While you talked during your opening monologue I was able to pause my tablet and sketch you in Prismacolor pencils. It turned out to my satisfaction. Your studio is huge....wow! I like your sensible list and outlook for this mega clear-up. especially the _"do small areas at a time instead of getting overwhelmed by the whole mess."_ Throwing out good cardboard, empty boxes and tins is hard, isn't it! But the problem is when we've just thrown something out and not long after, spend time searching for it because it would be ideal for something else, before realising that it went into the recycling bin! You didn't mention the stress of not knowing if you'd still have a dad, or if you as a family would be dealing with a scary diagnosis, fleeing from bush fires, taking Dad back to Melbourne with you, none of you knowing if he'd have a home to go back to. You also didn't mention that mega-storm, and other things that have piled on the stress pressure. That you've managed to keep up with making videos and keeping a cheery face / voice over has shown your strength of character, but it isn't easy, I know. And Becky, I really, deeply admire and appreciate you! 🤗🫂🤗🫂🤗🫂

Good for you!! Every single time I’ve had to do a “big” declutter, it’s always been the hardest to get started. I admire those folks who can get by with minimal supplies and be completely happy, I am not one of those people 😂. I am a collector at heart and every craft/hobby that I’ve cycled through has ended up in increasing my collection of supplies 😅. Congrats on your 10k subscribers and the new Cricut! I had one of the older Cricut models years ago and loved it. I used it for years of paper-crafting and card making (and my son used it for school projects too). Paper supplies take a lot of room in my craft room, but I can’t part with the pretty papers. Good luck keeping up the momentum… now that you’ve shared the project with everyone, hopefully it helps!!

I always love watching a decluttering video before I start my own declutter. I'm on a tight budget so I haven't really collected a lot of paints or brushes that I don't like. Sketchbooks are one thing I have bought a few duds of but rather than trash them I've pulled some apart to use for scrap paper to test color mixes on or to write notes on, so even they have been getting used up. There's around 20 more watercolor paints I want to try, and 12 more watercolor pencils I want to buy over the next little while and then I think it'll just be replacements as I need them. I have a list of 8 Promarkers that I want to buy to try with my urban sketching. I think right now the only thing I really need to add to our stash is some good watercolor pads/blocks for larger projects outside of our sketchbooks. So far we've stayed within the sketchbooks but it would be nice to get some of our art up on the walls. If I'm guilty of collecting anything, it's pencil cases, pouches and bags, anything to carry your art supplies around in. I keep looking for the perfect thing but each falls short in some way. I used to have the same problem with camera bags. These days I just use a padded insert in a regular backpack. It works well and leaves space for my art supplies too. I think I'm becoming more minimal with age or maybe I just have more of an idea of what I like and don't like and once I find what I like I don't stray from that. I've become more decerning with age or maybe lazy, I hate wandering around in stores hunting for things 😂

I love studio clean-up videos!!!! That meeden watercolor paper you put in the donation box is actually REALLY good paper...it's the Boahong watercolor paper white labeled. If you haven't tried it, you definitely should- it's incredible 100% cotton watercolor paper- some prefer it over Arches. Anyway can't wait to see the next few cleanup videos in the series! Great tips and great job so far! I'm someone who likes to see all of my things most of the time, but that lends itself to surfaces getting cluttered often. It always feels good to get even one area tidied up again.

And this corner, we call the dumping ground. I was laughing so hard I wish I’d taken a picture of my studio a week ago I literally had leaning tower of pieces of junk. Absolutely everywhere. There wasn’t a surface, including the floor that wasn’t stacked up high with precariously leaning piles of junk it was very satisfying to get down to a reasonably clean area, but it is amazing what you accumulate. I do understand the mental health side of it when Papa passed away in March. It got to me not being able to create very much or handle things because there was so much else to do, but a happy art room, and a clean art room makes a happy memake sure you put yourself first only when you look after yourself and you’re you’re okay can you look after others?

i hope this year will be better for you. its so intimidating to start cleaning up after being too overwhelmed to do it for a while. ive got adhd and as soon as i have some aspect in my life where i feel overwhelmed in, i feel overhelmed by everything at all that i have to do, and tidying is most of the time the first thing i let slide when i get to that state. its admirable that youve managed to start this! its always really satisfying, seeing someone decluttering :)

I've had my art/craft room and office in various stages of mess but now that my room is so much smaller (with nearly the same amount of stuff), I'm having to keep it really clean (well, there is a bit of a pile on the floor...). I hope the clean up is going well - great tips!

