@@FeatherX I appreciate the feedback however this is the clients choice of design, I created them for local businesses, the owners wanted these specific designs, never the less I appreciate your input though I have a request if you could enlighten me on what your insight of design should be like and where these designs need changing, I will inform the clients on changes that you suggest to enhance their website personality. I basically design it the way client requests it, and I can't personally judge their opinion because that is clients choice but I can notify them of user experience and who knows maybe applying the changes to could very well make a lot more appealing.

First off, know what you're speaking about before hand. These themes can be easily ripped / bought and given away. For free. In the templates world no template is safe. Second: I would do it for 100. It's not that hard you idoits Actually what I'd do is create my own line of minimum designs I can quickly change every aspect of with ease. Add modern css code to give the special affects for images and background and going page to page without reloading. Then when a person wants me to give then something I ask what style they prefer from my line up, what colors, would you like a custom logo (I'm a pro at vector and digital drawn art aswell, if simple I wouldn't charge more) and bam done.

I remember the first time we took a PC to a shop for a memory upgrade. Dad handed him either a 75mz or the 100mz system (cant remember, but still dinosaur either way lol). The guy took side off and snapped in 2 chips........ took prolly 2 mins (thats being conservative) and was parts + $75. Dad said never again and learned to tinker himself. First and last time in a "shop" besides the 1st time when he got the Commodore64 years before. I got lucky had a dad that got into it before computers/PC's were "cool". Anyway....... people are acting like $100 should get them a top of the line robust eye popping site....... just remember the shop guy who charged $75 to snap in 2 memory chips. And at that time, $75 was worth more than that today so it would be more like the $100-150 for essentially plugging in 2 atari game cartridges for you!!!! But........ on the other hand..... Design is Design is Design. A person can spend the time and end result could be a TRAIN WRECK but someone with a good eye for "design" can spend the same amount of time and produce pure eye candy....... say someone who can draw a messed up stick figure vs even an amature artist whos quick sketches are just no comparison to a stick figure yet both quickly "doodled" something. It don't take any more time to put an image in the right place vs wrong place, design wise. So anyway, I guess I said roughly same thing, just elaborated more on the subject lol.

Building and selling a site is cheap and easy. The key is educating the user on how to change/manipulate the pages and graphics. The education and function is what is worth the cost. Design is opinion and always gets modified. Who will make those changes and how? Who will keep the site up to date? Who will back up the site before making updates? Who's in charge of hosting. Who's responsible for buying the domain name? These types of questions are endless. Best wishes.

By "building a site" you mean "build a site from a modular, almost ready-to-use template"? Building a handmade site with html, (s)css, js/jquery/vue.js/angular PLUS the backend (wordpress, laravel nova or even plain php/node.js) is of course NOT cheap and easy. jeez.

In all fairness that's all fine and dandy...ready made theme yada yada. But one still has to take their time to communicate with the customer, put up with all the bull / back and forth ..."well what if we put this there and that thing over here"... + it *does* take time to get (correctly formatted) pictures, put them in place, try different ideas. So, all that said....I've learned quite a bit reading these comments. I'm even wondering who is the luckiest....someone living in a place where a plumber charges $400 to snake out a toilet (like where i live ) or someone living somewhere with no taxes and glad to get *any* work for $50 - $100. It's an interesting world. The bottom line is we can't compare apples and oranges / chalk and cheese .. It depends on where one lives, supply and demand and what the market bears. Also interestingly, on a global scale if one is in the know and can find the right help internationally they may have the power to help a struggling designer feed their family while only spending a fraction of what it might cost "at home". Then go tell some of these overpriced 'bigshots' (I mean the ones that think they're all that and really are overpriced...(even in their own overpriced town) ..to shove it. And before the locals howl about diminishing the value of buying locally and blah blah blah ... well, we have a family to feed as well. Personally I would strike a balance between some inexpensive help, adding my own work and expertise + local help if necessary. I also personally, am a bit bias (pro) towards fair prices in the middle. I live in an old (USA) neighborhood recently taken over by "millennials" and swarmed by rapid over development. We are surrounded now by expensive boutique shops, crafty little restaurants and bars. The price of a simple lunch or meal has tripled ($14 average for a burger)..quadrupled in a short time. Now "regular" people like us wind up at Taco Bell (lol) Trust me...you won't get this kind (Darrel's) of website around here for $100...or $500. Here's the reverse whammy: The missing link is: Talent, experience, talented team rather than an individual. For 1-2-3-4-$5000...$10,000 you don't get an individual, you get a village. But do you need a village? Hey...if someone can afford it... Annnnnnyway, I suppose we will all find our niche somewhere in this, right?

