When I first saw my new nyc apartment, i fell in love with it… but 2 weeks later I’ve got renter’s remorse. Thats ok, I keep telling myself, in spite of how i feel now, that I made the best rental decision I could at the time it was made. I’ve gotta pay extra for things like the elevator, laundry and parking. Oh well, I can always move if things dont work out. Enjoy the tour!

It's incredible to me how people have normalized $4,000 a month apartments. Landlords are laughing their way to the bank. There is no outrage amongst tenants and as long as there's no outrage our government will laugh their way to the bank too.
@rebel1013
@rebel1013 Жыл бұрын
There is definitely outrage amongst regular NYers, but then you have lots of gentrifying newcomers to the city/boroughs who are willing to pay top dollar for subpar conditions such as this apartment. People think having windows, a dishwasher, or a functioning bathroom - things which are absolutely basic and common in real first world countries/cities and in "developing" countries - are luxurious amenities. They're not. People need to realize this. I'm a born and raised NYer - people need to stop being impressed by receiving the bare minimum in housing and justifying paying $$$$$ for it.

Congratulations to you both!! Just an idea from a mom……when my daughter was Violets age she had a ton of toys also. I divided them into 4 different boxes. Only one box was in use at a time and then I’d switch out the boxes when I thought a change was needed. Believe it or not, at that age, it’s very exciting to them to get “new” toys from a different box. It’ll help a lot to alleviate the clutter.

I have 2 suggestions for charging the bike. First, DON"T. Too much of a fire risk, but if you have a screw in bulb for the light, you could get an adapter that allows you to plug in a 2 prong cord. Second would be to replace the light switch with a receptacle /switch combo from hardware store for about $10 if you would be allowed to that is. Since this video is a year old, you might have moved by now, but anyone else in same boat, here you go.

Congrats on the newest addition, coming soon!! If I can give a bit of unsolicited advice - you should probably pare down the amount of toys that Violet has that are laying about. Seriously, grab a few that are typically ignored, hide them away under your bed or something. If she doesn't ask for them after a few weeks, donate them to charity. Trust me - she won't know or care. In any size living space, with 2 kids you will really need to pare down what child #1 has. Signed, a mother of 2 kids (now grown).

I hear you! Same thing happened to me. Moved into this beautiful large one bedroom apartment on the 21st floor of a high rise in Midtown, but due to the building settling there were tons of cracks above the window creating condensation and mold. It was also freezing in the winter and noise like you can't imagine. Across the street TWO buildings were undergoing construction, one of which was being torn down so another could be built (a six year project). Woke up to jack hammers and the unit shaking every morning at 6am. There was also a firehouse one block away, so tons of sirens Worst part, 21 floors below were two metal plates on the street. Every time a car/bus/truck passed over it you would hear this horrible thumping sound. Just a nightmare!!! Everything was run down with no renovations made to this "luxury building" in over 22 years. All of this for $4,100 a month. In the processing of working with the landlord to move to another unit.

The bike into work scares me a little. What happens in the winter? Your temp solution for an office seems to work out. But, I don’t think it’s a permanent solution! Does NYC have a rent a space office? In Columbus there is a place that has a receptionist and a bunch of small offices. You rent one for the month and rent others as you need them. For instance, when you need a conference room, you rent it for the day you need it. So, you don’t carry all the overhead.

Those can be quite useful and efficient. However, real estate is well-suited to remote work; there is just no reason to have an office if you work on a reasonably small scale. If you frequently see clients face to face, maybe you need a separate office, but in real estate you do the face to face thing at the site under consideration or at the convenience of the client's office or home. You don't make them come to your office and then go out to the site; you meet at the site (at least in New York City and other dense big cities).

Washer-dryer combos are best for people without kids or for people who don’t rely on the dryer function. I have one, and I only use the dryer setting for my towels. The rest air dries. It’s also better for your clothes/ linens.

Washer/Dryer Combos can be great, but when its a non-vented one yea it takes forever to dry stuff. Some combos have the option to vent or not vent but in an apartment that isnt set up for the venting you'll have to bear with the non-vented long dry times.

Congrats on the new place and baby #2!!! The apt is very cute! A couple of suggestions from a grandmother......A trip to Ikea would give you ALLLLLL the "things" needed to make it work a LOT better for you however! I recommend the Stall or Hemnes shoe cabinet for the entryway....and maybe make "your office" Violets and the new baby's bedroom, putting your desk further on the wall towards the bath area, and a small cradle / bassinet next to the bed until baby CAN sleep thru the night, and transition to the crib in the "kids" room. Also, ya'll have a ton of wallspace you can utilize! shelving ideas a plenty at Ikea! ( can you tell I'm a BIG fan of that store?? LOL....)

I like your new office. It works for now. I also like your new place. Depending on how long you want to stay at your new place, you may consider a Murphy bed after the baby is born and your wife is able to put the bed up and down effortlessly once she is fully recovered. She may need the extra space for when the baby begins to crawl. Also, you may consider either an island instead of a dining room where you can put high chairs on one side of the table so you can open up the fridge while sitting on the other side. Or you can get a functional drop table attached from the wall. You only put it out when you are about to eat meals. The rest of the time it will be out of sight, out of mind and you can use the extra walking area. You may end up doing just that or move out once the baby begins to move around the apartment.

I like the new apartment! It definitely seems like a step or two up from your last one. You may not need the second bathroom now, but it might come in handy when your kids start getting older. One for the kids, and one for the adults. I like the balcony, even though it is pretty narrow. A good place for one person to sit outside and enjoy the weather and enjoy a coffee. I like the open concept kitchen and living room. It may be a bit pricey, but you've shown some one bedrooms that were this price and higher. Overall, it seems like a pretty good deal for a 2 bed/2 bath in NYC. I'm also loving the new office!
