If they feel they are at risk on my property then there's a really quick solution to that. Get off my property.

Great information on Crapita's latest tactics, CJ. Forewarned is forearmed! This device, even in "standby" mode, is constantly recording, otherwise how could it capture video before it is "activated"? No way would I take at face value any assurances from Crapita that there is a "loop" that gets overwritten every 90 seconds when the device isn't "activated".

Did i understand you correctly when you said the cameras record in a continuous loop but are only saved when the officer taps the camera to save the video? If so that means they are recording on your property as soon as they leave the pavement to enter your land, is this even legal? Id love to see The Black Belt Barrister look at this.

Has anyone mentioned the following. Went to renew tv licence with £157.50 before increase to £159. Post Office refused payment as price WAS GOING UP. I had offered the £157.50 as that was what was on renewal form. Since then have not watched BBC OR ANY LIVE STREAM EVENTS.

Just some clarification required here: 1. They are correct when they say that the video does not record (Ex-Police Officer - Our BWV operated on the same basis). The Video's run on a pre-calibrated cycle (I.E 60 seconds) when in standby mode. Once the Camera is switched on, it pulls the prior 60 seconds into the record. However, in theory, if the entire engagement was less than 60 seconds, they could press 'Record' and capture it as they leave the property. 2. The £10 fee was removed when GDPR came into play. 3. The Salesmen are fully entitled to request whether they can Film the event for Safety reasons, however the Homeowner is also fully entitled to deny the request, and suggest that they leave the property if they feel threatened. 4. If you reach a junction where any of the above have become a concern or a point of interest...you have messed up, and taken the Goons bait. The entire exchange with them should be no more than 5 words. ''Who are you?'' ''No Thanks''. If their video is looking at anything other than a closed door at this point, you have room for improvement in your script.

I had a visit last month saying I don't have a Licence. Just told them don't watch TV only watch KZfaq, Netflix and prime video. He said no problem I'll put u don't so u don't have a visit. Last week I had a letter saying I'm breaking the law.

The hand held device: he's tapping in, " door answered by male, 30's 40's, blonde, bald, stocky, defensive etc, or pleasant and doesn't need licence etc, or just no.14, door answered by male etc, or he has boxes to tick like "visited" "answered" male" "30's" etc

there is no charge for getting a copy of your data, the £10 fee was done away with a couple of years ago, it was considered that companies were collecting our data without our consent so why should we have to pay £10 to dozens of different companies to check what data they have collected on us

It's just a handheld scanner/terminal they use. The lights at the end are for Infra red for scanning barcodes and aren't cameras - just like the staff in Asda or Tesco use when checking shelf stock.

They cannot by law, film on private property, without the owners prior permission. Could be a grey area if you are in a rented property. That could mean they could have got it from the council, or housing association etc. Either way, they should ask, or inform you if they are not stood on public land when filming. Even the police have to notify you if they switch on a bodycam when talking to you, and you can request it by a SAR within a time limit. Anyone is entitled to film anything they can see from a road, pavement or public space. Once they cross the boundary of your property it's a different situation, it is not public land.

We should be supporting people like chilli. They help us people not to get bullied by big companies like BBC. So the least we could do is donate to this wonderful cause. Thank you chilli for your time and effort in helping vulnerable people.

As a tech nerd I’m guessing what they are carrying is a cheap Android phone/tablet with a specially designed case (which could include a camera but more likely a microphone) and they are using a poorly made app which is a calendar and task list. It will probably be something like this: Date and time (saved for records) Name and address of person they are visiting A few tick boxes with some standard questions like saying they have a license or don't need one or to sod off. My mum used to work for the local authority years ago and she had some god awful device like this and it looks similar to this.

The last time these twonks called on my mate 'Dave' a small portable old tube TV was dropped from the 1st floor onto a patio 4 meters from where the 'inspector 'stood. He left unharmed and no malice was intended or felt because the telly was not working either.

All the more reason to not even open your door - unless you're expecting a friend or family member. Even if you are, I always keep the door closed and ask who it is before opening it. Use your phone's voice recorder to record the 'conversation' with any Goon visits through that closed door - a conversation which will/should only consist of "No thanks, goodbye" or at most "I don't legally require a TV Licence, goodbye". If they come when you're outside, this also justifies you filming them if they're going to be filming you, and the same 'conversation' rules apply.

Be interested to find out if there is a camera in that tippy tappy either way Mr Goon will not be making an appearance in my front room any time soon.

A little note for Dashcams, every x number of months (depends on the model) you are better off formatting it as it will start to fail to record. Nextbase cameras do this after about 6 months.

