I think that's closer to what they were inferring when they talked about her being depressed. As this show has shown before, Korean society doesn't address mental health or suicide very easily so I think they were dancing around it. It's possible they were using a stronger word for depressed too. sometimes subtitles don't capture the weight well. But I feel much the same way. She's very nearly broken by it all...couldn't even get one sentence out when talking to the dogs...T_T

My mum worked often too, and still does, but she never missed the big events for me (graduation, birthday parties, etc). I'd be more understanding if this lady was spending all of her free time earning money, but the fact that she prioritises her volunteer work over her children as well is ridiculous. It's good to want to help the community, but family should come first. Same with her singing career. Those are all personal hobbies she is indulging in instead of taking care of her children. I feel so sorry for the girl, and her brother.

this woman doesn't deserve to call herself a mother. her child is "independent" out of pure necessity - she has no choice but to be independent because she has NO ONE TO LOOK AFTER HER. this poor sweet little girl just wants someone to talk to, someone to care for her, someone to love her and her so called mother is sitting there saying she has a clear conscience even though her child is literally crying from loneliness and heartache. i hope all those old people she volunteers with are as happy to take care of her for the rest of her life as she claims they are to see her because she treats them better than she treats her own family even though they're total strangers.

Yeah she's not even angry. She still cares about her mom's health above all her own concerns. The daughter is past angry, she is extremely hurt and disappointed and cannot understand why her own mom is doing this to her, the daughter is only asking for a conversation with her own mom, she doesn't even seem like the clingy type, but the mom cannot seem to give up her passions. The mom's got too much going on. And the daughter doesn't even complain about all the cleaning, cooking, and chores she does. That stuff is not easy. She does them first, then goes to her room and cry about everything's she hurting about. She's strong, I would cry first and do half the chores halfheartedly.

I got really irritated when the mom said, " I know what she went though but I thought she'd be more understanding." Your daughter just wants to spend time with you and not feel neglected. Most kids her age in this generation treat their parents like shit. I honestly would rather be poor if it meant that I could be happy with my family then have money and be alone. Her daughter feels so alone that she has to confine in her dogs because she has no one to talk too. Also she doesnt even go to her kids graduations or visit her son when he was in the hospital how upsetting. I hope the mom quits one of her jobs or only volunteers on one day of the weekend instead of both. She should spend time with her child because when her daughter gets older and isn't around as much the mom will realize that she doesn't have any memories with her and end up regreting her past choices. The mother also needs to change her ways because there is only so much that her daughter can take until she explodes and becomes like her brother, holding grudges against her.

@@monniechu that's a stretch and I'm shocked that I would be seeing this type of comment after hearing this story. No one is expecting the mother to drop her "jobs" (you seem to be okay with her dropping her kids though). and from what I can see, the only real friends her daughter have is her dogs and I doubt she even knows what going out is like since her mom depends on her so much to do ALL the house chores plus provide (COOK) food for everyone in that household. (At this point you probably haven't even watched the whole thing huh). Yes an entitled little brat will see it as, hey if things aren't like this then it would have been off the handle double negative cause 1+1=2 and 1-1=-2 (???). And you have the nerve to call her SPOILED?!??? Yeah cause learning to cook at 5 grade and handling the house is such privilege thing to do. PFFFT people these days 😒

She didn't care about me and I am still leaving alone right now and continue to do better and to be a better person and more understanding and help myself all along even no one's beside me. Taking care of elder people is honorable but definitely not when your own child is forced to talk to her puppies. Seriously? BTW, this girl is a jewel Dear Mom, it is possible that Karma gets you in the future. Perhaps your daughter will „ forget you while being busy and won‘t miss you anymore“! Your son gave up already .

unfortunately... this is a common problem in many households... :( parents work so much to provide for the family and in return... they miss a lot of opportunities to communicate and bond with their children at home. Most of the time... kids with parents like that end up being lost/depressed/rebellious or in other words, they tend to grow up with deep agony and hate their own fam. I'm not generalizing everyone but most of the people I know who came from families like that end up getting depressed or successful (as a revenge for their parents who never really made time for them)... this is just so sad :((((((

I cried so badly while watching this because I used to have my boyfriend to rant to when I was all alone, but now all I could do is just play video games to forget all the bad things. I can relate to her so much, my family is a double-income family too, but I don't have any siblings, so I'm often alone. When I saw her crying while she was trying to talk to her dogs, my tears just rolled down easily. I'm a year older than her, and I have anxiety, insomnia and depression due to the absence of my parents since young. It was my aunt who took care of me too, so when she left (and my mom said that I should learn how to be independent), I immediately felt lonely. I couldn't talk to my friends too, even after how much they said that it's fine and they're trustable. Although my parents aren't that much of a workaholic, but imagine waking up to four walls and falling asleep to four walls. The absence of parents would be dragged along your whole life, I sincerely hope that the mom would change and work lesser to spend time with her family.

