ORIGINAL REVIEW: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bc93g9uKvqrOYps.html OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM TAMRON EUROPE: Dear Mr. Calton, Thank you very much for your comparison test between our TAMRON 35-150mm and the Samyang 35-150mm. We really appreciate your reviews and the effort you put into them. Following the results in your video, we have checked our test sample again in detail and unfortunately have to inform you that the lens you used for the test has been damaged by an external force. Every lens we send out to magazines, test labs, bloggers or KZfaqrs is thoroughly checked by us before we send it out. To us, it looks like the lens has been damaged in transit. A hard drop or bump, even if the lens is well packed, can deform the rear barrel, causing the bayonet and therefore the entire optical system to sit crooked on the camera. This results in blurred edges and less than optimal center sharpness. We apologize for the inconvenience and the many questions you have received about the image quality of the TAMRON lens. We hope that this statement will clear up some of the uncertainties. Sven Diegel Marketing Manager TAMRON Europe"

"Every lens we send out to magazines, test labs, bloggers or KZfaqrs is thoroughly checked by us before we send it out" Well, that's really BAD; It should have sounded as follows: "Every lens we manufacture is thoroughly checked by us before we send it out". Original statement for me sounds like "Test lenses are fine tuned to reach best figures in the lab so they are desirable to purchase; on the other way we don't give a s*it about QC on customer's lenses". I worked corporate for 10 years as sales director; a mkt manager giving such an answer wouldn't have lasted a day in my company.

Then tamron what are the chances that another well known youtuber professional photographer just happened to have the SAME EXACT problem and so did one of his friends (wedding photographer Taylor Jackson). Unfortunately we all can't be youtubers and get the same service/response from big companies to problems we have. It's nice to see you guys put extra quality control into lens copies you send to media/influencers and yet STILL 2 cases of bad lenses.

@@TomCalton I've seen other reviews where people have had the same out of focus issue show up on their Tamron lens randomly and Tamron fixed them under warranty. Did Tamron make a change in their manufacturing process so this problem doesn't happen with newly manufactured versions of this lens? I'm afraid I would be eagle eyed enough to catch this issue before my warranty expires if I get this lens. For some reason I'm uncomfortable with Samyang.

Thanks for the update. I waited almost a year to be able to get a hold of the Tamron and have now had it for 6 months. I love the lens so much that I still watch reviews so I can learn more about it. I commented on your last video that your findings did not match that of some of the most popular KZfaq reviewers and I have not experienced what you did either on my lens. I also thought that you had a defective unit because how could your results be so different. Hats off to you for taking the comments into consideration and looking into it. Look, I’m all for the best lens at the best price. I recently purchased the Viltrox 75mm f/1.2 for Fujifilm and it is an amazing lens for only $549. But if I needed a second 35-150 lens I would easily pay the additional $500 for the Tamron because it has been an amazing lens for myself with a great track record thus far backed by a fantastic warranty.

A funny thing when testing has happened to me: I have noticed one day - briefly after the lens was returned from service after I reported its zoom ring - that Tamron's 35-150mm goes totally out of focus with longer focal lengths. I was shocked and played around a bit until I recalled one thing... I had a brand new filter. I took that filter off and magically the problem has disappeared. The funny thing was that the streak filter I talk about works only at up to 70mm or something, then it causes an increasing blur over the entire frame when shot wide open. It looks like this filter works only when depth of field is wide enough, as either closing down the aperture or shortening focal length fixes this blur.

Excellent update; however, I feel by leaving out the differences on the warranty coverage period (and the quick service you just received from Tamron) that would definitely be a win for Tamron to even out the final result is a miss on this review. In Canada, I would get a 10 year warranty with Tamron locally and 2 years with Samyang purchased from local authorized Canadian stores with long turnaround time frame (personal experience while working at local camera store) as the lens would need to be sent out to US for any services. If the faulty lens was the Samyang in the test and is over 2 yeas old, the replacement would not have happened. I still can't see myself deal with the blue/cool cast on every image out video though. Thank you again for the update and doing the review update.👍

