Cancelled my tv licence this year. Actually given up watching all tv except for a bit of (non-live) You Tube, and I feel better for it. Most stuff on TV seems a bit irrelevant now.

Excellent! Its about educating people, if you dont watch the iplayer, and live TV or consume any of the bbc services, then cancel your TV licence now. I cancelled my licence a couple of years ago, never heard anything from them since. I begrudged having to fill in the online form to do it, but only provided an email address and nothing else. Its disgraceful the way the BBC operate, and fear monger people in to paying for one. The TV licence has no justification any more. It has become irrelevant.

So I just moved back to the England from living in the USA for 15 years. Just moved into my new place and with four weeks had a letter from the TV Licence people, threatening me with visits and fines if I don't get a license, I don't even have a TV yet. It's bullying and harassment and that's what should be illegal. It's disscusting .

I Cancelled last year after paying for almost 20 years, I went through all the proper guidelines "which they don't make EASY" Since last Sep 2019 the goons have been at my door many times including Christmas eve, it really does piss me off that even when you cancel the sheer fact they come knocking is them doubting / challenging my cancellation. I haven't had a license for the past 13 years this year and the last visit I got was about 6/7 yrs back. When they turned up I told them to wait @ the door (which I had shut in their face) grabbed my aerial cable and gave it to them with socket attached. The look on the guys face was priceless. Cancelled 3 years ago, never looked Back, do it online or over the phone it's easy enough.

This what drives me mad, they are so disingenuous with their notice cards implying any on demand services like Prime Video also need a license, but you then scrutinise the actual law by visiting the tv licensing website and it clearly states you do not need a license to watch on demand services for Prime , Netflix etc.

I don't have a TV licence a find between Netflix, Disney+, Catch-up TV and KZfaq I really don't miss broadcast television. This is especially do since I work shifts and not around for scheduled programming AND Freeview is only low quality pic and not HD which most TVs are nowadays, that's if they're not 4K UHD.

I phoned BBC licensing today to cancel my BBC license went though all the automated questions only to be told all operators where busy and unable to take my call. I did this several times today before going on line and at last cancelled my BBC license . Thank you for all your help with you information, much appreciated

Write to TV Licensing and revoke their implied right of access to your property. Add that you will consider any visit as harassment and that you will present a copy of this letter as evidence that they have been so advised. If they then come without warrant, they have no defence to a charge of harassment.

I rang up and got through quickly. The lady I spoke to was really helpful. Not really any awkward questions and she helped me with my refund. Highly recommend to be fair.

I decided not to renew mine about three and half years ago and I was able to watch 100% of what I wanted to watch. At that point, I hadn't watched live TV for about 3 years and there was nothing I was watching on BBC anyway.

This video is important and helpful. There is so much confusion. I read what type of viewing (E. G. Downloading, streaming etc. Etc) of the TV licensing website. It is so confusing, much of which requiring a licence (but in a side column much of which is qualified by BBC iPlayer). I am now persuaded that the BBC is a morally bankrupt organisation, and will stoop to any level to protect its immoral income. Apart from cancelling one's licence I know of no way to force it to heel. I fear it will cause change in the law to defend its interests no matter what. Shame on them, shame on them, shame on them.

Hi, I have 1 question that in my smart tv there are few aaps are built in which is BBC Iplayer and other BBC apps. I tried deleting from my TV but it wont let me delete these apps. Ive not had a licence for 8 years, just have Netflix, had all the letters ect for few years, used them for lighting my logburner, I do like this man's style, it's the sport of not giving money to the bbc really

My TV is on for most of the day. I use it as a second screen for the computer. I don't watch live TV. iPlayer is not not 1080p and many Freeview and Freesat channels are as low as 544x576 and radio stations at below 128Mbit/s or in mono when FM is stereo. If you are not watching or recording off air channels don't pay a license. £13 a month for access to all the channels on Freesat and Freeview being able to skip all advertisements (I record what I may watch) is a good deal.

