Honey I can definitely relate I’m going to have a year in December and I left my job in Aug because of nurse bullying because I was thriving as a new grad. I found it was mostly bitter older then me black women who you would think could have been mentors but instead they wanted to tear you down. I had a black educator who acted as if she was my friend but stalked my socials and complained to management after I had already quit about how I was partying every weekend. Girl bye I’ve grown first of all second it’s my weekends off third I no longer work for yall. Now I’m at a new hospital I love it here and I definitely move differently. I don’t share anything about my personal life. You need never get another opportunity to ruin my name or my career. Congratulations on everything. Happy your back 😁

GIRLLLLL!! I feel seen lol 😭 I left this detail out of my video because I KNOW they be watching my stuff, but the main senior nurse who was on my case was BLACK!! I couldn’t believe the self hatred. Shame on them. I am so happy you know your worth and moved according! 🤍

Yep... these people be crying that they are understaffed and need help. I used to laugh when they'd run new grads off. I am just chilling at the unit secretary station minding my business and thinking these senior nurses are some dumb a$$ people.

I left my nursing job and it just so happens to be in the Nicu too. I’ve only been a nurse for 1 1/2 years. The environment was very toxic. I was the new girl in the small town hospital while everyone else was older or knew each other for years. They say that NICU nurses are very protective of “their babies” so they have their guard up first before they can trust you. I didn’t feel welcomed from day one. I was extremely blessed to work with babies as this was the place a lot of nurses dream of but all of the estrogen, gaslighting, bullying, and working nights was too much for me. I’ve had mentors that would say I’m doing so well and then turn around and tell the manager the opposite. The manager believes everything they said about me and wouldn’t even ask for my side of things. I’ve tried to stick it out but I felt worse as time went on. I got sick so many times from stress and was full of anxiety before clocking in. I would break down crying before work sit in my car and think about going home. I’ve finally had enough. The money was good but it’s not worth the stress. I had to step away from nursing. Everyone around me reminds me of how hard I’ve worked to get my degree . I should have listened to my doubts back when I started nursing school. Toxic instructors, racism, etc… ugh Honestly don’t even know if I want to go back.

Wow. I’m so so sorry you’ve experienced this. I will say.. I don’t think NICU nurses being protective over the babies has anything to do with their poor attitudes. I think it’s more them being protective of their job and status in the unit. It’s a pride/jealousy thing. But there’s NO room for that when trying to learn and grow!

Perhaps try a different unit. You could gel better with different people!

I left my PICU residency by week 9. The gaslighting, bullying and fake preceptors talking behind my back to management had me over it. I am in a new pediatric non-bedside job and I absolutely love it. Better teamwork, less toxic, and I am actually respected for my efforts! edit: and lol at 15:55 but I definitely resonated with that. I 10000% feel you !!

My nursing residency at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles was wonderful, the 6 months of training really prepared me to be on my own, the acuity of the patients is very high so you are fully prepared to work anywhere. I left after 2 years for a union Hospital where the pay is much higher and benefits and working conditions kept me sane. I left bedside care after 11 years, I’m in case management now and I love it!

I’m just seeing this, But I have been seeing this too too much lately. I just left a unit because of the exact same thing!! My preceptor and the charge were bully’s! I tried to dismiss it chuck it up to new grad jitters but, it was far beyond that. I felt my license was on the line every night. As long as I wasn’t asking questions it was lightly bearable. The eye rolls, the whispering, the sighs, and the list goes on!! And this is from the preceptor, backed by the charge so who was I going to turn to. I could say so much more but you get it. It was crazy and uncomfortable. The nurses weren’t old either they were 4/5 yr snotty acting brats. It felt like I was in a high school movie. Hospitals better get it together and tighten up on this and listen, nobody is staying for this!! We worked too hard for our license.

Hello Melisa I am happy you endured your first year of being a nurse. I am currently is school at CHAMBERLAIN to pursue BSN RN . Also Melsia I work in the ED at a hospital and I have experienced RN lying on me to management and my own supervisor lying . This makes the working environment toxic . Prayer is key to all things. Also I pray you will do well in DNP schoold.

Wow can't believe you've reached a year in nursing! I watched you during my nursing journey and now I'm a new grad. My new grad residency has been a waste of time so far. I purposely applied to a job without a residency and then boom everyone under 1 year was auto-enrolled into the "residency." Every month we have an hour long meeting where someone who hasn't been at the bedside in years reads to us from a PowerPoint...gee thanks. I want to practice skills. Run mock codes. Get tips on improving my charting.

Okay!! We had to beg my unit for a mock code because we were 6 mos in and running codes completely clueless 😂😂😂 but they’re worried about a damn PowerPoint. Our residency classes were 3-6 hours a month. Half a shift sometimes.

Hey girl! I want to thank you so much for sharing your truth. NICU is a field I want to go into post grad school. I heard it is tough to be in this field as a new grad nurse. I understand want you went through, The nursing bullying needs to STOP!! Yes, its a predominantly white population, but that does not mean they get to bully anyone that does not look like them! One day they're going to need to take themselves or a loved one to receive care and it may be by someone who does not look like them. My point is nurses who does not look like the typical average nurse needs to bring more awareness to this issue! You keep your head up my beautiful Queen do not adjust or remove your crown for no one! I worked as a CNA PCT and Dialysis Tech and experienced what you have and you're not being negative you're bringing awareness. You do what God has intended you to be. More people who looks like us need to be in this field so we do not only have to rely on bullies/racists professionals when we are in a time of medical attention.

I don’t see it based on gender, more so based on seniority. But there are also no men on my unit, so that’s most I can say. 🫠

Black male in a white female dominated profession! I got it really hard my 1st couple years but 10 years later the work and care I provide speaks for itself. Started at 19 and I think it was mostly envy/jealously that I a 19 yo black male was making the same and outshining vets & leveled up fairly quickly. It's all about being nice/nasty/professional and letting them know respect is earned, not freely given when not reciprocated. Read your policies and procedures yourself and find a buddy! It's possible!