I agree. If the warranty was added to the overall score, I believe Tamron would be the winner. I am in a peculiar spot. Due to owning more than six Tamron lenses in the past 10 years (eight total), I am now a member of their Platinum VIP group. One of the benefits is lifetime warranty on an any new Tamron lens purchase. My 150-500 is the first lens and this one would be the second with such warranty. I do not know of any camera gear (body, lens) manufacturer that offers remotely something close to that. So paying $400-500 more with the Tamron is well worth the extra protection. I also get to try any lens they offer for free and they pay for shipping to me and from me to them!! I have no complaints about image quality with any of my current five Tamron lenses for my Sony. Focusing in low light is an issue, especially in the corners, but I do mostly landscapes and do not have to contend with that shortcoming.
@yuizen

I agree about the warranty but Tamron maybe biased on him regarding on quick service since he is KZfaqr and his videos went viral specially that part where the edge is blurred out. I want to hear it from a regular person on how quick both samyang and tamron service is.
@Jeo-What
@Jeo-What 9 ай бұрын
@@yuizen I think that would depend on the location worldwide. In Canada where the service centres location are only less an hour drive, I had sent customers to both Tamron & Sigma (10 year / 7 year Canadian warranty) service centres to get same day recalibration on lenses due to emergency by contacting our regional representative and it was done if a few hours. No such thing with Samyang lenses as we will have to sent it to US and wait for over a month or two without shipping coverage.

Appreciate the follow up video. I’ve bought new lenses before and have gotten a bad copy. I always grab a few test shots on Day 1 just to confirm everything is working properly. I know some people that order 3 and keep the best of the bunch. I used to shun that attitude, but if there is that much variability, might not be a bad strategy.

Your new conclusion doesn't make sense regarding the new compared photos, as there is quite a noticeable difference. Especially in the corner at 35mm the fine lines are clearly distinguishable on the Tamron whereas on the Samyang there's just a muddy big block. That's a big difference for me.

Just got my Samyang 35-150 and - if I may - I have two issues to point out and hopefully to discuss here: - does your copy make a noticible noise when zooming (I think it's the barrel itself) - I've got mine attached to Sony A7iii and weirdly sometimes it won't stop down from 2.0 downwards when zooming - I have to detatch it from the body (ever so slightly, just to disconnect the pins) and put it back again for the camera to show stopping down all the way to 2.8 when zooming Thanks in advance for your insight. :)

Do you use foto Video or Photo work? what is your opinion on AF? can't understand the difference in opinions on this subject some call it the same between the Tamron and Samyang/Rokinon with slight advantage to Tamron, others say it's day & night saying Samyang/Rokinon is unusable especially long edge. (I have A7III and thinking on adding one of these to lenses... can buy both at the same price here in Chile, the problem for me Tamron updated their other lenses and would make sense to them maybe to update the 35-150 very soon in line with the 28 - 75 and 70-180 second gen versions. (or maybe they won't because the 35-150 already is a kind of second gen lens compared to the other two because of construction and AF motors)

You could look at it that Tamron build quality isn’t good if it got “damaged” from shipping and the box wasn’t damaged. In a real world scenario the shipping would be same as going to a job site and now the lens got damaged.

Seems like manufacturing fault, possibly damaged or smudged infernals. Defenitly faulty as you did not see any damage. I bought an use flens that has banged up focus ring, slightly bent, a small ding, but works fine mine is a Sony Sel85f18. Yet perfect sharpness. So was a great deal, got it cheap. But from a dealer so they tested it. So buying from a dealer you get a product that works and has been tested. But that should be the case for new lenses. Tested to see if they work. Would be kuce but would increase cost, time. I'm sure a proper lens cn handle some abuse as long as its not too extreme. But failed optics due to dropping it in a box. The carboad box should have taken the impact. If lens gets damaged from that it's junk. I doubt it did get damaged that way. My lens clearly had a direct hit or hits and is fine. I say it's faulty.

Thank you for the update! How bad was the lens creep on the Samyang? Mine will extend to about 100mm after the lens is pointed downwards, and then fully if I take a couple of steps. I recently used it for an even and it was a little annoying to constantly adjust it from 150mm to what ever focal length I’d like to shoot.

