I love the part where The Slob says "It's Slobbin' Time" and made the book sell 2 slobillion copies

I'd love to make a request that you do slightly spoiler heavy summary at some point in the vlog (maybe put time stamps so people can skip). I honestly can't actually endure these extreme horror books but my morbid curiosity does push me to want to know the barest details of the depravity. A lot of your analysis is a little lost on me just for not having as much of the plot.

I like this format and would love spoilers because I’m not reading it! I can’t handle reading extreme horror but do ok with someone telling me about it.

I would love the reaction throughout the read, with deeper analysis during key parts of the book (like, "Okay, this just hit me - we need to talk about this!"), and maybe more at the end.

I read an older novel once called "Slob" by a different author, about an obese serial killer on the loose and an obsessed detective tracking him down. It was really very good. I like cop vs. serial killer stories.

Just found out about this genre of horror literature. It kinda reminds me of Brutal/Slamming Death Metal but in a book format. Will definitely ask my local occult/horror/sci-fi book store about this kind of stuff the next time I stop by.

The in-depth one book reading vlogs are great and would love to see them continue! Especially for books that you suspect will need a deeper dive and more thorough discussion. The multiple book vlogs should continue however because I like how you rank them at the end, it helps me to decide what to put on my TBR.

The end of this book was glorious for me. It's not common that the women who are tortured in extreme horror and splatterpunk books get a revenge plot, and Vera is a STRONG woman. I think the most hard hitting point for me is that Beauregard specifically gets you attached to this couple before he ruins their future. I have read the second book and its mostly about the Son and not Vera but it does show their marriage struggles after everything that's happened. It's written really well and is still good but but The Slob is the better one. I also feel the way he added the other stuff to the story at the end was to leave an opening for future books related to that bit.

Blood Meridian for sure deserves one of these!

Got so excited when i saw this video pop up in my tab, i instantly clicked!! Personally i love more of these one-book vids, the review feels more casual & in depth plus we just get more time to let whatever horrifying information just happened sink in properly instead of instantly jumping into the next one. ^^

Some critics: Some horror books are gross for gross' sake, they are worthless. Same critics: Art should be made for art's sake, otherwise it's propaganda. Even if a books is gross and has no other meaning but to disgust the reader, it should not be seen with contempt but as a worthy pursuit. A work of art only need to want to exist for it to justify its existence. "Why did you write that disgusting novel?" "Because I wanted to".

Love the deep dive format...but also like the 5 in a week. I can't wait to read this. Love extreme horror with a story. I just read 100% Match and I have some questions...I laughed at things I'm sure I wasn't suppose to.

Reactions don’t really tell us anything, and as a literature fan it’s always more interesting to provide to or experience the feedback of others. First - Another great video; per the norm. You have a knack of making even the craziest of books, like this one, approachable. It helps that you are not strictly dismissive about the content. And look beyond the extreme passages. Like you sift through the flotsam and jetsam of gore and viscera and find glint of a real message. Second - Did I miss a video or IG post where you did a new horror gear haul? The first crewneck you wore: "INTROVERTED - But willing to discuss extreme horror." Is just so dope. So kudos on copping such a unique sweatshirt. Lastly - (Not an extreme horror recommendation but still...) Every video I watch of yours I look to the lower left and see all the King novels. Out of all the his books (and I have read them all) my eternal favorite is The Dark Tower collection. I would love to see a video(s) going over the novels in that series. Each entry has a fair share of horror and adventure that only King can do so deftly - IMO. OF COURSE, this is if you have the time.

I'm curious if you might be willing to check out Yellow, it's also by Beauregard. Has a very Straw Dogs and Death Wish premise, about a very meek, wimpy but good intentioned man who's timidity results in him being constantly walked over. After a home invasion he finally snaps and turns into a scary, scary dude on a quest of vengeance. I never see anyone talk about Yellow but i think it's maybe Aron's best. Very gruesome, very bleak.

I think I liked the sequel of this book "Son of the Slob" even more! Some disgusting scenes there as well (and for me personally even more disgusting overall). Highly recommend!

