I was disappointed. The thumbnail was titled "Promissory Notes" but the bulk of the post was advocating investing in silver. By the time you have paid the 25% vat and any dealers commission, I am not sure how good an investment it is likely to be? I was more interested in the subject of promissory notes. There was no opportunity to read Daves promissory note or covering letter. Has anyone had any experience of these working, particularly in respect of paying a court fine? I would be interested to read the templates of anybody who has had any success.

You get the VAT back when you sell. You can sell silver for the same price it costs to buy it from a dealer with VAT

Remember watching a video when a guy paid his gas bill with a promissory note brtish gas refused to accept his the promissory note the judge said it was a valid form of payment . He took the bill giro CREDIT slip the bottom part of the bill filled in the amount on the slip got three stamps put then below the bottom line it was then stamped by the post office and other things done on the slip . British gas refused to accept it as payment and the judge allowed it as a legal means of settlement of the debt . The slip on the bottom of the gas bill is a giro credit with two accounts numbers on it . We then use to take it to the bank /Postoffice and pay it again .

Totally wrong with regard £ Sterling. In Anglo Saxon times, yes it was weight of silver. Later the BOE used gold. The link with gold was finally broken in 1931 (see in particular The Currency and Bank Notes Act 1928 and The Gold Standard (Amendment) Act 1931) when the UK came off the gold standard, and since that time there has been no other asset into which holders have the right to convert Bank of England notes. They can only be exchanged for other Bank of England notes. This is not suspended, it's just not possible. Additionally his reference to Lord Denning was specific to a particular agreement. The person who issued the promissory note reneged on their promise to pay by a certain date.

@@clairedelune1431 yup. promissory notes are debt. 2 party transaction. same as handing a dollar/pound over in commerce. signature + a numerical value = investment doc. bills of exchange are a 3 party transaction where a bank is the go-between. (like a check) BOE draws off the Credit that the gov generated via the Trust investment birth certificate they created. it requires a signature, a value and an account number. the account in our name is what THEY want access to. this is why they force EVERYONE to sign stuff. it generates an authorization from a Trustee to access the account. THEY must get this from us, or they will fold.

There seems to be a crucial flaw in understanding here. Writing a promissory note for the value of a debt does NOT pay off the debt, as that "Promise to Pay" is technically identical to the original loan agreement when you would have "promised to pay" the debt in the first place. You have merely replaced one promise with another...you are still indebted to that promise of equal value. If you have no intention of fulfilling that promise, then the piece of paper with the promise written upon it is literally worthless.

But the £5 promissory note from the government is attached too. If they don't have to honour their promise to pay, then neither do you. It's that simple. If the courts try to make you honour your promissory note, then you can make the government honour theirs. The government can't honour it because they don't have enough silver, therefore you can't be made to honour your note either.

@@clairedelune1431 The "promise to pay" from the bank of england is redeemed whenever you buy something to the value that promise has...though the promise is no longer attached to gold or silver, it still has a value, as decided by the currency markets. Your handwritten promise is only worth your ability to provide something that is accepted for that value. Unless you have something to offer that is valued by the person holding your promise, then it has zero value.

Think of account cards which have been issued to employees. One person might be able to buy milk, coffee and sugar etc, whilst another employee might only be able to buy fuel to fill up a company vehicle. Digital currency would allow the government the same level of control in a cashless society.

All the cash - the promises to pay that are in circulation have been used to pay and repay over and over. Everytime a note is used a bill, a bill of exchange, a receipt is given. That bill represents proof of the promise kept. Banks are the money changers, they convert our lawful money to their legal tender. The bills we receive represent the banks unsettled promise to pay. Redeem our bill and give us back those promises. They were never your promises. Return them to the source for cancellation and take all that money back and we will take it out of circulation. No stage 3 just to rinse and repeat. Its time to move forward not time to keep going back.

