Hi Phil, wish you would get yourself a heater mate. I feel cold watching you🥶 I remember my son being charged £350 by BMW to change the crank sensor on his 1 series! Very interesting videos these which shows the complexity of the packaging in the the Mini engine. Very nice car this one mate. Upwards and onwards as they say👍

Mate, I feel your pain. I bought a TDV6 Discovery with a snapped crank. I replaced the engine on my drive, only for it not to start with no crank signal. As you can probably guess the reluctor ring was missing, I discovered that after moving the turbo working in the wheel arch, and replacing the sensor and it still did not start. I removed the transfer and gearbox on my back to find the reluctor ring missing, I had to borrow a special tool from a friend at a Land Rover dealer to install it.

I should add, when I came on here to type this, it asked me if I wanted to subscribe! I'm convinced I already had, ages ago. I've clearly resubscribed.

There is a KZfaq channel called LR Time where they do the same (except it was a faulty sensor ring) - but it shows you all the testing with an oscilloscope
@GreaseMonkeysGarage6 ай бұрын
I had a similar issue with the crank sensor / reluctor wheel on an insignia video on my channel. Bodgit mechanics had been in there and crushed the harness with the gearbox. That threw the sensor so had to repair the wiring and refit the reluctor. Issues didn’t stop there 2 flywheels later and a release bearing. I’ve never removed a gearbox so many times…..

I’d say there’s a strong chance the original engine wasn’t seized. It rolled in gear, then the starter wouldn’t crank your new one. Should have done a little more investigating. Either way, still really enjoy your videos!

Great video of an interesting project Phil but I'd have loved more information. How did you do things when you changed the components & installed the engine, did you encounter any problems, any tips for doing stuff up etc? Instead we got music. You met a subscriber outside, would have been lovely to see that, items arriving by van, no footage, how do you source the items & actually get them delivered, not covered, you say the engine or starter motor was full of water, no explanation, the issues with the key, not really explained. I could go on......but won't as it's a very good video overall but maybe write down a few points you want to get across before you start to film & then present them in an informative way.

Once the flywheel is removed there isn't anything actually holding it on, perhaps it just fell off? Or they probably removed it before sending the engine to me.
