As a former camera tech and film photo developer, you can use those cameras more than once if you know how they work and are slightly more careful taking then apart. Also, t's not the lens that gives the majority of that "nostalgic look" it's the film.

Dude, if you glued your lenses with cyanoacrylate glue, don't leave it on your camera at first. This glue is very quick, but it still evaporates some fumes for a day or two. Those fumes make really nasty taint (seen it called "superglue frost" which is quite self explanatory) on everything around it if it's not ventilated. So you might just ruin your camera if you use too much glue. Edit: it seems, that guy has got that very superglue frost I was talking about. You can see in on shots outside, that donor cap has white stain around disposable lens. And I would like to believe that the first picture shown (photo of nature) is having this cloudy effect on top left part is due to light, not to the lens being ruined.

You brought back so many memories. When I was in elementary school parents would buy us these disposable cameras to take pictures while on school trips (I was born in 2002, I'm not an oldtimer like someone born in the 50s but I still remember the pre-technology era), back then the only telephones available were those little flip phones and parents didn't trust us on having one, on account of them being expensive. When I was in middleschool the first smartphones started coming out and the disposable cameras were slowly replaced by those mind boggling phone-computer-cameras

@@changedmynamee if we wanna be petty the term "smartphone" was in use since the 90s, but I digress. Even tho the iPhone was around in 2007 it wasn't at all common. it was the equivalent of the first cellphones of the 70s, even tho they existed they costed an arm and a leg and only businessmen could afford them, you wouldn't see an average 16 y.o. riding their scooter and carrying around a briefcase-sized cellphone. One can call the later models of cellphones (the ones everyone could afford and thus saw widespread) the "first phones". Same for smartphones, an iPhone was (and still is) an overpriced thingy not everyone has or has got (I refuse to buy one, I've had almost exclusively samsung and refuse to change), while smartphones that came later such as the first Samsungs have seen a faster spreading due to the lower cost

If you pull apart the disposable you can just replace the film and use it again after rewinding the counter. The trick here is that these cameras have the film pulled out from the canister and so you must reload the canister by pulling all the film out before putting into the camera and this must be done in a dark room either blind or with a dark room light.

The film is what produces the retro look that everyone wants. You’re putting a high megapixel sensor behind cheap glass/plastic and you’ll just have a shitty photo. But you add film and you’ll have that retro styling everyone knows. Which is how Fuji keeps its popularity with their film simulations.

These used to be used for competitions where photographers could only take one picture. They would then send the entire camera in as their entry.

The nostalgia I got when it produced the shock When I was 4-5 yrs old I had managed to get my hands on an old film camera from my Grandma's house and brought it back to ours. Me being curious decided to take it apart with a screwdriver. I did take out the battery but didn't know of a particular MF called capacitor. And low and behold, the camera almost came to life with a whirring sound and took a picture of me and gave me a good shock and left this burn on my hand for the rest of my life. :)

(Don't want to sound old, but)back in the day when you dropped them off to get developed, the developer would send them back to the manufacturer after they extracted the film. The camera itself was reloaded, repackaged and resold. So they weren't really disposable to the consumer, we couldn't throw them away if we wanted the pictures.

I'm a photolab engineer and for a long time my sidehustle was reloading single-use cameras with specialty films and selling them to hipsters. I also liked to put in custom shades and slides so that the photos would come out like hearts or with a Hello Kitty on each frame.

That spark came from the flash capacitor, it holds its charge even when the camera is completely off Make sure to discharge it using a resistor, shorting it may kill it and cause a loud spark, and touching it while it's charged with SHOCK the heck out of you (said by experience) This is an important tip in case someone wants to disassemble a camera to fix it or just out of curiosity

I have a disposable camera from an overnight school trip to Coloma, CA (where the gold rush started) where we were only allowed to bring disposable cameras. It’s been 8 years and I still have it and haven’t processed the photos.

Note for the image to be in focus the lense must be the correct distance from the sensor. Just gluing it on will not be correct unless your extremely lucky.

We take hundreds of photos on the phone, yet, very few are actually worth keeping. I guess what made these cameras so awesome in the first place was because they were limited. Each shot was worth it, even if it was a picture taken at night, in the cabin, of a shirt on the floor. Still, so worth it

its a good idea and concept but remember if you really wan that film look just get a film camera, the whole reason they have a specific feel to them is because of the silver hallide crystals that produce the grain.
