Kudos on another great video. I’m eagerly awaiting what you have to say and how you rank R.C. Pro-Am (Nintendo), River City Ransom (Technōs ), Super Dodge Ball (CSG/Sony Imagesoft), Nintendo World Cup (Nintendo), Crash 'n the Boys: Street Challenge (Technōs), Star Wars (JVC), Shadow of the Ninja (Natsume), Isolated Warrior (NTVIC), A Boy and His Blob (Absolute), Silver Surfer (Arcadia), Gun-Nac (ASCII), and, of course, the rest of the games from Nintendo (Metroid, Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out, Super Mario Bros. 3, Zelda II, among others).

Btw you're right. It _IS_ called Baseball Simulator one thousand. Not baseball simulator one point 000 More countries in the world use a comma as a decimal point than countries that use a period/full stop as a decimal point. And the countries that use a comma for the decimal point use a period/full stop to indicate breaks in a number, instead of using a comma like we do in the UK and US and so on. So for them, what we'd call for example 1,000,000.23 they'd write as 1.000.000,23 So a Japanese company made this game, and though Japan uses a period/full stop as a decimal separator just like we do in the UK and US, they must have thought it was better to accommodate most of the world, e.g. the vast majority of europe uses a comma as a decimal separator (the UK and Ireland are pretty much the only European countries that use a period/full stop), and all but one country in south America uses a comma as a decimal separator too. Even parts of Canada use a comma as a decimal separator. The Quebec parts, unsurprisingly, because they was be french so bad, and France uses the comma. So yeah, if you're selling your game globally, you might as well accommodate the system most countries use

"Flying Dragon" was one of those few games we got as a kid. Nostalgic for me. *Note: Scheherazade told the 1,001 Nights. The Kind or Emperor kept marrying and killing women, and the way she stopped him from doing it was to marry the Emperor, start a tale to her younger sister and not finish it. The Emperor wanted to hear the rest of it, so he did not kill her, and she would finish the tale and start another without finishing it, and again, he wanted to hear the rest, so he spared her. This went on for year and several children later. Aladdin, the 40 thieves (forgot the name), Sinbad, and more came out of it.

Love Baseball Simulator 1.000. When I was a kid, my baseball nerd self would edit six teams with real players and stats and play a full 165 game season. And then the game would keep track of player stats as you progressed throughout the season. I played the SNES version more, but this is definitely a nostalgia hit for me.

I just wrote basically the same post as I did this with a baseball almanac. The thing was tweaking the home run power. If you had Gary Carter hit 20 home runs in 1991 and you type in 20 home runs he would hit like 33. So it was trial and error. I had Astros, Pirates,Dodgers, Twins, Rangers, and A’s.

Thank you! For my 13th birthday, my folks surprised me by letting me pick out a game at the mall. I was not prepared and had to rush my decision. I went with Flying Dragon: The Secret Scroll. I got it home and 30 minutes later, I had the buyer's remorse. I thought my Birthday pick was clunky and dull and my failure to choose a good game filled me with angst. However, my younger sister started to play it on and off over the next week and figured out what to do, and she later showed me some stuff, and I was like, "HOW?" and it became one of the better memories I have of us playing together as siblings. Anyhoo, I'm a huge fan of this game and your videos and a fan of younger sisters showing older brothers how to be patient.

'Scheherazade' is a Rimsky-Korsakov showpiece. It shows off the virtuosity of the orchestra. It is in four movements and lasts about 45 minutes. It is based on "1001 nights' which is a compilation of mid-eastern folk tales. Sinbad is probably the most famous one there. I don't know whether the game was inspired by the folk tales themselves or the RK piece, or maybe a bit of both,. One of my favorites...