When he passed away (just before my university graduation) it hurt so much because I wasn't just losing a pet I was losing my confidante, my best friend and my family member all in one. I hope her mother has changed her ways by the time the dogs are getting older so she can be comforted and won't feel their loss as heavily. Also that hyung is so caring for his little sister I wish my older brothers had been there for me. I wish this family all the best

It will be hard to change the mom's mentality now. But she will be in deep regret when she is old, and her body stops functioning correctly. Her children are really sweet, I can definitely see them taking care of their parents when they get old, despite the fact that they are really hurt by her, more so the daughter bc she is a little bit more sensitive. Sad, but the mom will understand it much later in life when she is being taken care of by her children, she will be filled with regret. A lot of it. Life will hit her hard when she's old, when she realizes what it means to need someone, she'll understand then. Yes we always need more money, we always need to work, but we should realize it is more important to remember to slow down and take the time for ourselves and our loved ones. We can always make money tomorrow, but we cannot turn back the clocks, moments missed are moments gone.

I think I understand her mom a bit, maybe they really have economic issues so her mom really want to work badly.. then she already tired to talk to her child because her works drain so much energy.. But that doesnt mean I dont understand the daughter. I was on the same situation like her at the same age long time ago. I once had a fever when I need to go to school and noone at home but me (those year my schedule on school starts at noon). I hesitated to go to school or not. Then i called my mom. But she didnt believe me and told me not to skip school. I hurt enough to her reply but trying to hold it. than at school when my classmate and teacher found out that I have a high fever and ask me to going home, i started to cry. It was embarassing actually but couldnt hold it anymore. So i went home and my mom very surprised that I was really sick. She was sorry and begging my forgiveness for not believe in me. Later on she really going easy on me and listening to everything I tell.. and even now she still remember those day, and telling me that at that time she was really sorry.. It really can be hurt, when the person you trust the most dont believe you, especially in your lowest condition.

It is one thing to provide for a family, with money and stuff, and another thing to actually raise children, meaning to take the time to bond with and teach them stuff. Asians typically think providing for the family as the bare minimum, and everything is fine, but it's not, bc no one's actually happy. The mom needs to step up her standards of what caring for her children means.

“You’re a woman so you have to do chores” how can she say that as a woman to her own daughter? That’s what you want to teach your daughter? The mom thinks her hard work will pay off, she thinks that her kids will be their with her but In the end the kids will resent their mom and not want anything to do with her.

This is the second time I've watched this episode. I cried even harder this time. This is an example of a woman who should not have had children. Possibly her husband too.

i so understand this girl. growing up in korea with a korean parent, there’s really no free time for you, nor the mom. you as a kid in korea with a korean parent, things are a lot more different. you have afterschool until about 8:30-9:00 Late at night. you need to be twice as better as the kids in USA, you need to get good grades and the teachers are your second parent. your teachers will complain if you get a bad grade, or you’re failing classes. it’s the same for the mom. a lot of moms are workaholic, which is really sad. if you go to a korean supermarket, most of them are moms with kids like the girl in the show. it’s really sad, but this is not very rare here in korea.

I applaud the mom for having the will to work multiple jobs to provide for her family but she is not putting any effort that she cares about her children :( my mom is a single mom that worked two jobs but she always MADE the time to be there for me and my siblings 💖

its important to retain a bond and communication w ur kids ma. My family went through similar but more abusive situation. It lead to a very twisted grudges being formed and little to no communication within the family. It makes me upset how pure and loving the daughter is and how much she yearns for affection as I did when I was a child.

The only thing I realized in watching hello counselor, is that I realized how much so many people work in Korea like they work too much, I know it’s only her concern but like everywhere where I come from ( UAE 🇦🇪) I’m from an Arab country but we don’t usually work a lot, only my dad, now I’m not judging about their struggles, I feel bad I want to hug her since she’s my age and I can feel her when my big bros leave me....

