It can be a bit hazardous. You want to loosen the strings before doing this. If you've ever had a guitar string break, you know that it can be pretty unpleasant when it hits exposed skin. I once had a piano string go through my hand during a pitch raise. It went straight through like a hypodermic needle. It wasn't as serious as I thought it was (it's quite distressing when you realize something has gone through a part of your body even if the damage isn't that bad.). If you do want the joy of clipping a fully tuned piano (it IS fun and you DO have to get them off for restringing), I recommend doing it from behind the capot. The strings can't really hit you from there.

By 'real world', he means 'the real, actual, physical instrument'. He specifically noted that the sound is unique enough to garner attention and desire from lo-fi artists- a digital medium. Because of the physical challenges of maintaining the guipiano, it would go out of tune far too quick to be practical for use in the real world. Digital files, however, take much longer to degrade. You don't need to spend hours tuning a MIDI file every few weeks, fam.

My advice is to contact a guitar strings manufacturer and have them send you proper length strings for your piano then contact your tuner guy to tune the piano make another video. With proper length strings you might not get that hyper vibration that you got playing certain notes. I think it sounded cool and I think many people would like to see you revisit this idea.

As a piano tuner myself, id say this isn't necessarily true. There are certain brands like Steinway, Baldwin, and Mason & Hamlin that don't have spruce bushings surrounding the tuning pins which usually take me around 2 hours and other brands such as Hailun and Nordiska where the unisons just don't cooperate and they also take around 2 hours.
@oldgoat381
@oldgoat381 3 жыл бұрын
@@spokeskeys6238 That's fair I guess, but the way I was taught (Yamaha) was to get things done as quickly as possible, which means if you're spending more than 30 seconds on a unison/octave you've spent too long and you have to move on and come back to it. Of course when it comes to the antiquated, beat up, worn down pianos I usually get to encounter, I have to really focus to get things in. My point was with roughly only 2/3 of the piano strung, it taking 2 hours, something massively wrong has to be happening, which just about anyone can guess what that is.