I had a similar device when I was a meter reader. It's basically a very crappy handhold computer that can be configured by the companies that use them. Fairly basic data can be put on there and it can send and receive data,ie new jobs, through 3G mobile. They have scanning abilities, hence the lenses on the front. There are probably ones with a camera but I wouldn't be shocked if there isn't as the memory capacity on them are usually very poor.

If they are making use of their body camera then via the BBC ( their employer) people should make a "Subject Access" request to view the footage. The BBC is a public body and must respond by Law

I'm sorry, but nobody has a right to film anything or anyone when on Private Property without the owners consent first. The so called, Get-Out clause is that they turn it on if they feel threatened in some way, then they should just leave the property that they have called immediately or not enter on property in the first place. Their job is to collect evidence against you and do wonder if they capture evidence of watching TV on their device it becomes admissible in court so as to obtain a warrant to search the property? Their argument may run along the lines that if a crime or suspicion of crime is being committed they have the right to collect evidence to present the courts etc. Possibly stepping up a gear because of the number of people cancelling and want to make an example to deter others.

SAR are free, they used to be £10 but this was repealed by the EU under GDPR 2018 and GDPR still stands.

Well if they don't like how they're being talked to they can just 180 and do one then they're on public property where they can happily film away. I think we've had enough data leaks to say companies cannot be trusted when they have access to privacy and that loop will only work when one of them is compromised.

Surely its not legal for them to enter uninvited onto a persons private property, then record a person (or door answering child) and capturing images into a property !

I have used those hand held motorolas they are simply a data carrier that can download lists of addresses and display them in the order the properties are to be visited, they also hold drop down menus with various checkboxes and all data can be uploaded at the end of the day. ASDA home shopping drivers used to use them (which is where i used them) there is no camera or provision for cameras in these gadgets. Basically they are a pad and pen without the pad or the pen.

Haven't read other comments to see if this has been clarified, but many modern cameras have a mode, on Gopro's it's called 'hindsight', it's even appearing on phones these days when you have your camera app open, and hit record, it can start from the previous X seconds, without being enabled to record before. It works how it's being described, basically always recording a small amount, and when you hit 'record' it starts from the previous X seconds. Similar to a dash cam loop recording, but notably different

Since the GDPR regs, they cannot charfe a fee for a subject access request unless it is manifestly unfounded or excessive. This will not be the case.

From my experience of visits (only 2), they will: 1. Refuse (at least initially) to leave when instructed to do so. 2. Try to get your personal details. 3. Note the tactics used. If (when you answer the door), they ask "Mr Smith?" (for example), what they are really trying to do is confirm your identity. Just acknowledging in the affirmative gives them something about you (which they may suspect, but you have now confirmed.) 4. The tactics they use are typical high-pressure sales tactics. The objective is to keep you talking - as soon as the door is closed in their faces, they've lost. 5. Politeness. - we feel bound by the rules of politeness - and they will exploit that against you. Don't let them.

Even police policy states that the police have to inform you that they are recording, they CANNOT film in your home without your consent; H&S legislation dictates thet nobody should put them in a position of danger so if they feel threatened they should immediately leave, remain and they break the law.

Jon, firstly I really like your channel, but I am having to watch it on my phone, so I can’t see some of the close up details sometimes, but from what I could see of the device that you are talking about, to me it looks identical to the P.D.A. device that we were issued with when I was working at Royal Mail for getting a signature from customers that were receiving recorded or special delivery items, in which case it would only be capable of recording bar codes via the “lens” or signatures via the touch screen, which is sometimes hard to see without holding it at an odd angle. However it has been over 12 years since I left the PO and the devices may have been upgraded since. I am looking forward to seeing the results of your appeal and keep on giving us your advice.

Photography may be prohibited or restricted by a property owner on their property. However, a property owner generally cannot restrict the photographing of the property by individuals who are not within the bounds of the property.

Question: I have no access to either ariel or satellite dish. I recieve no live tv and my tv has never been tuned into live tv channels. My smart tv has a BBC Iplayer app and cannot be removed from the TV but have never logged into it. All I watch is Netflix, Amazon Prime and KZfaq. Do I need a tv licence? I have had several letters from TV licensing but they always address it to the occupier.

They are general purpose scanners and the window in the end is for scanning bar codes etc. Some of them have a camera which is on the back, just like a mobile phone. Look up Symbol Scanners. You can put SIM cards in some of them too.

it's a PDA as used by delivery companies, all that top part is, is a barcode scanner so not a camera. There is usually however a camera on the back, the same as a smartphone, hope this helps Jon

Received a letter yesterday, I, noticed it was enquiring if, I would be in, on, the 23rd when it was on the way to the bin. I'll be sure to miss the dogs breakfast that day.

Have watched a few of these videos on KZfaq. It looks like the licence enforcers are trained to wait for the person who opened the door to speak first. I would love to see one where the home owner opens the door and just stands there.
