Mark Crossfield has gone completely mad and put different golf grips on all of his golf clubs. Mark visited Golf Prides new global innovation centre in Pinehurst recently and what they are producing there is quite spectacular. Do golf grips make that much of a difference? Find out by watching both Mark and Coach Lockey taking on Pinehurst No4.

I got the CP2 midsize grips on my new irons and love them. The best thing about there grumpiness is that when you hit a bad shot and go to throw the club it sticks to your hand that little longer, which results in the club landing just short of the lake. Money savers I say.

Gripwise - Golf Pride Z Cord (logo up) One layer of Tape. Will be moving to Golf Pride full cord (logo up) with two layers of tape after a recent fitting. Enjoyed the softer feel on the full cord and extra wrap helps take the hands out of things a little. Like the idea of maybe going for a third wrap under the right hand.

Mark, been saying this to you for 2 yrs now, Mid-Sized Plus 4 grips are money. I changed to them 2 years ago when you started your 10-finger videos, and it absolutely gives better control of the club and the feeling of being able to apply more force into the club - and I also switched from overlap to 10-finger all at the same time.

Did the same - changed to mid sized plus 4 grips and no longer hook my long iron (larger grips stop my hands turning over). Also love the extra support you get on the right hand - feels so much lighter in the hand. Probably one of the best investments i have made to my setup! Great video @Mark Crossfield

Just recently changed from standard size to midsize z cord on my irons and love them. I'm gonna change my woods next. Interesting idea about going jumbo on wedges for chipping to get the putter sensation. I might have to have an experiment with that.

Just started the video, but I’m interested in the align grips and I believe the jumbo cp2s. My hope with either is that they’ll help feel the club face angle a little better. Funny it’s something I’ve just started looking into and you’ve made a video on it 🔮

Used Golf Pride CP2 Pros for several years but switched to Lamkin Sonars in the spring. Definitely larger, especially since they are "standard" size. Texture makes them quite grippy, but if you are swinging badly they will sandpaper your skin a bit. Been using Super Stroke putter grips for a while but got tired of the slick feel of the polymer material and am trying Golf Pride Tour Snsr Red in 104cc. Seems to give a bit more feedback on how the putter head meets the ball.

i redid my grips earlier this year with Midsize Tour Velvet plus 4. LOVE them. no more hand fatigue, easier to get into my fingers and not my palms, and the random skull shot doesn't hurt terribly much. But I do wear large gloves so my hands are slightly larger than average

My go to grip is far and away the Lamkin Sonar+ Standard. As I understand it the + means it doesn’t taper for the lower hand. I love the “fingerprint” technology that lets you get a firm grip without it being tacky. That said, I do have a second set of irons and several woods with the Golf Pride New Decade MCC grips. While not as comfortable as the Lamkins (IMO) I can still play a round comfortably with them. If I hadn’t tried the Lamkins I would have stayed with the MCCs.

I've tried standard, midsize, jumbo. The whole lot on more than one occasion. Love the feel of the thicker grips in the hand to genrally swing about... But I can't get a consistent strike with them...I'm not sure if its the change in "swingweight" from the extra grip weight, causing counterbalance and loosing the clubhead feel. So I've gone back to standard.

I always think thick grips feel great but as a player that uses the hands to control the club head and generate speed, I'm pretty useless playing them. Honestly think hitting the same club with different grips should be part of a fitting process, rather than just ok these are the clubs what grip do you like the feel of.
@TheAboriginal1
@TheAboriginal1 Жыл бұрын
I agree with you. I love the feel of oversize grips, especially on driver and woods, but they leave my lead hand open and I end up with an ugly slice every time. For me a good in between is standard mcc+4 which still reduces hand fatigue but keeps my lead hand closed with plenty of control.

After a bunch of messing around with grips, I now play a mid-size grip with 3 layers of tape at the bottom for less taper. I'd been using Golf Pride MCC+4 and CPx grips, but recently switched to Lamkin UTx grips. They have the corded feel but are softer and tackier than the MCC grips. The CPx grips are a bit too squishy and the texturing is annoying at times.

Kooyonga, South Australia was punishing for me (Nett 100 in a juniour competition!). Royal Adelaide is a challenging, stunning layout, with bonus train line. Grips are something I am still exploring. What is perfect for me? Not sure. I did buy a driver and 3 wood second hand last year with thick grips. It took a while to adjust my swing in order to get my hands through the ball wnough to restore a draw to my standard shot shape.

I'm flabbergasted at how grips are ignored. As Mr Crossfield showed in his recent driver tests, there is no real difference in current models. Ditto irons. Grips can't improve a club, but they can help you get the most out of them. My normal shot is a draw, my miss is a hook and the shot that makes me want to give up golf is a pull hook. The problem isn't swing path, it is a closed face at impact. Caused by my strong grip. Again, Mr Crossfield did a video explaining this. Were I a tad more dedicated, I'd rebuild my grip from the ground up. But I'm 61 and no longer in the improvement phase. Instead I'm in the cling on to single digit phase. A couple of years or so ago I read a review of the Golfpride Align grips. The theory made sense so I gave them a try in my irons. The improvement was dramatic and immediate. Way more than 'upgrading' to different irons. The more neutral grip felt odd, but the left miss disappeared. I could aim at greens. I shot my first ever even par round. Got to my lowest handicap. My form has reverted since those heady days, but it is because I have ignored the Align nudges and gone back to my evil ways. I need bigger Align lines. Similarly with the driver. I've been trying heads and shafts recently and basically there is no real difference. The exception was a shaft that was fitted with an Align grip. I had the same launch and spin numbers as every other shaft, but it was obviously and consitently more right biased. I've been fitted numerous times since about 2016 and my numbers haven't changed a jot (albeit I'm lucky enough to have a very efficient swing). But the right grip, leading to a better setup, is the only thing that has made a real difference. I still flirt with new clubs, but I always regrip them.
