Both designers/developers definitely seem good at what they do! I'd be curious how much of this was your ability to provide the right level of detail in your description of what you want, and/or their ability to ask the right questions to draw out the necessary information from you. You can have a designer that does amazing work, but without the "right" communications, you won't get what you're looking for. Cool stuff overall!

absolutely phenomenal... 1st design was GREAT and I'd 100% recommend them. that being said, wow... can totally see the value in going high-end. 2nd site is FLAWLESS. as someone who knows enough to (eventually) make a site that's "decent" this video has convinced me to user fiver should the need arise. compared to me bumbling around for months, only to end up with something half as good... soooo worth going fiver, and especially one of the 2 you used. thanks a bunch!

I am curious about the backend functionality on the 3k site. I get not wanting to show it, but that can make a difference in being happy to live with after the infatuation wears off.

You basically paid 3k for the slider. Hit me up, and I'll get you something incredible. Web dev for over 20 years and big fan of yours for about 4 years.

Even if it seems a little low, $3k is definitely well into 'can I just suggest a few tweaks?' territory. I know I've gone back to slightly rework 'finished' projects when the client realised something wasn't quite right. And hey, at the quality you saw there, I think you can be pretty confident your money's well spent if you did want to commission a more substantial update.

It feels like you got a good "you get what you pay for" experience. It's a bit like gear: x dollars gets you X quality, 10x dollars gets you 10X quality, and you can spend any amount you want. Low $ is meh but ok to start out, medium $$ is pro-sumer, big time $$$ is elite.

wordpress design isnt always just putting together plugins. personally I usw like 1-2 plugins per site and make everything custom and code more. Wordpress is nice for Customers who wanna edit stuff on the site but I prefer vue/nuxt

Lord have mercy!! He's just like all clients. You do exactly what they want and they still want to make changes. Make sure your agreement have a limited amount of changes then charge for anything pass the limit.

To those who say $3K is way too much for a front page website like this have clearly never been in the web design industry, nor have any concept of how long web development and design actually takes. I'm no full-stack dev or anything, but I have built local web pages before, and ensuring every piece of the CSS and JavaScript play well with each other inside of HTML that wasn't built for those applications, it's a time-consuming process. And that's the other aspect of it, time. The page was built from scratch, which inherently increases its value due to the time it takes, and the fact that it's infinitely more customizable than any templated service like WordPress or Squarespace. You also have to consider on a dev side, if this is your sole source of income and you're spending two weeks designing a site, you better make sure you're getting paid for that amount of time, or you're not paying your bills and covering expenses. So all in all, $3K for that amount of time isn't that much.

These videos always make me nervous. I have a little experience making websites, but I'm not a designer at all and that stuff tends to be a major headache. There's so many ways to break it.

as a front end developer, the $180 guy did great and the $3500 guy, even with a backend, was over priced. That 1 page probably took him a few hours to create. Nothing special. Obviously I cant see the back end where Im sure most of the hours went but the front end is just basic css/js

I look forward websites that "do it for me". If I have to learn how to browse a website and it's not intuitive, they lose me and I move on. Websites should be a knowledgeable, capable server, not a self-serve buffet with no labels or serving utensils.
