Loved this vlog! I’m here to defend Meg though 😂 Meg is one of my favourite characters because her character shows that your dreams can be smaller and humbler and still be valid. All your dreams can just be have your own house with your husband and your children and grow old with them. I think there’s so much beauty in it, and because her sisters have big dreams, her character lets you know that your dreams are valid, even if they are “small” ❤️

Yes! That’s why I love her so much! Her quiet way and intentional living is what draws me to her. I’m not like Amy or jo with these gigantic dreams, not do I have the energy to go after them, because it takes a lot of work. Some of us are content with the mundane ✨☺️

This book is really only 500+ pages not almost 800. It's just a smaller shorter edition, so it's thicker.

i actually kinda had the reverse experience from you in terms of amy and laurie. i read the book first and absolutely despised amy for "taking" laurie from jo. i couldn't believe it. but when i watched greta's adaptation, it made much more sense to me. you see amy's devotion to laurie from the very beginning. and i think what you were saying about aging up the characters worked in amy's favor too. amy is so young when she first meets laurie, but since florence seems older than amy actually is, it makes their relationship much more believable. and i think greta and florence both did a really good job at making amy a more sympathetic character!!

The beach interlude of this video was so beautiful! I don't even like the beach, but I wanted to be there watching the waves crash! It's been a number of years since I read the book, so what I remember might not be very detailed or may be a little off. I feel like one of the reasons Meg's relationship lacks connection is because they were sort of secretly seeing each other. And as much as the book does a good job of getting perspectives of each character I think it still focuses on Jo. So, with Meg's relationship and wanting to get married and start a family not being what Jo is interested in for herself, we don't get to see it as much. At least towards the beginning of their relationship. Honestly, because Meg's character is the most mundane I remember those details the least. I could be typing nonsense and not even know it. I need to give the 2019 adaptation a rewatch. I've only seen it once and that was in theatres. I remember not knowing if I liked the back and forth in time and I saw it with my mom who didn't even pick up it was out of order. She had to ask me what was going on and I tried to help her in seeing the small stylistic differences of the past and present, especially because they used the same actresses and didn't fully show the changes of the time period from what I can remember. My favorite adaptation is the 1994 version. Winona Ryder is one of my favorite actresses, I'm a sucker for accurate period pieces and accurate adaptations (not to say others aren't accurate- this one is just superior in my mind), and I love the coziness of it! It has my heart! I'm pretty sure I've seen all the adaptations except the 2017 miniseries.

I had very similar thoughts on the 2019 movie and the book as you did (i also watched the movie first)! I've also spent a good long time looking up and watching Jo/Laurie Champagne Problems edits on youtube and that song is PERFECT for them!

i find it interesting with your perspective of watching the movie before reading the book. I was the opposite that i read the book before watching the movie. At first, i was a bit put off when i found out the movie had the back and forth plot of past and present, but i did gradually love it and find the color differences enjoying -- like the past being all warm and colorful and the present being a darker tone because of the realities the characters are facing. The comparison of the book and movie didn't really diminish my love for the book though.

One of my hottest opinions is that I really enjoy seeing a movie before reading its book because I get to just enjoy the movie for itself and I don’t compare it to anything else. And then I finally get to pick up the book and feel like the movie is playing in my mind to compare and contrast how they adapted it !

To be fair to that gigantic tome, it wasn't originally published as such. It was two books back in the day. So Louisa May Alcott wasn't totally deranged, writing 700+ page books :P Loved the video and all your effort and hard work really shone

Also, i can understand why you don't like Meg too. She's my least favorite character too. But i do appreciate the kind of character she represents --- like its okay to want the life she wants compared of how Amy and Jo sees their lives. Some women have a career ambition and want to succeed. Some women have an ambition to be a mother and a wife. Some women want both. What i really love about all of them is that they all have different ideologies of life but they still love each other despite their differences. the feels!

Me hearing her thoughts on Meg 👁👄👁 Out of the sisters, she’s the one I look like the most.... I don’t think she’s plain though, I just think she’s the sister we see less of. About Amy, I agree to disagree 😅 her impulsiveness made me so uncomfortable in the first book, and her storyline in the second one just meh. I don’t agree with that pairing. I love Jo, but my favorite is Beth. I understand her in a deeper level

Of course it is too long, it’s two books in one. 😅 Confused me to no end when I read Little Women, the book that is actually only Little Women, and I hadn’t found some of the iconic scenes. For me Little Women in itself is probably no more than a low 4 star read, whereas Good Wives is the one that really impacted me. I don’t think they do the story justice when they publish it as one book 🤔

I recently read Little Women too! Haven’t watched the movie yet but super keen to do that. I did enjoy the book and loved Jo most of all as well but though I understand the 1800s context of this book I was still a bit disappointed by Jo’s ending. The book seemed so progressive at times ( always with Jo and never with Meg haha I agree Meg was super boring and cringe) but then BAM the ending came along where basically gave up writing and just cares about falling in love about having kids and a home. Made me a little sad but that’s just me. How’d u find the ending?

The ending annoyed me as well! We watched Jo have a very set goal in mind, that didn’t include marriage, and to see her suddenly give that up felt very jarring and out of character for me! Also Mr. Bhaer is like twice her age... no thank you!

I’m pretty sure Florence pugh’s Amy still starts out at 12 years old, which definitely sticks out when she is in school and all the girls around her are actual little girls and Florence is just chilling in her braids 😭