I've cancelled mine today and the phone call to TVL was not challenging and the operator was not obstructive, quite the opposite. Although, they did have their formalities to check I understood.

I've never had TV licence in 27 years since leaving home.

Been watching your channel for sometime and have been LLF for 2 years without any problems and don't miss MS Tv one bit. KZfaq and other catch up channels as well as my 1000 + hours of DVD viewing more than makes up for the loss of BBC content etc + £ 157.50 better off.

Surely the term live should only apply if the program you watch is actually being broadcast live? Otherwise, almost everything else is pre-recorded and then broadcast, so therefore, not live.

Thank you! To me the license is a complete waste of money because the only program I would ever watch live/BBC iPlayer is ‘The Apprentice’! Obviously that’s only on for 12 weeks a year and because of COVID, it wasn’t even on this year so where was the point in paying for it? I happily pay for my KZfaq premium so that I don’t have to watch the adverts and that’s it I don’t need to pay for anything else.

The law says you need to be covered by a TV Licence to: watch or record programmes as they’re being shown on TV, on any channel watch or stream programmes live on an online TV service (such as ITV Hub, All 4, KZfaq, Amazon Prime Video, Now TV, Sky Go, etc.) download or watch any BBC programmes on iPlayer. This applies to any device you use, including a TV, desktop computer, laptop, mobile phone, tablet, games console, digital box or DVD/VHS recorder.

you ONLY need a TV license for TV as it is broadcast and BBC iplayer, catchup TV or pre-recorded not at time of broadcast TV, streamed services that are not broadcast TV is fine to watch.

Great video. This is what is needed. The "Live TV" description covers a multitude of sins, and was surely designed to be as confusing as possible to aid the conviction rate. If you begrudge giving the BBC any money don't go anywhere near Britbox as surely the BBC will receive some more revenue from that (on top of what we paid them to make that service's shows all those years ago). Also, any chance of a similar video specifically about news programming. I'm assuming news/weather shows are classed as live TV and many of my relatives watch live news on BBC, ITV etc. What "non-live" or streaming alternatives are there to the hour/half-hour evening news shows that we have in the UK? KZfaq news is mostly just snippets specific to one story and i can see that navigating between stories would be a bit off-putting to some . It would make things less complicated if we could recommend other video based news sources that follow the format (minus the bias) of our nightly news shows, and that can be legally watched without a TV license. Thanks for all your hard work thus far.

Do you have to inform them to cancel or can you just stop the direct debit from your bank? The reason I'm asking is because TV licensing website have made it impossible to cancel it online now, they want you to phone them up instead and to be honest I don't want to do that.

What about live cameras showing points of interest from all round the world? For example, fixed cameras showing nesting sites throughout the summer or others showing natural interest scenes all year round. They are not programmes, there is no commentary but they do transmit a LIVE picture.

The biggest con is on those who watch live TV from foreign broadcasts. We have a dish pointed at 13E (central European stuff) but BBC still think they are entitled to a slice. Why? It's like paying a Tesco licence even though you shop at Aldi. Needs to be scrapped. I just wish everyone would just refuse to pay. It would be the end of it overnight. You should be able to watch any live channel not funded by the BBC, i mean us and not pay the licence fee. Like me if you have Sky they should be able to turn the BBC off.

Thanks for explaining the concept of a TV license to this very confused Canadian. Most people here have had to pay for cable or satellite packages since the early '70s but you could always use an analog antenna for free. Antennas made a comeback in 2011 with digital over the air HDTV free for the "grabbing".

when the bbc started broadcasting in 1923 it charged a licence fee to listen and when they started tv in 1946 a licence was needed but then they were the only broadcasting company but now there are hundreds of tv stations so how can they demand a licence fee for anyone watching any of these stations ,they don,t own them they do not have the monopoly and havent for years