I hope her mother realises that a day may come when she’d want to spend time with her children but her children would be too busy with work and family, so she should make the best of the days she has right now with her kids.

That was so heartbreaking. When the person who said they didn't have a concern because they can do great things with their lives said that I was like no. The probably had some of those talents in the first place. If they had love and family support they could grow more and truly fly. They wouldn't be sad and crying. They would be able to devote more time to their passions and spend less time crying because they don't have an emotional support system

I used to hate my mom when she was working and neglected me. But thank god after we discussed about this problems she decided to resign her job and stay with us all the time. Now i am happy with our current situation. Even though we're not financially well of as before. But i'm happy because my mom always by our side.

In my family this is a normal day stuff , even my birthday is forgotten I've gotten used to it Until my mum became sick and stayed at home even though she was at home I didn't feel the need to talk to her she even travelled for a month I hardly called her So her story is very relatable I hope her mom gives her attention so she does end up like me 🥺

My mom it's kinda like this now since i live in a really 'complicated country' and there's not future for young people and their careers. She went to other country to work and she is really busy most of the time. I talk to her like 2 days in the week and it is stressful, i miss her so much! I know she is doing it for me to have a better future but sometimes it's tiering because she overworks and gets hurt a lot and i am following that unintentionally so i can understand a little bit, i hope her mom can at least be for her and her brother a little bit more or be in important events of them to support them❤

Need to understand Mom. She was raised among 8 siblings... She didn't learn how to give love...yet, she never had enough..so she is trying so hard to get out of her poverty. Mom needs to be loved to love someone. She is out all the time as she feels appreciated outside not at home. When she was young, she wasn't fulfilled so now she is trying to fulfill her, doing the exactly same thing to her own kids. Breaks my hearts... This is not somebody's fault... just need some therapy time as a family and try together to change.. Amazing daughter!!! - what a blessing..Bless her heart!

That mother is so blessed to have a daughter who misses her even if she's away most of the time. Unlike me, who has a bad relationship with my mother, who wants nothing to do with her anymore. Mother, you should reflect on your life right now and maybe make up with your daughter while she still needs you. If you don't, then when it's your turn to need her she won't be there.

She is lucky that her mom is alive even tho she doesn’t take care of her. I lost my parents & my 2 sisters 2 months ago & people are bullying me because I don’t have a family I just have my older brother & it’s really hard for me because I’m only 14 & I’m going through all of this on my own. I don’t even have a dog to talk to😔

I feel bad for the son :(( Not even going to his graduation? Or acknowledging his feelings? I understand she needs to make money, but she's a mother as well. She may want to be noticed for her singing and pursue her own dreams, but she has a commitment as a mother that's being neglected. I hope she works less and cares for her kids more, so that the daughter doesn't go through her whole childhood feeling alone and unloved like the brother did. He had to hold it in :/ Her kids' happiness is worth more than any performance. And time with them won't last forever. If their mom can't show them unconditional love, who will? :(

I feel like this is way more dramatic than it needs to be. I have worked at my parents shop since I was 8 and I am there everyday and I’m now 16. Yes I wish that I could go out after school like my friends but I realise that my mum wants me and my siblings to have a better life because she was smart but couldn’t go to university because she didn’t have money and her family was poor. But I’m very thankful and I no longer wish I could be like my friends

As a parent you need to make out time for your kids. The mother needs to cut down on her jobs. Stick to the ones that give you pay and once a month go out for the one that has no pay. 15 is a critical time when a child needs to bond with her parents and none are available. She's yearning for a relationship with you so don't let it pass by by saying she's independent. I understand the need to work to pay off debts and make her have a comfortable life but of what use is the comfortable life if she's stuck talking to dogs and not having any communication with anyone? She is your child and you will grow old some day. Don't let her bottle up emotions then dish those emotions back to you when you are old and weak. If you cannot make out time to hang out with your children at least be present during special events. Your presence alone without gifts will be much appreciated. Breaking promises with your child is the worst thing you can do to them because then they loose trust in you. If you are a forgetful person put a reminder on your phone for days you need to hang out with your kids. Do it now before it's too late. Having a child who resents you in your old age is as well as you being dead in your present age. Don't use your hand to create a ticking time bomb.
