They do have smart golf balls .. They have actually been a thing for quite a while. Haven't really caught on and no major golf ball manufacturer have bought the rights to any of them, so they are pricey. My thought is why would a company that makes money selling you something give you less of a reason to go buy more. They like that the average golfer losses a sleeve or two a round.

The reason why they wouldn't want your golf balls to be trackable is because they want you to lose them and then buy more!

Find someone with an end mill with a bit that is just barely wider then the air tag. Mill out a slot that will barely fit the tag, then grind the core down to a powder. Mix the powder with a resin, pre-fill the ball part way and then put the tag in it and fill up the rest of the way with the resin. You might even be able to save the outer cover and re-use it potentially to cover the slot. It won't come apart and hopefully it'll be less dead.

Hey Steve... Matt here. I watch all you guys and I'm really pulling for you to get better and start challenging them other nerds, Tig,Grant,Matt, Garrett and Bubba! I know you got it in you to be better around the green so here's a little tip I believe will give you a little bump in your game. When chipping stop thinking about getting it to the hole. Instead focus on your landing area. You have 3 chips that are mostly used. The flop. The pitch and run and the spinner! The pitch and run is what you need to work on. So 20 yards and in start using that wedge and start by flying it 10 feet and see how much roll out you get. From there it's easy. If your going 20 feet after the 10 yard flight then it's as easy as switching to a 9 iron for a little more rollout distance and a sandwedge for a little less roll-out distance. Go get em brother! Great idea with this ball finder.

Putting a chip in a ball is one of those ideas that SOUNDS like it's good, until you start thinking about it. 1.) Would need a lasting power supply. What happens when you don't play for winter, or w/e? So, now these golf balls need to be contain chips with wireless charging. 2.) Golf Balls wear-out and get scratched-up to the point where you can't use them (if you're trying to score low) rather quickly. Because of that, it would have to be a chip you MOVE from ball to ball, so now we are manufacturing semi-sphere golf-balls that can be taken-apart and put-together seamlessly. (Or nearly seamlessly.) This might not even be possible. 3.) There is always a chance you hit the ball somewhere that it can't be retrieved, even if you're being extra careful. Water/Tree/Cliff/etc. 4.) Planned obsolescence. "Hey guys, I got an idea. Let's design a cheap product that never needs to be replaced." Even if you designed and patented the perfect ball, you'd be public enemy #1 by every corporation in America. I wouldn't be surprised if your woke-up and ate poisoned Wheaties.

Idea for you and GG. Have y’all heard of the reverse mulligan? Not sure if you can incorporate it into a 3v3 or not but in a 1v1 your opponent has the option to make you re-hit one shot per hole. So if you drain a long birdie putt or stick it within a foot from 150 yards out the other person can call reverse mulligan and make you do it again. I think it would make for an entertaining video.

Steve! The reason why it doesn’t track in the woods and only tracks when you’re with it, is because the location is reliant on updating with nearby iPhones. If you hit it 300 yards into the woods, the location won’t update unless it can communicate with a phone to update your find-my app. Just a little insight!

The only way I can see this ever working long-term is if the core is 100-percent liquid. This is because there's a lot of deforming going on both inside and outside of the golf ball when hit. The ball cracked because the glue used doesn't deform at the same rate as the rest of the solid core.

There are a couple companies that make golf balls to track but they use Bluetooth to find them. Not as accurate at gps.

Unfortunately Air tags will use your phones location. It just means you are within a certain distance. It won’t help you find it.