Another friend of mine has the same lens and has same issue with her Sony A1. However, neither of us have had any issues when using this lens on the Sony A9. I'm just wondering if this is a widespread issue or not (probably not since I can't see any comparable issues when I Google. And wondering if I'd have any issues with the Samyang. That's why you get the Tamron with 5y warranty. Also, what wasn't mentioned in this review is flaring. Samyang cheaped out on the coatings. You get what you pay for. Samyang is not better than the Tamron, it's worse. It offers similar sharpness, similar CA (but different color), worse AF, worse build quality, 35mm is more like 39mm on the Samyang and no real warranty. Is 30-40% price savings worth it? I'd say absolutelly not, because the alternative to the 35-150 is Sony's 70-200 and a normal zoom. Both cost and arm and a leg. Tamron is not expensive at all in comparison.

That's absolutely not what we've learnt here. As I explained, the lens I tested was most likely damaged in transit - nothing to do with Tamron's QC. I've tested plenty of Tamron lenses in the past and I've never receved a faulty lens from them. If anything, from this experience we've learnt that Tamron actually give a crap about their reputation and the quality of the products they make, enough to send off the lens to Europe for testing, issue an official statement, and then send out a replacement for me to re-test. I think all credit to them for their efforts here!

Some youtuber was say story that he buy 6 tamrons zooms (150-600mm ?) and last one of them was good enough to keep it.

@@kaziulaz to be fair, based on my own personal experience, @tomcalton was right about Tamron's QC. I bought the Samyang version, and had a lot of problems with it. I had two copies and sent them both back. Considering the price, the build is poor, in my opinion. I then bought a used Tamron version and it has been completely reliable. The build seems significantly better to me. Best overall lens I ever owned. I also have a Tamron 20-40 which is also great.

Its still fun to see orginal video and new suplement. Thanks for you reply. Will be nice to heard details about that poor quality compare to tamron. I have few lenses include samyang 35-150, two of them is old carl zeiss from pentacon six. Last my 35 years until last night i never notice that one of them have loose parts like it soon will fall apart or self disaseable soon...i wonder if he was always like that and i not notice it becouse i was happy enough with optical job. Hehe i find it when i was do some gear presentation to my friend .. In Laova 45mm i was to complain on how long and need turning focus ring to make changes and how low tolerances are on it..soo it need many force to operate it becouse of force i need apply i need many force couter it to keep camera not move ..faster move the more i cant hold it correct i thing then that maybe some 35 years later somethng will wear out, grease will evaporate and i finaly will use it right without problems like i see .. When using laowa i have good memeries and wish to focus ring operate almost without friction like on my "low quality cheap lenses" that most of focus parts are losse and in other rotation angle is also smaller. Becouse with them i do the job and im not distracted like with laowa. (Tens times beter bulid quality ... That i not like to use.) i Propably have lower standards needs and obycectivly agry with you about beter quality on Tamron compare to Samyang ... But for me samyang was superior to everything i have any way. If for me price wouldn't be factor i will not even try Samyang ... (even with its flaws is good enough i but new Samyang for 823 dollars with 5 years warranty and tamron price is hmm double?.. I dont have that comparision. .. ... Samyang do the job incredible well fow me ... And i think Tamron will do it even better ..but im at that level that i cant apriciate it propably to to pay almost duble. Im sorry for my travel outside topic. (Maybe my samyang unit was also lucky and maybe they quality is now better that before ... Maybe it have new firmware (hmm propably not becouse they want sell "lens dock stations" hehe)

@@TomCalton a bit more thorough test of the AF for longer lenses might be useful as a lot of people use them for sport.

I've heard that tamron 35 -150mm is not compatible with sensor full frame Sony RIV and RV. It's not sharp at focal length 2 ~2.8. How about Samyang?

Hello! New Tamron, faulty Tamron, new Tamron, faulty Tamron, ..OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM TAMRON EUROPE.. Agree, this is an advertisement for Tamron? I didn’t hold Samyang 35-150 in my hands, but he has a lot of good lenses. The theme of Samyang 35-150 is not disclosed at all, smeared / blurred. Do you position yourself as a professional? Galloping through the pictures, no juicy video reviews. You are not trying to open the topic. 🤦‍♂