I give you credit. I don't clean. I don't organize. I don't pretend to be wise enough or competent enough to do this things. I hire ppl to do it for me. Which means I exchange getting new art supplies for labor. Not too bright eh. But ten again I can no longer stand or lift my arms above my chest so I don't really have a choice lol. Unless I finally give up entirely that is lol. Not to bring up hard times, but Hope all this organizing has given you a sense of control during such trying times. Glad it's all working out.

You're totally not the only one. I only now got all (or 90% or so) of my collage/scrapbooking supplies in one place...which is a shopping tote. Better than five or more boes, and lots of piles, but it still scares me. Cheering you on!

I'm a little of the opposite to you, when I want to get stuff done. I have to start with the worst thing first, because I know once that's done, the rest will be easier. I have so much clutter. Our formal living area is currently unusual. It has boxes and boxes from hubby. We need to unbox, but don't know where to put things. Hubby moved out in 2020 being such a shit year. It was the most difficult year of my life I can tell you. We both lost close friends to cancer before 2020, so mentally we weren't at our best. Anyway I always expected him to return and he did, but we ended up with 2 houses of stuff and the front room is his boxes. It's been there a year but we don't know what to do it where to start. He wants to get started post covid for us (since we have had it the last couple of weeks) and I'll be happy to have that room back. It's my favourite space in the house. It has a beautiful library bookcase, complete with a cute ladder, I bought when he left and the most comfortable couch, I also got then and a fireplace. It's just a lovely formal reading library. As far as my art studio, I have way too much stuff and might have just bought more on Amazon today. They actually have some great sales on art supplies. I got 24x30 pastel mat, which has 4 colours down $40 to around $30, so it's a huge sale. Then I got the Faber Castell Pitt Pastels 60 set for 25% off. I've enjoyed pastels for some quick drawings and therefore I'm happy to have more paper and what's the point of paper without the pencils? 😂 I do have a cheap set too, I've been using, so this will be the nicer one. Yet with work and life and having to take care of that room, it's hard to draw as much as I want to. I do have so much art stuff, but I figured, the pencils and paper will last me a long time. Plus pastel drawings take less time for me than colour pencils, so I'll be able to practice more in those down time hours. If I died and someone has to go through that room, they would be shocked at what I have 😂 I'm practically Tetris world champion.

Thanks for sharing your tips for a major decluttering project! Just getting a list and bins together is a great start. You definitely aren’t the only one. My home office is quite a mess and I’ve attacked it a few times since moving a year ago, yet there’s so much to do! Like you, a parent recently major surgery and I had to live there for a bit to take care of her. It’s a holiday weekend here in the US, so I’m hoping to go through a few boxes at least using some of your tips as inspiration. I hope you’re feeling better and getting some rest.

I have to organize my art supplies someday soon. Currently moving…. Or suppose to be packing to move. I am not looking forward to it. I am the queen of procrastination. Why do today what can be put off till another day. Lol. I like your ideas about starting easy and with not getting overwhelmed. I need to remember that. I am kinda a whole picture person. I get frustrated too easily because i cant step back and break things into easy steps. My current list for packing is breaking it way down.. for example clean out one bookcase, pack and organize one dresser. Throw away expired makeup (dont weat much but i hate throwing stuff away thats not emptied).

If you still have your donation stuff could I suggest giving it to the Melbourne Clinic in Richmond Victoria they have an art therapy program there for people with mental health issues and they are always very happy and appreciative of donations. I often give to them when I go in for TMS therapy. The art therapist that is the head there is name Sylvia and she’s a lovely lady. they also love to collect small boxes that they turn into things in our therapy. Cardboard magazines. I’m desperately looking for anti-pencil tins

Have you thought about getting rid of some of your storage solutions and giving yourself more room to move. You can’t possibly be using all that stuff.