Ah, so we learned some of your backstory today! The musical piece you're thinking of is the Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov composed symphonic suite _Scheherazade_ from 1888, which was based on One Thousand and One Nights (Scheherazade is the central character, telling these fantastic stories to stave off her impending execution, which is eventually called off.) Oh, and that Kung-Fu Heroes and Little Ninja Brothers, it's similar to what Jaleco's NA division did with the Rushing Beat series. It's all from the Super Chinese series, which ran for 12 mainline entries (five of which were released overseas.)

I didn't know anything about Flying Dragon when I chose it. The box art looked cool and the screenshots made it seem like a game I would enjoy and I did. I've beaten it multiple times and thanks to this video I was today's days old when I learned that Flying Warrior is a sequel so thank you John for that. Will also mention that Flying Dragon was also one of the last Nintendo games I ever got complete in box too. Wish I didn't toss the box back in the day but I did at least keep the instruction manual. Despite probably reading it over 100 times, it's still in pretty good shape too.

One of the things I remember culture brain for is kind of mixing things together that normally didn't go together like the Kung fu heroes and kid ninja with an RPG element of random encounters. And there was turn base fighting in the magic of the name I dare not pronounce cuz I screwed up. That's my fondness for this company what are the reasons why I wanted you to do the video for so long because I think it's showcases some unique NES games. The magic of the really complicated name is one of my favorite NES soundtracks and it always takes me back to being a kid again. Culture Brain was a such a neat company that made a lot of weird, ambitious games, and Magic of Scheherazade - a personal favorite on the system - felt like they finally landed exactly where they wanted to. Baseball Simulator was neat, too; I usually don't have the patience to sit through a whole baseball game, but this was about as close as I'd get. There were actually 2 on the SNES, though the second one never left Japan, so it's under the Super Ultra Baseball name.

I never got to play Little Ninja Brother for the NES, but I did play the SNES game. I definitely loved the concept of this game. Its much easier with 2 players. If you've never played this franchise it is a must!

I got the famicom version of Flying Dragon here in Japan. The dude that sold it to me got all excited and he told me how he loved that game when he was a kid. So I popped it in and dang, I was enamored with it. Really addicting and tough, but good. There's something special about a game that is flawed, but you keep playing it because you forget about the flaws on the merit of its creativity and fun factor.

In the Tom Hanks movie “The Man with One Red Shoe”, the piece of music that the orchestra plays is Rimsky Korsakov’s Scheherazade.

There is one company that made games for NES that I would be shocked to see a video like this of (yes, a regular developer for NES, not a knockoff company). Can you guess who it is? These culture brain videos seem really fun and you pronounce "Sheherazade" the exact same as me. Well done!

Kung fu heroes and Little ninja bros are alike cause their japanese name is super chinese 1 and 2. Also fun fact magic of "charizard" hehe used the same engine but they didn't keep it for super chinese 3. I am surprised you gave it a B cause 2 things know about the ninja boys are hit detection sucked, and worse, the password screen. Oh my (bleeping) was that a nightmare to do. Great video!

8:38 It seems you never heard about One Thousand and One Nights. :p And don't know the lyrics from the Disney Alladin movie: "Well Ali Baba had them forty thieves, Scheherezade had a thousand tales." Scheherazade was the princess who kept telling incomplete stories each night to his husband to avoid death. Aladdin, Sinbad, Ali Baba, etc. are known from those stories. Korsakov composed a symphony about her. That's why you relate her name to some classical music.

Baseball Simulator. Play in space. Lightning strikes the pitcher, which gives him special powers. "Simulator." Someone at Culture Brain didn't get the memo.

Yesss..I remember getting a friend Kung-Fu Heroes from Kaybee as a gift cuz it was the cheapest game there, and I was pretty young. It might’ve been $16.99? Other cheapos i got there as a kid were Friday the 13th and Star Soldier. Desperate times.

I love the Hiryu No Ken series! in fact, there's a translation project for the 2nd hiryu no ken famicom game, as for Flying Warriors, is a fusion between hiryu no ken 2 and 3, apparently.