I really enjoyed that book too! It was absolutely gross, but still a good read, I really liked the voice the author gave to Vera, she felt like a complex and real person with fears and dreams and emotions, I really like his wordy writing style, I definitely have to read the Playground one too. To be honest, I didn't see these parallels and cycles while reading, to me it was just a gross story for the sake of telling a gross story, and I like that too. Not everything has to have profound, deeper meaning, sometimes you just wanna write a book about disgusting things. But your review made me think more about it, and yeah, there is something more to this book than I thought. Doesn't change my enjoyment of it, but it does make me think more about its story

If you haven't, you should read "High Life" by Matthew Stokoe. He's the same author as "Cows". A disgusting but actually pretty good book; it's definitely one of my favorites as a fan of fucked up literature.

Was about to start a different book but now I’ve got to read this one lol

Just read this book yesterday. Very quick read, which is a good thing both for content and pacing. I thought it really started out great. The setting and the backstory were good and gave it a creepy feel when you sort of knew what was coming next. From the middle of the book on the story declined. The brutality served no purpose other than to gross you out. Unlike a book like American Psycho, where there is a deeper meaning that follows the entire way through, and the brutality of it helps get the meaning across. This book had that potential but dropped the ball midway through, instead opting to go with an ending that veered in an almost more deranged direction than the initial reason you'd think the slob was killing people. Turns out he's just a hired goon with a tiny d---. This book just feels like so many missed opportunities for something truly great. Also, I'm pretty sure after that ordeal Vera would never have been able to become pregnant again, and if, miraculously, that somehow happened - she'd have known it wasn't the original baby. I have no intention of reading the sequel, but I did like enough parts of the book to consider trying another book by this author.

I want someone to review Mutilation Song by Jason Hrivnak. It’s not extreme horror but it’s different. It left me with a bad sort of feeling it’s hard to put my finger on. It’s very intelligent and fast paced even though there isn’t much of a plot. I never see it reviewed I always see the same books. The author only wrote one other book that I know of and he only publishes in France now but I picked this one up at Barnes and noble a few years ago. I think the best way to describe it is a demonic stream of consciousness.

I'm a bit surprised that you enjoyed this one so much. I felt like the very end moment sort of cheapened the book, making it into a sort of inescapable torment for Vera that she can never overcome. The book has a sequel that basically proves that point. But this is kind of why I rank Playground over The Slob, it doesn't pull that cheap maneuver just to force a response. I think a nice balance of deeper looks and multi reads would work. Not every Extreme Horror Author is Beauregard or Stokoe, after all. Word density, author reputation, and topic all might play a part in that. Maybe you can even get cute with it and theme your multi-reads! School, animals, hospitals, sex work, babies in blenders! The topics are endless!

I liked watching your reactions whaile you were reading and I personally prefer the deeper analysis of the individual books.

I recently read extreme horror novel "Psychic Teenage Bloodbath" by Carl John Lee (foreword by Judith Sonnet) which certainly lives up to it's lurid title but which also includes a sweetly moving sapphic love story! Highly recommended.

Because of this video, i read this book.... And i have to say it made the top of my disturbing books list. I really enjoyed it. I am currently reading "Mother Maggot" from Simon Mchardy.... And its right up there with the slob in the vile sense of explicitly disturbing and graphic.... Also, like the slob it was a very easy read, only about 140 pages. If youre looking to dive deeper into the extreme horror genre i reccomend it.

Is it available with a less graphic cover? Because I’m considering reading it and I don’t need to expose the people around me to that image lol

Bless your heart for putting yourself through these books. There is a term for this type of fiction. It is called Splatterpunk, coined in 1986 by horror scholar David J. Schow (according to Wikipedia). While I am a huge horror nerd, this is my least favorite subgenre.

Haven’t read this, but the title Slob that I’m familiar with is by Rex Miller and it’s sequel Slice. Still pretty hardcore stuff. I’ve heard of Playground, but haven’t read it.

I have been slowly getting into these horror and gorey books and I was considering this one and they say to not judge a book by its cover but I actually hate looking at this books cover its eerie for sure xD however when it comes to people and this book it feels like for most they are either hot or cold about this book they like it or hate it which is crazy.

Personally I love both styles of videos where sometimes you just run through a bunch of interesting new titles I want to check out, and then sometimes something speaks to you to the point where you’re compelled to make a full analysis and I love them both ❤

agree, the ending chapters made it a bizarre conspiracy that seems to have no movement in the second book... Really good video and yes analysis would really add more to the videos, your thoughts make these really good. You should REALLY REALLY directly read Son of the Slob, i think it's actually a greater book... better character material in it. It should have been actually one big book... Vera, vera vera...