@@michaelah523There are lots of online retailers but remember you will always pay more than what it's worth. Like buying a gold ring. You ar paying retail for it so understand that if you want to buy as a tool for barter you won't get sweat equity (or goods) back equal to what you paid for it. If you want to buy for investment then like the stock market it will go up and down but over a long period you 'should' be a few quid up 🙏

I saw that silver coins will be used at face value, therefore if it says two pounds on it then it will be taken as that value and not spot price. Therefore is it better to buy bars rather than coins? A lot of the numerous sensationalists silver and gold channels on here say the best to buy is coins. Now I know why. Probably best to buy bars with no face value to them?

I heard that spot price means nothing - it is manipulated. The true value is not reflected in the spot price. I guess when there is a revaluation in stage 3 then £1 will buy you much more than it does now. Therefore same will be true of a silver coin with face value of two pounds.

Peace. Precious metals are promoted as means by which to guarantee our future economic solubility. It still perplexes me as to why those who have gold are willing or wanting to exchange it for promisory, fiat notes. Whatever are they planning to do with all those incoming promisory, fiat notes? Wouldn't they be better off by keeping gold in their possession?Another concern is we, as lay people, do not have expertise to ascertain whether gold and silver in our possessions are actually bonafide metals. "You can write your own promissory notes" This is true...but only in so far as you can create your own gift vouchers. However the actual value of such notes is only relative to value of the product or service which such vouchers can be redeemed for. If you are a businessman, who's produce is demanded by many people, those people would value a voucher of particular value. However if you are just an individual who offers nothing, then any voucher you print or write will be worth NOTHING.

@@WSmith_1984 A loan certificate that you sign for £1000 and promise to repay, is worth £1000 to the holder (ie. the bank) so long as you actually honour your promise and repay it. Otherwise it is worthless. So long as £10 will allow you to purchase goods or services of value, then it is worth the value of those goods or services. While this isn't intrinic value, and can fall to zero in some circumstances, at the present time you will still use £10 as though it is worth something. Stop pretending otherwise and proving yourself silly.

@@WSmith_1984 As an aside...ironically one of the least valuable notes in my possession is actually the most valuable. It is a Zimbabwean 100 Trillion Dollar Note, that became worthless when the currency collapsed. I bought it from eBay in 2009 for a grand total of £1.50. Because it has collectable value, is historic (the most zeros ever printed to a banknote), is relatively scarce and they aren't printing any more...it is now worth over 100 times this amount!

If you having been following the markets, you will all know that the silver broke the $30 mark on Friday which has been a big signal for where this metal is heading. I for one have been stacking for years and people should consider it as along term investment and protection against what is fast coming down the line. There is still time but the window of opportunity is closing before the big move starts. Holding as little as 20 ounces puts you in the 10% of the population as most have no idea of it’s future value….

Just to add, this would make forged notes legal tender, were this actually to be acceptable to people that hold goods for which cash is traditionally exchanged. We already know the lengths criminals go to forge money, if it was only the wording that made it cash. In reality, it has to be an internationally accepted promisary note that has an exchange value with the IMF and is backed by the country that produces it. You are not a country, so therefore your promisary note is not a currency. Effectively, his description is an IOU not cash, the colloquial term used for currency.

Promissory notes are real - however a note issued by an individual must be paid with hard cash on demand or at the term agreed, or in installments. Bank notes are backed up with the deposits held by the Bank of England.

I believe the first forms of currency were tokens/certificates of credit at the local store...which would have been where villagers dropped off the surplus of things they produced. This would have been long before the advent of money-changers and silver or gold coinage. Those certificates, which could have been in any form, such as tally sticks or seashells, would prove their ownership of their own produce, but would have been transferable so that they could claim the produce of others of equal value.

My friend tried to pay a debt off using a PN and they refused it. Took it to the ombudsman and they said it was just a promise to pay and would not recognise it as payment. So you will need to take it to the high court.
