Hey Cody! Congrats on the house! Its genuinely refreshing to see this amount of transparency about the van-life and not be bogged down by the survivorship bias most content creators leverage off of. Also those drone shots are immaculate!

Good luck for the next chapter of your life Cody! I wasn't here since day one of your journey but really enjoyed the time I spent watching your content and vicariously living the dream of a van-life through you. Thanks for putting all your cards on the table and being honest about your experience these past few years. I learnt a lot about the world of photography from you and i hope I'll continue to do so. Looking forward to many more inspiring vids from ya. Peace! :)

Truly excited to see what is next for this channel. I remember how it felt when I first saw a couple of videos from Cody, it was truly something else. The quality of what he creates just took pulled me right in to binging the videos starting from most recent to oldest and never did I realize how small this channel was back then. Yet, here we are, a year later and it just keeps getting better. The love for what you do, and care in put in each script is very evident. Much love to you too Cody and Congratulations!

Cody, I am a newish follower. I believe I found a video of yours when I was looking for help understanding exposure on my SX70. I am 46 years old and started my image making on film in the mid nineties. I went full digital and never looked back. Until a couple years ago. I got discouraged as an image maker and wanted to feel more hands on. You are a very relaxing storytelling and teacher. You communicate so well I find myself coming to your channel more often now. I am curious to understand HOW you were able to create "full time" and what were some of your first "jobs" shooting.

I'm watching this sitting in my small bedroom surrounded by books and more cameras than any one person should have. At least that is what my wife tells me. The room has my books, computers and all of my cameras. At 70 yrs old I don't travel as much as I used to but I do still hit the road. Looking to get a small travel trailer. Having a home-base is important. More important than most of us are willing to admit. While I think I'm something of an introvert I can and will talk your leg off and do enjoy being around people more or less. No matter how far from home I am or how long I've been gone there is comfort knowing that I have a real place to go to with all my stuff and people that are happy to have me back.

Cody, this was a dope video and a unique perspective to see. I’m just stepping into the “vanlife” lifestyle. While it comes with its excitement, it definitely has its shortcomings 😂 it really makes you grateful for the little things that come with having a house. Also side note, I’m from Corvallis bro! Nice to find another Oregon creator! Took a break from KZfaq but getting ready to dive back into what makes me creatively tick. Hoping living out of the car sparks that flame but we’ll see!

Nice Synology NAS. Sounds like you've got it set up with RAID6, which is probably the most reliable way to run this setup. I do hope you are still backing up important data though, some people fall into the trap of thinking that a RAID is a backup, but the data can in rare cases still get toasted, or the NAS itself can run into problems risking your data. if you have anything on there that's really important, I'd repurpose a couple of those external HDs and run hyper backup to them periodically.
@Bob-xy6gt
@Bob-xy6gt 2 ай бұрын
@Codacolor late to this but found you via your great zone metering video - also just wanted to really highlight this point, a synology is amazing but not a redundant/backup. If you only have one copy, it is not backed up! If you have copies on those hard drives, consider storing them somewhere else offsite, or maybe consider syncing your synology to a cloud backup of some kind. As someone who lost almost two months of work on a project that was stored on a RAID NAS, I definitely realize it's truly essential to have a second copy! Excited to catch up and see what you've been up to lately.

I don’t know if you’ve heard of Bob Wells, he’s an older guy with gray hair and a long beard, he’s been living the van life for YEARS! He’s also become a celebrity in Van Life and has a huge channel and has made mad money on his videos, he started van life on KZfaq at just the right time to cash in and he’s made a second career out of creating a van life community and his channel is evolving. He’s been featured on numerous documentaries and have helped van lifers find jobs to sustain them while living in a van. While you content creators think you started this, the older generations have been doing it for years. First man I ever met living in a van was in 1982. He lived in a 69 Dodge Sportsman van with orange shag carpet. In that van he had his Polaroids of Woodstock and even showed up pics of his girlfriend’s (at the time) titties at Woodstock. Now the retired are having to live in a van because it’s all they can afford off retirement. They don’t get to quit, they have to endure. So your fad ends, their reality, well, it’s still reality.
@Codacolor
@Codacolor Жыл бұрын
Pretty sure every van-dweller out there these days knows who Bob Wells is. I read one of his books while building my van. You may feel good about yourself for "schooling the youths" with your comment, but if you took a moment to offer me a fraction of the understanding and respect that you offer Bob Wells, you would find that I have never once said anything that would even remotely suggest that I think I, "started" van life. You're unfairly projecting your own prejudices upon me when all I have ever been on this channel is honest and grateful. And believe me, people have been living out of their vehicles since way earlier than 1982. I have befriended quite a few elderly van/truck-dwellers who are in their rigs out of necessity, not out of choice. I empathize with those who don't have a choice about where they live. I have willingly befriended these folk and offered them favors, kindness, and company. That being said, the existence of these people, doesn't mean that those who pursue van-living on their own accord are somehow in the wrong. Just because you've read Nomadland doesn't give you permission to be disrespectful to others from behind your keyboard just because they're younger. So unless you are within or contributing to the van-dwelling community, your opinions here hold no weight. And if this video irked you so much that you just _had_ to write that long-winded opinionated comment, maybe, for your own sanity's sake, you should limit your KZfaq viewing to things that fit within your insular convictions. Extend some empathy instead of exercising judgment and you'll find the world becomes a much more wonderful place.
