Phil Irving found that it had the best engine response, too - but only with individual carburettors. Naturally this killed his offset crank idea dead in the 1960s.

The word guru is thrown around a lot, but in this case, it actually fits like a glove. It's a real guru, for the 1st time ever, no blowing smoke, no embellishment.

The vibration with the 180⁰ config must be crazy, i mean look at that engine sliding around. 360⁰ config is the way to go, (theoretically) no primary and no secondary imbalance, smooth and buttery.

what do you mean by 360° config, right when the pistons are 180° diference that is going to be the least vibration because the same mass is going up and down at same time, 360° or both pistons fireing at same time would not be stable at any means.

360 would mean the pistons are synchronised but fire 360 degrees apart, that has both bad primary and secondary imbalance, 180 degrees where the pistons are opposing has good primary balance, bad secondary balance and a rocking couple, which also makes it vibrate a bit

@Jarda_B @gerrit2107 1. If it's inline yes secondary imbalance is twice. 2. Clearly this is not Inline engine, it's a "Twin Crank U-engine" so do a research on that. 3. Also recommend to take a look at Neander Motors Twin Crank Diesel Engine.

@@ardhifarhan4821 Could you explain to me why it not being an inline engine has impact on its balance? i thought the imbalance was due to the mass of the rods and pistons moving up and down, is there more to it than that?

​@@gerrit2107being a U engine. You the 2 cranks rotate opposite of each other so both pistons coming up at the same time cancel out primary and secondary forces

Its cool and creative but "Miracle" and "genius engineer" is a bit of a stretch... Apart from the harmonic effects and smoothness of the running there won’t be a great deal of difference in the power output. I would have thought there would be a difference mainly from the firing order and inlet due to both cylinders sharing one carb . Good point and it would be interesting to see the power difference.

@@newagetemplar6100 there won't be any difference in power or torque.. understand what bmep means in torque terms.. HP is purely a factor of cylinder pressure expansion ratio which is a factor of compression ratio & fuel burn rate.. as you mentioned the timings between the cylinders affects harmonics & secondary balance forces

Mister le Dan... you have a real and super gifted talent in engineering modifications and a trully great machining experience. With those two superb talents, you have are the whole package for an engines modificator constructor !! If you had made a company doing motors modifications , am sure you will earn too much money. I thing its time for you, to make a motor company, that builds and sell modified engines, ordered by any customer, the way and as many cylinders he likes !! Keep doing these excelent projects !!

It's incredibly hard to decide which sounds best. 180° was nice, kinda like a beefy scooter. 270° was good, it was more of a classic Euro Race Bike/Cafe Racer. 360° was great, because it had a strong beefy sound. Like it would slam down more torque. All options are excellent! Just need a electromechanical phaser so you can switch between them at will. Seems like one would be great for efficiency, another would pack HP, and another would favor torque. If you could make that a push button or dial adjustable setup, and fit it to a cool like bike/scooter/go kart of some kind, you could create something that would totally blow the world's mind and make even Honda a bit jealous.

Camchain tensioner for the front cylinder is on the tension not the slack side of the chain. Otherwise nice work!.

Try 285 and 300-degree offsets as well. Those are some of the best 2-cylinder sounds around.