Both templates. All this really involves is them installing the theme. Possibly WordPress if u don't already have that installed. Then all they do is add some content (that you gave them) and tweak a few things in the design. All things you can do easily yourself. If you don't have the time then yes, you might think it's worth paying what you did. If you can spare even 30 minutes to 1 hour then you could of done this much cheaper and potentially free (theme dependant). Overall, for anyone not in the know, or generally don't have time then this isn't a bad thing. Easy money for the fiver users, easy result for the purchaser.

I'm sorry, but things like this cheapen the web designers status to a mere fraction of what they are for. Yes, there are designers that over-charge but ... in the average realm of a website's design. A basic service should run a company between $1000 - $2000 for design. Now, this is stating that the company has no idea how to make a website and therefore cannot contribute to the design in any way shape or form. This is companies that want something completely, in a package they can deal with. No Wordpress and CMS solutions. You start getting into a company doing their own updates, and a company will charge more simply because they make it accessible, easy to manage. Technical knowledge should not be down-played to a child's vision. Knowing about how something functions is learning. You cannot make a site and say, 'here you go' and they company is happy. You have to train them on the functionality of the website itself. How do you make a new post? How do you add an event to the calendar? How can I add a blog post or a photo library of events. These things come with the territory, and when a company wants these things, of course you incorporate the costs of training IN to the cost of production of the website. Doing otherwise would be a shortfall of your company's business model. No one wants to do these things for free, however, if a person wants a website and wishes to LEARN how to do things on their own, all the power to them. But don't expect that the training is included with the price of the design if the developer doesn't substantiate their time-to-teach into their cost of development. That would be their bad in the end.

On the contrary I recently bought a website from a dude on there who was brand new with no past sales. Only reason I chose him was he had 3 solid examples of web sites he designed himself and they all were pretty solid and used a lot of modern html5 transitions and animations. I only paid 50 bucks and the dude went out of his way to build a full back end with an admin panel that I didnt even need and has spent time researching things that I wanted to do that he never did before. Including some fairly complex elements that he has fully written solutions to himself. And its all dynamically loaded from my database with a searching and filter feature as well. We finished 2 weeks ago and hes still adding features and making changes because he had a lot of emergencies which has delayed it into a month but he said he wants me to be happy with my website. To make a long story short there are some skilled humble people on there but fiverr is also a common place for people to fake it till they make it for a quick buck. Many SEO scammers that promise views and posts and backlinks that are all bogus. All I can say is you really need to do your research and to ask for examples of their work. I don’t often believe the past reviews and popularity because there are a lot of dumb people willing to blow their money for piss poor work. You can use it as a metric but their actual work will speak for itself. These dudes robbed you. Granted you didnt sit back and steer them along the way which may have left you with better results but neither of these sites are very polished. Not even in a way that’s worth 100 bucks. Amateur color choices and decision making tells me they aren’t very professional. Which again is fine but don’t charge that kind of money if you can’t even get that right. This is what Id expect from a 30 dollar website at best. And I’m not even knocking the use of a template. In fact the moment you mention wordpress you should immedeatly suspect it will be. Templates are a great base for a website and with several tweaks can easily turn into a completely different custom lay out but this is just cheap.

