The active ingredient in Differin (adapalene) is actually less irritating than tretinoin and safer. Some studies have shown it to be equally effective to tretinoin.

yesss. i went from using adapelene to tretinoin thinking it would take my skin to the next level. but i saw no improvements. back to using my adapalene now 3 times a week.

it definitely can be better for acne, however tretenoin is the only retinoid studied and proven to be effective for anti aging benefits and reducing wrinkles.

@@l.b4723 Because it has its FDA approval for acne. Yes, there's not a consensus like with tret, but since they work the same similar results are to be expected...

For me and a lot of women, it's 100% about hormones. Now that I'm pregnant I never get acne but I'm suspecting it will come back in full force postpartum

I saw a girl switching from tretinoin to retinol, and her skin improved a lot. So hopefully you get a better option :3

very interesting! I heard in the past that because the skin is our biggest organ, the reason for acne lies almost always in the gut. I am absolutely convinced that you will see long-term improvements in your skin when you heal your gut. I swear by fermented foods like beat kavass, sauerkraut, kombucha or kefir. It is so easy to ferment vegetables at home - it's literally just e.g. carrots, water and salt and 3-4 days later, bada bing bada bum: you have delicious fermented vegetables. Many people eat at least 1-2 tablespoons of fermented food with every meal for at least 3 months to heal their gut and see a difference.

What is your opinion on taking probiotic capsules orally? I used to take them but they are quite expensive, so decided to stop. (around £10 for a two week course, for the cheapest ones). Might take your advice with the fermented foods. Maybe home made kimchi will start being my go to :')

If the gut is the reason, then why does it only cause acne in the face and not the rest of your body skin? you can be absolutely convinced all you want but anyone with a brain can see your bad logic.

You may try to use adapalene, more gentle than tretinoin.

I wouldn’t give up on tretinoin! Not all acids are bad using moisturizers with hyaluronic acid can help so much with irritation. I use the ordinary amino acid and vitamin b5 serum with neutrogenas water cream in the morning. You should also try slugging every other day using those 2 products and Vaseline on top. For skin cleanser I use cetaphil gentle skin cleanser. Use sun hats when you’re outside or umbrellas if you feel sunscreen alone isn’t enough. At night keep it simple with just a moisturizer and your tretinoin. You should watch Dr.Dray on KZfaq she’s a dermatologist who gives great advice!

Tretinoin + acids is just a matter of how your skin reacts to it. For instance i was able to handle 15% glycolic acid> 20% L ascorbic acid> .1 tretinoin and moisturizer all in one routine.

Slugging is not good for acne prone skin- only very dry skin. It will cause more clogging

Tread, no one slows down the aging process in the skin. They should have told you that there was a plateau. That was at your age in stage in life.... But it will keep your collagen from breaking down. Sooner that has to as you were lucky enough to grow older.