Both sites look like generic templates. The first one is clearly a Divi site. You can download complete sites in Divi just by buying an Elegant Themes subscription. But if you want something of that quality completely free, just install the free Astra theme and its "Astra Sites" plugin. You can download complete sites - for free - that look at least as good as those Fiverr ones. Anyway, thanks for the fun video, Darrel! I always enjoy your insights.

For $100 these are not bad. There are web developers that charged $700+ for generic, outdated looking websites. If I was in a crunch and had no web development skills, I would consider these guys. However its more cost effective to just building these websites yourself since it looks like a ton of templates might have been used.

These all look like standard wp template sites. You basically have a bunch of blocks you reference in a particular order, and then easily change global colour/font schemes from the control panel. I took a wp gig once and picked a template with the client. It was then just a matter of tweaking it to their preference. Not so hard, but the value you provide to the client is how much tweaking you are prepared to do for the 100 bucks. Sounds like these guys got off pretty lightly :D

First time here... Thanks for giving us an idea of what fiverr deliverables look like. I feel it's RIP off though. I could have built 3 custom designed pages for $150 along with basic SEO optimization like image alts, meta etc. I sold such service 3 times in the past, when clients had their own domain and hosting. Now, however, I use a different approach and sell a package with domain, host, custom design, [custom logo], GMaps optimization and Really good SEO. This all in one package for $350 and that too in small cities of India. I'm sharing this so it may help someone think in a different way. Lots of people learning few basics and providing services for $100 makes me sad. Lots of them could learn more, improve design or SEO or other skills and sell a higher ticket package which actually brings sales to their clients. Also that way they'll have to hunt just few businesses to earn the same money they earned selling 50 cheap packages.

Many people who know nothing about web design are cheap, they don't want to pay what it costs to get a high-end design. And honestly, they don't know a good website from a bad one. So there are customers for these basic websites. The sites showed use Divi for the first and Avada for the second, two excellent themes that can create beautiful websites, but that takes working with the client and more time, this will cost even more. For $100 and the market they are selling to, they both delivered $100 projects. Now I know I can go sign up to Fiverr and sell me some quicky websites!

I’d love to know Elegant Themes take on these Gigs using unlicensed versions of DIVI etc to do these? Lol So, 3 pages for 100 dollars - ummm, as a web developer that would be about 2 hours work, esp using Divi (so so easy!) I rekon that guys on about $35 an hour then, ummm not bad me thinks. You provided content and images - wow let me know your next job and give us a tinkle on the old phone mate! What about checking the responsive views or were these just defaults (not good). Did you check for any Meta data on the pages for a wee bit of SEO? IMHO this is a rip off! Divi comes with 100s of templates, pick one, cut and paste content, job done. There was no flair or time taken. Look and feel are all you got (template) no additional CTAs, banners, styles that were not just straight out the box. Considering it’s using a page builder and template, they would of put these together from copy provided in an hour or so. Stick to doing it yourself, esp as you did all the heavy lifting; e.g. the content for them!!
@Bevallalom
@Bevallalom 5 жыл бұрын
None of them were custom built designs. Only templates they modified a bit. It is a rip-off. Even if one does not know anything about web design, wordpress was created with this mindset: you only need to be able to click with your mouse and read the instructions. There are tons of free wordpress templates (with e-commerce compatibility too) that look way better then these. That is my review :) And I know what I am talking about. I started with Commodore 16/plus and 64 back then, so I'm not a beginner.

So when a mechanic buys a part for you car and then charges you for the part and installation that's not the same thing? Service is service. It's the "convenience" you pay your money for. Everyone doesn't WANT to learn how to manage a website so they hire someone else to do it. $100 is nothing compared to how much the big companies charge and some of the fivver sellers actually try to upsell you to their more expensive offerings but they'll give you the basic one for the low because it's quick and easy money. Why not?

Honestly as a Web designer myself in the past, you can clearly see that they are both using generic templates and unfortunately they did not have good design sense when it came to placement and color combinations. Even for a $100 I don't think it was worth it because I can literally go get those from free downloadable sites and have the same result.
